Mildly Functional
First, let me start off by saying that I have a difficult time finding ear plugs or ear buds that fit and/or are comfortable. Earbuds tend to fall out of my ears simply by me chewing or turning my head. Also, my eardrums are very sensitive to pressure, so any type of earplug can be quite painful.Recently one of my eardrums has been perforated. The doctors and I are not quite sure why, but the hole is small enough that we are holding off on surgery. In the meantime, I need to keep my ear dry to stop recurrent ear infections. This is problematic for me because I swim twice a week as part of my workout routine.Anyhow, I knew that finding the right earplug would be challenging. I read several reviews which were mildly helpful. The doctor also recommended a brand that had been systematically researched. I ended up buying three different brands of earplugs and two different ear bands. Below are my experiences with each one. I am posting the same review with different ratings for all of these in hopes that I might help someone avoid so much trial and error. However, I suspect that there is not one right answer to the earplug dilemma.Purchase 1 (before doctor recommended Mack’s):TYR Silicone Molded Ear Plugs (2 stars):These get one star for comfort. However, I think they were only comfortable because they weren’t really sticking in my ear. I attempted to adjust them several times. These get the second star because they did keep water from gushing into my ear. However, they did not keep water out of my ear. I also wore the Ear Band-It along with them, so that might have saved me from swimmer’s ear.Ear Band-It Ultra Swimming Headband (2 stars):This fits my medium adult-size head perfectly. It is comfortable, and my goggles fit well over it. However, it does not keep water out of my ears. It does keep the earplugs in, and it keeps water from gushing into my ears. It does stay on, but when I swim a little faster, I feel more water going into my ears. I do not do flip turns because of my eardrum sensitivity to pressure, so I’m not sure how this band would hold up to flip turns or really fast swimmers.Purchase 2 (needed something quicker than Amazon could deliver Mack’s):Walgreens Brand Swimming Ear Plugs (3 stars):These were very painful to insert into my ear with the intact eardrum. I screamed and cursed a little in the locker room. I did figure out how to get the earplugs into both of my ears without excruciating pain, and they did keep most of the water out. My ears hurt after my 35-minute swim was over though. With the Ear Band-It, they worked well enough to keep most water out. I could continue to use this method if necessary. It beats not swimming or swimmer’s ear.Purchase 3 (finally gave in and could wait for shipping):Mack’s AquaBlock Earplugs (3 stars):These were the earplugs that were recommended by my doctor. Apparently, a systematic study was conducted which showed these earplugs to be effective. I have not read the study. These earplugs were very comfortable. However, they were really difficult to get situated in my ears. I had to readjust them about four or five times before I got them in the right spot to keep water from seeping into my ears. This was annoying as I had to interrupt my laps. Once I figured out how to get them inserted well enough, and how to put the Ear Band-It on without moving them out of position, they stuck, and the tips were dry when I took them out of my ears. If they continue to be an inconvenience, I will be visiting my doctor for custom ear molds.Mack’s Ear Band Swimming Headband (2 stars)This is made for children, and there was nothing in the description stating so. It doesn’t seem like it comes in larger sizes. It fits around my head, but it will not cover my ears. I am going to hold on to it for a back up as it will keep earplugs from falling out.

Wow! Amazing Earplugs and Worked Perfectly!
Bought these for a trip to the Caribbean where I knew I’d be snorkeling and doing a lot of water sports and activities.Last year I didn’t have any ear plugs and ended up getting so much water in my ears it took 3 days of being completely deaf that I decided I needed to get something to keep that from happening. These worked great! Even in rougher seas with the water splashing over your head, they kept a seal. No water in my ears at all! I’ll be recommending and purchasing more!

These work and great value for surfing, maybe not comp swimmimg!
Having Surfer’s ear from a lifetime of water exposure and having tried all the expensive “surf plugs” with little cords etc. The cords help them get yanked out. Argh! Tried the wax ones too, never sealed, wax and sand, not a good mix=nuisance. Added these on and love that they don’t cut out sound too badly so I can still converse in the water and wallah, no more ear infections. I never lose them in the water only getting them back to the little case. Drop some on both my son’s and friends as a preventative measure, love the price. Don’t spend $16-18 at the surf shop, try these.

