Honeywell Home RPLS530A 7 Day Programmable Light Switch, White (Requires 40 W Minimum) , 1 Pack

Originally I purchased the Honeywell Econoswitch RPLS740B 7-Day Solar Time Table Programmable Switch for Lights and Motors , pretty much the same model but the difference is that model is for sockets that have a neutral line. My personal application has two blacks and a bare (one black for hot, one black to the fixtures, and the bare is ground). I hooked up that original one with the neutral to the ground, but heard different things about whether that was safe or not. So, to be safe, I did it correct and ordered this model (530A), for use on areas that don't have a neutral line (typically white wire). The installation is simple if you're careful, and take your time. The only confusing part was the lack of color-coding on the wires for this model, and that this model can also work in a 3-way setting (did not do). For my setting, first you turn of the circuit (always be safe!), disconnect from the previous switch, then you connect the two end wires to the "hot" wire from your house (I had to turn on the circuit and use a multimeter to find which was hot, then turn back off the circuit). Use the little screw caps and screw them together, then you take the middle wire and connect it to the other wire (black in my case) that leads to the fixture, twist them together with the screw cap. Screw the fixture to the wall, turn on the circuit, then adjust the settings. Simple! If that sound complicated, then you should hire an electrician, I don't want someone permenantly hurting or killing themselves to save a few bucks! However, the installation was not difficult, but the wires in your electrical box can vary in colors/settings, so make sure you know what you have before ordering. The only reason I say this was difficult was the other switch had black/blue/white wires, this has all black, and it makes the diagram a little more confusing (but the wires have numbers underneath on this switch). Still, if you label things properly it should go nice and smooth. Setting the device was also rather easy; someone mentioned this was difficult, but quite frankly I think it's about as easy as setting any alarm clock, since there are dedicated hour/min/prog/day buttons, makes it easy to adjust. So far it works great! I have it controlling our exterior lights, that way I don't have to worry about whether we turn on or turn off the lights (which can be a sure signal to criminals when you are and aren't home). The timer switch also functions like a normal toggle switch if you want to manually control the lights, just push on the "cover" button (the part underneat the display) for on/off. All in all so long as this lasts I couldn't be happier!

I originally wanted something Alexa compatible but nothing was available and/or was too expensive given my situation. That being I have no neutral wire to the two outdoor lights I wanted to have then off/on on their own. That being said, if you can get over the Alexa part, this is your best bet. These work great and install was easy enough. As for the wiring, I highly recommend reading the top review. He broke it down quite well and simple. Programming is simple enough. But I do have one complaint. From what I can tell you can’t switch between different programs…. What I mean is that I currently have 2 programs set up. When I go into AUTO mode it just defaults to program 2. I have no idea to switch it to program 1. Or if you can I have yet to find it in the manual. I really just wanted to not have to change it with daylight savings when sunset changes. That’s my only complaint. Great product so far.

I bought three of these timers to control the outside lights at my home that are controlled by separate switches. The only complaint I have is that I should have bought these sooner. I was constantly forgetting to turn them off wasting electricity, or not using them all because it was too much of a pain to turn them all on and off each day/night. Now my home is lit every night when I or my wife get home from work and they turn off in the morning. The price was well worth it for the peace of mind alone, let alone the convenience. The timers themselves work really well and I am really happy with the provided functionality and ease of use. I installed these myself, and it honestly only took about 15 minutes per light switch. I am a pretty handy guy, and have some electrical knowledge, but I think most people could probably install these themselves. Always be careful when working with electricity and turn off the breaker. Reviews here were very helpful as well in regards to install. These times do not require a neutral wire which is why I decided on this particular model. The wiring for the switches I was replacing did not have a neutral in the circuit - I recommend checking your existing wiring before purchasing - there is another model made by Honeywell that uses a neutral (aka common) that will work if you have that setup. The timers use parasitic power to power themselves so there are no batteries to replace which was a must for me. Make sure to read the instructions thoroughly. It is noted that when changing a light bulb controlled by these timers that you switch the timer to the off position (open the flap and slide little switch to off) to avoid damage to the timer. I have flipped the breakers multiple times since install and all three timers kept their programs so I am confident that they will do fine in a power outage as well. Programming was really simple and this timer has many options for flexible lighting schedules. I highly recommend these timers and plan to purchase another one to control lights at the end of my driveway as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help.

