Blending style with practicality, the windproof, sturdy Gravity is tough enough for harsh winter conditions, yet comfortable enough to wear every day. That's why it's our most popular softshell.

This is what the Apex Bionic used to be!
I needed to replace my trusty old North Face Apex Bionic that was pushing 10 years old. The new design has a different cut and material that is weird and feels cheap. I began my search and bought a few different soft shells from OR, Arcteryx, and Patagonia. I ultimately settled on this Marmot Gravity. The cut and figment on the jacket is spot on. I’m not sure why there are complaints about sizing — I think more people need to consult the manufacturer’s website and get the exact measurements. I would describe the cut as “fitted” but not tight. If you are very athletic it might look a tad boxy, but a more average build will find a proper fitment. Sleeve length is a tad long but, to be frank, all of these soft shells are like that. TNF is probably the worst offender. The fabric is a bit tougher and feels more abrasion resistant than some of the competition, but it isn’t scratchy or stiff. I’m always worried about these jackets snagging or tearing during daily use, but this one feels very substantial. The zippers click and pull smoothly, and the Velcro cuffs and beefy and should stand up to repeated adjustment. I’m baffled about why they put the small pocket on the left sleeve when everyone else’s soft shell has it Napoleon-style over the chest. As with most soft shells, the interior is a fine-pile fleece that provides a little bit of insulation. Since it is wind and water resistant, you don’t necessarily need a ton of insulation inside. This does make it a little tricky to take on and off if you wear long sleeve shirts, but again, all soft shells are like this and you’ll get used to it. Overall performance is on-par with the competition here: highly wind and water resistant. This isn’t a rain jacket, but it works just fine for quick periods of rain. It’s not a winter coat, but if you layer it over a sweater you’ll do fine for brief periods outside. I have worn this over a sweatshirt and felt just fine in 30 degree weather for an hour or so. In other words, this jacket is 3-season if you live anywhere that gets snow regularly. For me in Texas, it’s perfect even in the winter. So yes, Marmot has a great multipurpose soft shell jacket here. If you liked the older TNF Apex Bionic, buy one.

Looks good, right warmth level
Got this to replace a similar NF bionic jacket that was a strange fit - too tight in the shoulders but then really loose in the neck and upper chest. This jacket fits just right and looks better. Great at stopping wind and wet. Warm - I frequently wear it in the mid 40's with only a regular shirt underneath and it's comfortable. There is enough room to layer a sweater (not a bulky one) but in colder weather I'm usually going for something heavier. Overall really happy with this purchase.

Excellent jacket. Only two small items to mention- the sleeves do seem to run a bit long. Also, the fleece lining inside tends to stick to things like sweaters when you put it on, so the sleeve of the sweater rides up inside the jacket. Very minor issues though, great jacket overall.

Great all Purpose Soft Shell
For the past 2 weeks I've been on a trip to the Middle East and lived in the Marmot Gravity Jacket. It has exceeded my expectations and looked very good doing. It is January with day time temps from 50 to 70 degrees Farenhiet and nights in the 30s. Throughout, I've comfortably worn this sight seeing, hiking and out to dinner. It has done well in pretty heavy rain.Apperance - Strangers have given me unsolicited compliments and friends have asked me to bring one them the next time I visit.Sizing - I m 5 ft. 11 inches, 170 lbs with and athletic build and the jacket fits very well (not too baggy or restrictive) with room for a fleece underneath. The Gravity is probably not your best choice for distance running or cross country skiing in. But if you want a rugged, well thought out and attractive softshell you should seriously consider the Marmot Gravity. I am very happy with mine.

Da best best best
NorthFace feels like I'm pregnant or wearing a cone, Columbia is more for the ladies. This is it guys, buy it, it's perfect. Im 6ft1 , 180lbs, with extra long arms (for some reason) and this is the best jacket in the world. My brooksbrothers shirts are 15-35 for reference in terms of fit. But I all my friends have tried this on when I bought it, everyone was envying ;)

Decent shell. Not warm, its a shell.
This is a decent shell. I think sizing is correct. I wear a medium for most items. This jacket in medium gives enough room to add under layers.A little baggy in the arms. The arms are a little long but tolerable.Keep in mind this is not a insulated jacket and not warm by any means. I would say anything less than 60 degrees one will be cold with out additional layers.I bought this as a soft shell for snow boarding. With a Columbia heavy or mid weight omni heat base layer one should be comfortable into the low to mid 40's while active and remaining light weight.

Great Jacket Sizing is Weird
Only had this jacket a few days and so far loving it. Great build quality, looks good, and so far has performed well. I cant really comment too much since I only had it a few days but you can see from the other reviews how good of a jacket this is. I mainly wrote this review to help people with the sizing. Im 6' 185 pounds with a fairly athletic build 42" chest and 34" waist. After looking at the sizing chart it seemed like a medium would be skin tight and the large would just be a little loose. I ordered a large and in actuality this thing was huge, just too big everywhere, shoulders, sleeves, waist, and overall length. I ended up returning it (Love Amazon BTW)and getting a medium. For the most part it fits well but is a little snug in the shoulders and chest. Hopefully this helps as a baseline for what size someone would need.

Not as Nice as the Old Marmot Windstopper Jackets
My old Marmot Windstopper jackets seem to be irreplaceable. These new Marmot jackets fit significantly tighter around the waist and arms, and the pocket on the sleeve is less useful than the one on the chest. My Eddie Bauer and Columbia jackets fit much better and closer to my previous Marmot jackets.

Great Jacket
This jacket is great for most weather types, I wear it in the highlands of Scotland for day adventures, in persistent rain it will let some through, but if you're going to be out for an hour or two this jacket is great. I highly recommend it, the only point of caution I'd say is that it doesn't deal with fatty substances like milk very well, I had to wash it several times to remove evidence of my two year old.One of the best things about soft shell jackets for hill walking is that they breath, so on the lower slopes when you're getting hot you don't get wet, which makes the upper part of the mountains more enjoyable, because the cold doesn't creep in as much as it can in a waterproof jacket.I really like mine, get one, you'll like it too

Excellent product
Marmot don't sell their full range in the UK so I bought this from the US. Came really quickly. Its a great, well made waterproof and windproof thin fitted jacket but don't be fooled it's very warm.

Excellent Build Quality; Comments on Fit
I've only had the Gravity jacket for a week, so I can't comment on its longevity. The build quality seems excellent, though, so I assume it will provide the same high level of service as my other Marmot products (Precip pants & jacket, scree pants). Before ordering this jacket, I read a lot of reviews (both here on Amazon and elsewhere) in order to determine which size I should order. There seem to be some conflicting thoughts around regarding the sizing & fit, so I thought I'd add my two bits worth. I ordered a Medium, and it's the perfect size for my needs. I'm 5'9", 180#, wear a 40-42 suit jacket, and the sleeve on my dress shirts is 32"/33". My jeans have a 33" waist. The Medium fits like a glove. There isn't much room for layering underneath, although a thin fleece fits. That makes the fit a little snug, though, so it wouldn't be great for anything that requires a high degree mobility - e.g. climbing, etc. For that, I would have had to step up to a Large. My concern about an L is that the sleeves would be too long for me. I primarily want the jacket for wearing around town in the spring / fall, and on winter days that aren't too cold. Also for travel, along with the Precip jacket (also a Medium). It will also serve me well for snowshoeing. One advantage of the snug fit is that it keeps the wind out.

sehr robuste Wintersoftshelljacke