Perfect. Exactly what I needed.
As I have gotten older, I find that water in my ears makes me crazy. It doesn't drain out like it used to. I am in the middle of a mid life exercise crisis and I want to add swimming to the mix but swimming freestyle constantly fills my ears with water. I find the silicone gels just don't stay in my ears so I was looking for something more substantial. These do the trick. Swam 18 lengths today. No water. One stop for an adjustment. They float and allow sound to come in well so you don't need to remove them to have a conversation. Highly recommend these.

Looks impressive, but hard to align and doesn't seal all that well under all conditions.
Now I've gone out and bought three sets of earplugs to try the different styles. This particular one looked really great. I figured the curved section could help seal out water, but I was wrong, the surrounds will flap over, and funnel water in your ear if you are doing anything aggressive, like an fast freestyle, feet first jump, or low dive.Putting them in is also inconvenient, the left and right plugs are counterintuitively reversed in the case, and you have to get them perfectly clocked/positioned into your ear, or else they won't seal. I found standard straight plugs worked better.

Complex insertion : useful to have a second person to help
Maybe it'll get better over time or maybe I'm just fumble fingered, but seating these in the ear channel is a time-consuming and tricky manoeuvre (for me). All ears are different, tho. My suggestion would be to have them different colors for easy identification : left or right ear. The little etched L and R are too small to see. Maybe time will make it clear and if so, I'll get back and edit this.

They just work perfectly
My first pair of ear plugs for swimming were bought at my local sports store (Adidas I think), one of which fell out of the ear during my very first length. I never found it. The other didn't block my ear. When buying these, I read all the reviews I could find on Amazon and I must say, for me they work perfectly. Although it's always tempting to jam them strongly inside the ear canal, you really don't need to. Just slot them in, push very gently, and the small sucking action causes the silicone to completely seal the canal. The effect is that your ear canal stays dry, but crucially you are not cut off from all sound. It is just reduced slightly, so you do not feel like you're swimming in a vacuum (which, suffering from tinnitus, was my worry).Highly recommended. My mom often gets 'swimmer's ear' and I've already mailed her a pair!

Excelentes

but they have been pretty successful in keeping the water out of her ears
I ordered them for my daughter for her syncro swimming training sessions (frequent ear infections). They are not perfectly matching her ear shape, but they have been pretty successful in keeping the water out of her ears. She even used them in the sea while the sea was agitated. She loves jumping into big waves. The plugs stayed in place, only one time she mentioned that she feels some water in one ear.I am giving 4* since it is not perfect for her ears, and she was worried not to lose them in water (which did not happen)The plugs are easy to mount by pulling a little bit the ear's lobe and inserting it, without big difficulty. They DO let the sound pass, so we are pretty happy with them.

Buenos

God sent
I swim once a week. I don't suffer a lot for it but I rather not spend time getting water out of my ear canals. This fit perfectly well over my ear canals and yet they are built in such a way I can hear when talked to. The stalk is hollow but has a membrane, thin, that allows for this. The case is nice and study. I love them.

They work great and I have small and hard ears to fit
I use these for swimming as I have sensitivity to water in my ears. They are comfy and work well. They do work their way out slowly sometimes, but I have very small ear canals and funny ears to fit (regular ear buds don't have a hope to stay in). But these have the wing. They don't really cancel noise, but I don't think they are supposed to. I think they are meant to let sound in and keep water out. So for the price and the fact that I haven't swam at the pool in ages because of ear infections, these have brought back my love if swimming. So I really like them and for the price I am really happy

Excelente relacion costo beneficio

Great value
Used them for 2 weeks in Hawaii for surfing, boogie boarding and swimming in the ocean. I didn't lose them, nor did I have to replace them constantly while I was in the water. When I removed them, I had a few drops of water, which I find acceptable since I wasn't bathing in a calm lake.

Just what i wanted
I have a minor case of surfer's ear and had some great earplugs in the UK which helped me out - had been looking for some time to find some comparable ones in Canada - these are the guys. Watertight, comfortable fit, and easy to carry around in their case. FYI - these are not supposed to be noise cancelling - if anything the opposite (they conduct sound reasonably well), which permits a chat with them still in place (albeit speaking a bit louder than usual).

Me encantaron
