Earth from Above, Third Edition

In Prague last summer there was an outdoor exhibit of a few dozen of the images from this book. I think they were about 4-5 feet wide. I wasn't aware of the work of Arthus-Bertrand before. I returned twice more to look at them. The massive book was on sale but for about 100 euros. The price plus the weight deterred me from buying it. So when I saw it on amazon recently for less than half of that price, it was a no-brainer. The production quality of the images is high. The fold out caption pages are very useful. The essays are generally "non-preachy" and quite-informative. My one complaint, which I think is echoed in another review here or elsewhere on the Web, is that two many of the images in the book are marred because they must be printed on two facing pages with the ususal problems this introduces. Admittedly, having all of the images as fold outs would probably have been too expensive and difficult. Printing them one only one page would not have done the details in the images justice, particular after seeing the big blow ups last summer.

I have bought three copies of this book, one for me, and two for gifts. It is full of wonderful images. I was introduced to it by an artist who used the images as inspiration for some of his work. I know that another copy was bought by a friend who'd seen it while visiting.

If you had the pleasure of seeing the exhibit with larger-than- life reprints of these spectacular images, you'll want the book as a reminder. If you never got to see the exhibit, the book is the next best thing. The text also leaves the reader with food for thought as to whether it will be possible to see some of the same images in another decade if we don't take care of our planet. Worth its weight in gold on your bookcase or coffee table.

Perfect as a gift for a loved one, or anyone who could use a new perspective of the world. Earth From Above contains images from all over the world of people, places and things from a bird's eye view. It is a gorgeous book and was quite well received by the "giftee".

Nice pictures, good quality paper. Beware this book is big and HEAVY! Gave it as a gift to my grandmother, at 85 years old she could barely lift it.

Exceptional book...one conclusion consume less, reduce your impact. Not recommended for kids ... too heavy. Just kidding i've already gave it to my 4 years old little son. Special thanks for the packing and the excellent condition of the book.

Absolutely gorgeous, but they needed a little more thought put into the process. Many of the pictures have the primary interest in the center. When they made several of the pictures two pages wide they essentially obliterated the picture with the fold in the book. VERY frustrating. All of his photos are spectacular and worth the money though. Too bad they didn't plan it better.

I purchased for the photos. Pictures are fabulous, intriguing. Buy the large book. Pictures don't have nearly the same impact in the smaller version.

Great book and would recommend to anyone.I already had a copy but bought this as a present for the in-laws and condition wasn't as good as I hoped but could have been a lot worse, gave my (mint) copy to the in-laws as a present and kept this for myself.

Amazing aerial photos - a beautiful book that makes a great present for anyone interested in photography.
