Practical Happiness: A Young Man's Guide to a Contented Life Paperback – January 1, 2008

Our young teen boys need to hear these messages from someone other than us. We do add in more scripture as we discuss it. We’ve enjoyed 2 other books by bob schultz. He may seem a little old-fashioned at onset, but you adjust, and it’s good to not have all the flashy ultra-modern work-up on everything. Bob is real, and our teens, who play video games but also read classics, have learned to really appreciate his voice.

I'm theologically picky. I'm writing style picky. I'm reading level picky (when it comes to books for teenagers). I'm parentally picky. And this is a fantastic book. Biblically faithful, easy to read style of writing, interesting anecdotes, solid biblical insights, at an appropriate vocabulary level for young men, and a solid choice for my sons. I bought three copies (one for each of us). Well worth it. Thanks, Bob!

We have used 2 other of Bob Schultz's books & this one hasn't failed to uphold the awesome standard he presents for young men (& even older men) despite his only having daughters this has definitely been his calling to encourage a generation to walk in Godly character! His style is to teach relevant Biblical Truth as he walked them out in His own life! It leaves you with deeper understanding; presents the topic in an engaging & simple way; and encourages you to do what is right in God's eyes!! I home educate & had done a, "class" with my girls for their gender & the circumstances they faced @ their ages--this was easy since there is a multitude to choose from...but when I knew my son needed me to engage him in a more personal way I searched, & found Bob Schultz's books Boyhood & Beyond as well as Created for Work...we started our first, "class," with an appetizer & ice cream @ a local restaurant and read an average of one chapter a week! We spent time discussing what we had read as there are questions at the back of every chapter for just such a thing. Then we'd pray together & before long I saw my little guy turn into a young man of God! Thank You, Jesus & thank you Mr. Schultz! :)

Bob has a way of writing right into a boy's heart. My son has a hard time putting down Bob Shultz' books, which is saying a lot for a fourteen year old and a book of life instruction. I was a little worried that the message in this may overlap with others of Bob's books for boys, but it really didn't repeat. It was just more great instruction and encouragement in righteousness. Adults, too, will find much to ponder and grow by.

This is the third of the four books we have read that Mr. Schultz has written to young men. We love them all...I have read them to my teenage daughter and son. Even though they are written specifically to young men, the wisdom and basic truths in these books can benefit all ages. I appreciate the real life lessons he has shares. We feel like we know the author although we have never even met him....and it's obvious the author had a strong value system and great biblical insight. Just found out he passed away all the way back in '08 and felt like we had lost a friend. Thankful he left these books behind for the rest of us.

I've really appreciated the Godly advice of this author. I read a chapter to my boys every so often and it opens up subjects of interest to the boys which allows them to form their own opinions on each subject. It's littered with practical life lessons that teach Godly insights. The chapters end with questions that help to open up the subject to discussion. It's been a great catalyst in the lives of my boys and their relationship with God.

I highly recommend this book for young men. Ours got worn out as one child after the other picked it up and devoured it(girls included), not to mention the family read aloud times we all enjoyed together. It's a great way to open up conversations about real life issues that we all face or will face and Bob Shultz's stories and perspectives are excellent and right on.

I haven't had a chance to read this book yet. Right now we're reading Made for Work by Bob and it's been great so far! I don't imagine I'll be disappointed with this book either. Mr. Schultz captivates audiences both young and old alike.

This is such a good book. I'm a 30-something mother of five, and I loved it for myself. It is practical and filled with biblical wisdom for everyday life.