I needed to replace a programmable timer in an unheated garage for two outdoor lamps. The old one (different manufacturer) worked for years (using CFLs) but recently started to flash the lights on and off at random times. It began doing this with increasing frequency causing both CFLs to burn out. I ordered this new unit a few weeks back, but only recently installed it in the garage. Since the other CLFs burned out, I decided to replace them with outdoor LED floodlights (2 bulbs @ 8 watts each). I was concerned that this would not meet the minimum load requirements of 40 watts as stated in the instructions, but I went ahead anyway. Works just fine, as far as I can tell, for over a week now. For the features it offers, I cannot find any problems. The only thing I wish it did (which the old unit had) is the ability to program a location that allows the timer to automatically adjust its on and off times according to sunset and sunrise times. This unit does not have that feature, but it is easy to change the program times. I would have given this unit 5 stars, but installation was not easy because of 1) the space the unit takes in the electrical box which was already filled with wires for the two outdoor lamps and wires to an adjacent switch for indoor lamps, and 2) the width of the mounting brackets did not fit under the electrical box cover. To resolve 1) I had to get a raised cover, which was not an appearance issue for a garage. To resolve 2) I had to trim off the excess metal from the brackets so that the cover would fit over the unit's mounting brackets. February 26, 2013 ***** Honeywell does make a timer that works with sunset and sunrise times that I would have considered, but did not know it was available at the time. This Little 120V Electrical Timer Switch IS AWESOME!!! I didn't know they existed otherwise I would have installed one over 20 years ago!! in my garage for my exterior lights. I have no real electrician skills to speak of, Electrical projects scare me!! Anyways this project went pretty damn smooth to install. I had spent many hours online searching for a electric timer switch that could be installed in a light switch box that only contained 2 wires! Then I found this one, I still wasn't totally sure if it would still install correctly until I tried to do so.....AND IT WORKED!!! The switch has 3 wires. You have to connect wires (2) & (c) to the main 120V wire, then connect the third wire to your load (lights or electric motor etc.) And that's it! You turn on the power and the led screen starts to flash and you just program the timer schedule to your liking for up to 7 days. This switch is EZ to Program!!! And if you want to turn on your lights manually you just gently push the closed button door on switch once, bam! Lights go on. Press gently the switch door again, Bam! Lights go off! ITS THAT EZ!!! If you have only 2 wires in your box and you want kick ass electrical timer for it, THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT! Just Buy It!!! You wont be disappointed!!! Hope this Helped You! I installed two of these switches and they have been great so far for the month they have been installed. ** Although it is mentioned in the instructions (and may have been mentioned in other reviews here), the display will NOT WORK AT ALL if the bulb is burned out. I noticed this morning that the display was out on one of the switches and only after re-installing the original (i.e. typical) light switch did I realize that the bulb must be burned out. After replacing the bulb I decided to try the timer switch again and it worked fine. Again, the instructions do mention this as a troubleshooting tip but this simply didn't cross my mind. Don't be a doofus like me! :) LED Bulbs: ---------------- As mentioned in other reviews, some LED bulbs will *NOT* work with this switch. Instead they just flash slowly when turned off. I've tried a few LED bulbs in it and the bulbs below worked okay. I can add more to the list if anyone has others. Amazon link included if available. Note that single LED bulbs are likely not going to meet the timer's 'minimum' wattage requirement but it doesn't seem to affect anything. Bought this timer switch to control my porch lights and installed it myself. Worked fine for 6 weeks, then lights started turning on at random times, or even quickly flashing on and off. Went through all the resetting and reprogramming steps to no avail. Called warranty service ("Honeywell Home - Residio") and after they (via a videolink) confirmed that something wasn't working properly, they told me I needed to check and verify the voltage and amperage to the circuit and that there were no leaks (as well as wattage of bulbs) before they could send a replacement switch, i.e., they need to know the fault is with the switch rather than the circuit. I told them that hiring an electrician to come do those tests would cost me at least 5 times what I paid for the timer and would be irrational; instead, they should send me a switch that they know is working perfectly and that if I still have the problem, we'd know it's the circuit. They refused -- "that's our policy, it's in your manual" -- which it isn't. So I have to say: good product if it works, but if it doesn't, you have no recourse unless you're an electrician or willing to pay one for a home visit. Honeywell is a trusted name but I will not buy Honeywell Home by Residio again.

