Maple Landmark Basic Checker Set - Made in USA

My granddaughter is just learning to play checkers, so for Christmas I bought a very cheap set. Although it had a piece missing, we kept it anyway. She liked the game so well, I thought she deserved a better set. This set, made in the US, is better than I expected. The board and the checkers have such a nice feel because they have been sanded and finished so well. And, all the checkers were intact.

Very good product; solid construction and durable. The checkers have a nice old-world style "chunky" feel to them and have a crown symbol on one side. The board is generously-sized which leads to a very enjoyable gaming experience.

Very nice quality. It will last for years. I'm very happy with this purchase. I have fond memories of playing checkers at my grandparents home. I want my grandkids to have the same memories. This board is definitely a step up from the one of my youth.

Better than some higher priced sets. Got this for my son and his wife, they said it was real nice quality and very nice for the price !!! I liked that it was made in the USA !!!

This is a great product, made in the U.S.A. Squares are screen printed on; pieces are basically lathed wood. It might be a bit nicer if the board could fold in half (it's a pretty substantial piece of finished plywood and a touch difficult to store). But the real fun here is the fact that the one we bought was apparently shrink-wrapped before the paint finished outgassing. At the outset of the first game, this was annoying, but eventually the smell brought back memories of making model airplanes when I was ten. Later in the game, the effects of paint fumes got the better of me, and a few minutes later, I figured that out 4 year old son was cheating, having pulled some chess-like moves using the pieces, having given himself 4 kings, and having outright reached across the board to capture some of my men. Unfortunately, I bet him a car when he turned 16 and now I am really up the creek, hence 4 stars.

I love that this is made in the USA. I got for my daughter as a Christmas present and she loved it. High quality and should last a long time.

It looks okay and is sturdy wood, but the checkers came with a very strong odor of paint (?) that diminished a bit but remains and is still unpleasant. I kept them loose in my utility room for two weeks before daring to take the set to my mother's nursing home room to use. The checkers were also so thoroughly stuck together in their plastic package that I had to pry them all apart with a paring knife. And, finally, because the checkers are smooth disks, the king pairs don't stay together as they are moved. I may yet return this set.
