Raising happy, compassionate, and responsible children requires both love and limits. In Mindful Discipline , internationally recognized mindfulness expert Shauna Shapiro and pediatrician Chris White weave together ancient wisdom and modern science to provide new perspectives on parenting and discipline. Grounded in mindfulness and neuroscience, this pioneering book redefines discipline and outlines the five essential elements necessary for children to thrive: unconditional love, space for children to be themselves , mentorship, healthy boundaries, and mis-takes that create learning and growth opportunities. In this book, you will also discover parenting practices such as setting limits with love, working with difficult emotions, and forgiveness and compassion meditations that place discipline within a context of mindfulness. This relationship-centered approach will restore your confidence as a parent and support your children in developing emotional intelligence, self-discipline, and resilienceโqualities they need for living an authentic and meaningful life. Review: Excellent Read and Very Helpful - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. This is the 20th parenting book I have read in the last two years. Yes, 20th. I have a strong willed little boy who leaves me feeling completely in over my head some days. The previous books I read all contradicted each other and left me more confused. This book is straight forward and exactly what I needed. It has been three weeks since we have had a tantrum (from both my 3 year old and myself) and I feel confident in my parenting and his "discipline." I was going against my natural instincts trying to parent without hurting my child's feelings and giving him too much authority over his life. I have set healthy boundaries and remained firm, but loving and he is responding very well. We are all happier thanks to this book. Review: Glad to have this for raising grandchildren! Needed it years ago! - I love the common-sense, easy-to-read, down-to-earth examples of how to use mindfulness and sensible, balanced discipline to guide children rather than fighting for control. The authors understand that in some moments there is no time for discussion, but in many situations there is. They explain why excessive discipline and overly lacking/lazy discipline do not help children develop autonomous emotional self-control and regulation, while studies show that moderate, regular, supportive, healthy discipline helps children develop best into mentally healthier young adults.

Excellent book on parenting with mindfullness - worth trying also on "special" or "troubled" kids
I am a big fan of mindfullness and present moment awareness. I have been practicing meditation for about 3 years and personally had numerous benefits from it. Being the father of an anxious, obsessive and insecurely attached boy (now almost 9 yrs old) I had and still having so many problems regulating and making him grow into emotionally intelligent, resilient and self regulating boy (yet so far away from it)..I bought a second copy for his mother. I feel I am already benefiting from it, hope the same for his mother! Read it and try the mindfullness practices!

Nice book!
Really nice book. For those out there who already have some experience with mindfulness, this book is a must read. It reinforces a lot of concepts and also helps you apply those principles to your children. This was one of those life changing books for sure. If you have no experience in mindfulness, this book makes it simple to employ and use in our everyday life.

Every Parent Should Read Mindful Discipline!!
A thoughtful and inspiring book designed to help parents respond calmly and thoughtfully to behavior challenges, and provide the love, guidance, and appropriate boundaries children need. The authors show us how a mindful awareness practice, along with the essential elements of Mindful Discipline, can lead to self growth, deeper connection with our children, and a greater understanding of children's underlying needs. I highly recommend this book!

Insightful
Haven't finished it but am enjoying every page. It's helped me focus on the big issue myself and learning to calm myself before reacting. Can't wait to read the whole thing.

Not very practical read!
This book could give me theoretical aspects of mindful discipline, but not much actual /hands-on tips and examples. I wanted it to be more like Parenting with love and logic by Foster Cline and Jim Fay because it had a lot of good examples to follow. However, this book suggests a way to fix one behavioral problem and stops there. So many times, things do not go that smoothly (IF so, why would I order this book?!). So I wanted to see something like... "Okay, if this doesn't work..." and suggest a plan B at least. I read this book in the midst of busy schedule, and I regretted reading it with sleepy and weary eyes and buying it with my own money. Waste of time and energy!
