Good engineering-level revies

This is a great way for an engineer new to photonics to get a grip on the basics. The book describes all of the significant optical properties of materials that are used in photonics, and how practical photonic devices like lasers and modulators are constructed. It has a lot of math, but it's worth studying even if you (like me) are not the world's greatest math expert.