So with petty theft and break ins becoming more and more common I started leaning my porch lights on at night. I already have ADT but wanted to do a bit more. Problem with turning the lights on a was forgetting to turn them off. Not a big deal you might say but living here in California the price of electricity (as gas) is rather excessive. So before I bought this Honeywell switch a dried a dusk to dawn bulb but because of the porch overhang the light was coming on much earlier than I wanted. Then I thought I’d look for a switch with a timer that wasn’t a “smart switch” and I found the Honeywell. Installation was super simple (can install with just two wires) and programming was also pretty easy. In about 15 minutes I had power, manual control of my lights as well as automatic on/off, JUST WHAT I WANTED!

Replacement timers like the ones we had for many years, they are the best. Very happy with Honeywell, glad we could Get them at Amazon, fast delivery and very good service as usual.

El switch es de estado sólido por lo que si el foco es ahorrador, éste de prende intermitententemente, acortando su vida. El manual no es claro en su instalación. No viene con su tapa para la pared.

I was a little hesitant to buy this- there was debate in the comments about wires 1, 3, and a C with no clear instructions, whether it would or not work with LED bulbs, hard to program. Pshhhht! This was a breeze to install- C and 2 to the hot, 1 to the load, no neutral. It works. Replaced the filament bulbs (3) with LED bulbs, it works fine, no flickering. Programming was easy, I set on/off each day the same so cycle through the days until all days light up, done! the best part? The cover is also an on-off switch! Push once for on, push again for an override off! Without it changing the program. Only small complaint, it is hard to see the screen, no backlight that I see, so I used a small flashlight to see it. Other than that, this is perfect! Now my outdoor lights are on timer where it was previously a square switch indoors. Would buy again!

Increasing from 3 to 4 stars as it has been working great since I installed it. Reason I didn't give it 5 stars are the flimsy wires and poor instructions. However if you have a single pole switch read further for instructions in how to install it. I'm using it to control my Christmas lights outside, which includes the lights around the eavesdrops and 5 Christmas light nets on top of the bushes. It also controls the indoor lights in our Christmas tree and Christmas village on top of the piano. All using LED lights. No issues thus far. I like that it comes with a default 24 hours clock - am/pm is more succestible to errors in my opinion - but you can switch to this mode if you want. You can add 7 programs to it, but I'm just using one for all the days of the week from 17:00hs (on) to 02:00hs (off). I found the wires to be very flimsy and the instructions very basic. Mind you my timer came with 3 wires - all black - labelled 1, 2 and C and no neutral wire. The instructions weren't very clear and the diagram was only slightly better. So I took a chance connecting them and took a step back as I powered the electric panel switch. Because I've my Christmas lights on a single pole switch I connected wires 2 and C to the line (aka hot or main wire) and wire 1 to the load and it worked just fine. So for the folks that are not familiar: The line (aka hot or main wire) is the one carrying the electric current. To find out which wire is the line use a "voltage detector tester" before you switch off the control panel. If it goes off you found it. You can get one of this tester for $20.00 right here on Amazon and if you have a home, you definetily should have one.

Don’t need to be brain surgeon. Really easy to install. ❤️
