Origin8 Pro Threaded Headset, 1" Steerer

Does the trick for an old JIS standard. Bearings are of good quality, finish is nice. The reviewer who stated a JIS frame cup diameter is 30.2 is confused. A JIS frame cup is indeed 30.0. The difference between JIS and ISO is the fork crown ( JIS=27.0 and ISO=26.4). 30.2 frame cups are found on old Professional Campagnolo, Raleigh, and some older French and Italian bikes. The older French and Italian bikes were the only ones available with the 27.0 fork crown and a 30.2 frame cup. As far as being tall, yup it's very tall for a 1" headset. It's 42.5mm tall. I wanted to replace the original caged bearing headset on the 1993 Cannondale m400 I am restomodding. I had just used their rear break hanger and quill stem adapter on this bike, both of which I was impressed with in performance and fit and finish. I like working on bikes, it very satisfying and relaxing for me. I tell you, this headset replacement went so smooth and the fit was so perfect, I actually was disappointed that it was over so quickly. For the price, I think this component is an excellent value. Looks good, made well and the tolerances were perfect for my bike. A couple notes: pull the bearing cartridges out and add more grease the races, that way they will not fall out or become misaligned during installation. Also, people have commented on their stack height changing. Mine decreased by ~3mm. Sadly, there is no sticker. Booo!

I had ordered a "Velo Orange" headset previous to this one. The Velo Orange headset was just plain crap. It didn't line up and had tons of play that could not be adjusted out. This one, FANTASTIC. It has cartridge bearings and fit the bike very nicely and was a snap to get the play out whilst steering smoothly. WIth just the headset, the bike rides like new!

There arent many sealed bearing 1" threaded headsets around. I hesitated to purchase a head set at this price, but I am glad that I did. The sealed bearings are smooth and the head cups fit tightly into my steering tube. My last set (Neco) went in a little loosely for my taste and kept needing tightening. So far, this Origin 8 headset needs no re-tightening.Thats nice and why I bought this one. Comes with two size crown races for your fork.Just be sure to follow the directions for assembly and get the correct pieces in the right order. Thanks Origin 8! I reccomend this headset.

This is a conventional headset, not cartidge bearings. they come apart and should be greased accordingly. The stack height was to much for the frame it went into. IT was noticably taller the one it replaced and the lock nut would not screw on. I modified the one I purchased to fit. All in all, a quality item.

This worked great for my bianchi advantage. This headset comes with two crown race sizes. I highly recommend if you want to ditch your old bearing race for a new sealed style headset! 5/5!

This headset installed easily. The bearings are nice and smooth plus it looks great. Make sure to measure the inside diameter of the frame head tube to order the headset with the correct cup diameter. Comes with 26.4mm & 27.0mm crown races.

I purchased this headset to refurbish a Schwann Prologue frame-set purchased in the early 1990,s. The fork on that frame had a 27.0mm crown, rather than the more typical 26.4mm. This head-set comes with two crowns. It also had sealed bearings so the aluminum cups are not machined and have no races, you just drop in the bearing cassettes. Good design, good price, works perfectly. My only suggestion would be a more classic look with rounded exterior instead of the rather angular look. But function is paramount :)
