Great for Touching Up Your AR-15
This product does what it advertises, and does it well. I have a Windham Weaponry HBC AR-15 with a flat black anodized finish(like most AR-15s have) that started to get some dings and scratches from use, such as a silver spot on the brass deflector from brass being ejected. I bought Birchwood Casey's "Aluminum Black" product, but it didn't quite work out because it caused a chemical reaction that "kind of" turned the aluminum black, but didn't actually apply a new finish to protect the metal, plus the coloring didn't really take well. This is basically a sharpie marker that applies a fresh coat of flat black finish to gun metal. If you get up close you can tell that it's there, but it blends in pretty well and covers up those nasty silver spots to protect your metal from the elements. I've used it on the brass deflector, the dust cover, and even the flash suppressor with good results. It does take a minute when you first start using it to get the paint to flow. You have to take out some scratch paper and press in on the felt tip 4 or 5 times and then hold it to get the paint to start flowing. Other than that though, I'm very pleased with this product and it has made a worthy addition to my gun cabinet.

Works GREAT! Well Worth it. *Don't push too hard on the tip
This stuff works GREAT! I would have given it 5 stars BUT the tip pushed back into the pen only after using it 1 time. I did use it on 2 AR 15s before it broke and they came out flawless! Couldn't have asked for a better touch up pen. This works just like the wood touch up pens for dressers or wood floors. You fill in the scratch and wipe away the access when it drys. I applied this pen to the AR, let the ink dry, and then wiped the access off with an alcohol wipe. This made it so that only the scratch was filled in. DON'T scrub too hard with the wipe or you will take the ink out of the ding/scratch. I used this on 2 different tones and it worked great for both (used on the ring between the stock and reciever). Keep a scrap piece of cardboard, and envelope or paper near by to get the ink flowing and don't push too hard on the tip or it will fall back into the pen and be unusable. Does what it says. I'm ordering another just to keep on my tool box. I added a pic. I used it to touch up a few places on this side with a lot of emphasis being in the piece that sticks out right behind where the shells eject out of. From 1-2 feet away you can't even tell, and that was only with one coat (pen broke right after).

If you own guns with black finishes you need this paint pen
If your a gun guy or girl you need this , I have a couple new babies I bought over the last couple months, well one I custom built which is a beautiful side charge M4 AR rifle and when ordering and storing all the parts and accessories some things got a couple small nicks or scuffs and other blemishes in the anodized finish on the upper and lower receivers and other parts and accessories.I used an ACOG I've had for a couple years on another rifle to put on the new build so it has some wear and imperfections to the finish too so I ordered this paint pen and once it got here I primed the tip and started on the adjuster caps on the ACOG since they are small and the finish gets chipped and scuffed up and other blemishes to the finish so I started there and it made the caps look like new again so I went and painted the rest of the small chips and it also did a great job so I started on the receivers and same thing it blended nice and filled the little dips from the missing paint chips. So when I finished you couldn't see where I used the paint pen to fix up the finish on the ACOG and the new AR and it looks as new as it should with it only being a couple months old... I also got a new 1911 for my birthday in June, one I've been trying to get my hands on since they were released by Sig Sauer, it's a Sig Nitron 1911 from the custom shop with the Zombie themed limited edition finish and custom Houge Zombie grips. I took it out shooting and used a Blackhawk serpa holster and when I got it home it had a few nicks from casings hitting the ejection port and a couple other very tiny wear marks on the slide where it rides on the lower frame rails so I figured what the heck so I used this pen on the Nitron finish and it's a perfect match and dried real fast to where again I couldn't tell where I repaired the paint on her so now my new AR and my Sig Custom Shop Limited Edition Zombie 1911 looks all nice and new again so I'm pretty impressed with this paint pen.. One thing you'll run into with paint pens even if you make sure the cap is on tight is it drying out and no longer working as it should, and typically you toss them in the garbage when this happens but the instructions tell you how to fix this if it happens to your pen, you simply and easily pull out the tip and soak it in a little paint thinner and your back in business. I hope this doesn't happen but if it does I have paint thinner already so I'll be good to go. I own quite a few firearms and if you use them at all there's going to be nicks and scratches and other damage to your finishes, even with safe queens so it's a good idea to keep one of these in your gun case or cleaning kit for when you clean your guns which is when you notice most problems with your guns finish so I'll keep mine in my cleaning and maintenance kit that way it's always where I need it when I need it. I would definitely recomend this to anyone with firearms that have anodized or other black finishes to keep them looking nice and pretty for a long long time BC

If you have an AR get this product!
This is a great product from Birchwood Casey. I used this pen to touch up the rail on my Stag-15 upper. The paint color is flat black, and it didn't match the finish on my rifle perfectly, but it's close enough. It's better than bare aluminum. This touch up pen is meant for black anodized aluminum, but I also touched up the steel barrel. I noticed that if I buffed out the dried paint on the steel barrel with a cotton cloth the paint finish went from flat to gloss, and it darkened too. It looks good. Buffing didn't have the same effect on the anodized aluminum upper. I highly recommend this product.

It was pretty hard to get the paint to actually flow out ...
It was pretty hard to get the paint to actually flow out into the applicator; I was beginning to think it had hardened up. But eventually it worked, and did a pretty good job at covering up a few tiny dings in the grey-black parked finish of my gun. How it would be on a larger area I don't know - probably OK if the finish was very black, less so if it was more grey-ish. In any event, the gun looked better after I used it than it did before, so that's what counts.

This is garbage.
Biggest piece of junk I've ever bought from amazon. Thank God I was only scammed out of about 7 bucks and shame on you birchwood for ripping people off. When you first activate the tip after shaking by pressing down on it to release paint, a massive blob just comes out soaking everything in tons of dripping paint. I spent 30 minutes cleaning my hands and getting it out of my clothes. I am extremely dissatisfied with this. The tip inevitably gets so wet once the pen is activated that is just puts big black smears or blobs on whatever little part you're trying to touch up. It actually looks better to leave the scratches. The blobs dry like standing blobs or streaks that you can see above the level of your original finish. Much better just using a crappy old sharpie. Oh and I also got this trash on my carpet when it came rushing out the tip like niagra falls. Honestly, this has been such a pain I feel a sharp level of hate towards birchwood casey and will absolutely never put another dime in their criminal pockets.

Touch up for your gun
Really good touch up paint for your flat black gun items. I got it to touch up my Vortex Razor red dot as it's mounted on my Sig P320 X5 and the ejected brass hits the front edge of it. Over time this has chipped some of the finish off of the front edge. I first smoothed the area down with some very fine sand paper then cleaned the prepped area. The product went on smoothly and covered well with a couple of light applications. It has held up pretty well, but I know I will have to reapply over time. The only reason not five star is it has just a little more gloss than the flat finish on the Razor
