Very good lights
Easy to fit and adjust the handle bar mounting. Easy to fit and remove the light from the mounting. Not sure if this review is for the 400 or 500 lumen. 400 is plenty good enough for general commuting. We have a few and they’re used quite a lot. Bright enough for night time unlit tracks (we do not do fast downhill MTB type stuff!). Use flashing all the time during the day if on roads. At night use hyper flash on lit roads. At night use steady on for unlit roads. Battery may not last quite as long as advertised but pretty good. We take a spare with us for any lengthy nighttime trips just in case. Easy and quick to charge.

Cateye ampp 400
This cateye bike light is amazing so strong & super bright especially considering we are now approaching autumn so shorter days, it has four settings a real bright beam a more subtle bram, fast flashing beam & a more slow flashing beam This product is reasonably priced for what it can do it's so easy to mount it's been through some pretty bad rain so it is most definitely waterproof & durable

Versatile. Compact. Useful as a torch, too. Shame about the power button
Excellent AMPP400 cyclist front lamp with bracket. Very bright, & adequate for purposes of catcing other road users attention & illuminating the way. Light penetrates dark roads with broad enough beam, including road signs & the ubiquitous pot holes or drain covers in the wet. Have used this as a torch in the home as a focus beam while searching around darkened corners & cupboards, too (v.bright, illuminating, & v.useful). Number of light settings including flashing modes, which perserves battery life. Judged battery life adequate for at least a daily 2 hour commute on full power mode (probably more), good for survival on those dark winter nights. Holds its charge well, so far. ONLY FAULT noticed is the waterproof power button. Similar, but larger version of, the rubberised buttons on a TV remote, which i assume activates a printed circuit board below. After one years use I found the power button became faulty. It wouldn't always work of power up. Pressing the button would not always activate the unit, or access to the various light settings with mutiple-presses i.e low light, flashing light, high light, flashing + constant light. However the unit will still eventually work with repeated attempts, & is bright & useful as ever. It's the standing around at the bike shed, pressing the thing until it works, & feeling a bit silly, which is the odd experience. Hopefully the manufacturer can sort the button, if they pick up the feedback. My guess, the rubberised button is to aid water proofing but needs a little finessing to make it perfect. Other wise, highly recommended lamp.

Quality
Good, bright more than enough, not flimsy, sturdy but flexible plastic.

Severely overpriced
Very overpriced. Old usb-c port so not compatible with most chargers. Battery life is very short, I have to charge it every couple of days which I never had to do before with bike lights. Also light is very weak unfortunately. I was expecting to get a premium bike light for that price but the actual product is underwhelming. Do not recommend

Bright enough for most purposes ...
I've had a number of CatEye branded bike lights before all of which have been nicely made and have been pretty bright in use - although none of them quoted their 'lumens' brightness (which suggests it's not their selling point), but for general use and for commuting I'd say they served this purpose pretty well. However, after having a few near misses cycling at night on ordinary residential roads where motorists haven't seen me and have almost come at me from the side at T-junctions, I figured it might be a good investment to buy a more powerful light and this relatively modest 400 Ampp light on first use I feel is quite impressive. This light is very bright at its 400 lumens setting (and could easily dazzle and irritate many motorists if not tilted down towards the road slightly), but it can also be set to a more moderate (but still bright) 200 lumens setting which I'd say is perfectly bright enough for most urban riding and commuting in street-lit areas. The CatEye 400 Ampp is easy to mount on handlebars and has an easily-operated switch placed sensibly on the top of the unit (so you can switch it on or off or change modes even when you're in the saddle), and it has a good quality feel about it which I'd say comes partly from the aluminium from which the body of the lamp is made. In my opinion, I don't think many cyclists riding in-and-around town would in reality ever need a much more powerful light than this 400 ampp (such as the CatEye 800 ampp or 1100 ampp), unless they expect to be riding in the pitch-black-of-night down country lanes a lot, or are hell-bent on dazzling motorists.
