Updated - 2018. Premises cabling has evolved from being all "Cat 5" for enterprise LANs to copper, fiber and wireless networks to support LANs, data centers, security and building management systems - practically anything that communicates in a building or campus environment. This book covers all those applications and communications media and shows how they are used together in a modern premises application. The book defines premises cabling and the jargon it uses and the networks they support. Each medium, copper, fiber and wireless, are covered in separate sections as technologies, with detailed descriptions of the components, installation processes and test requirements. A chapter on cabling system design provides direction for those who must design the installation following industry standards and codes. A final chapter focuses on overall installation practices with a focus on safety. This book is an excellent guide for the end user of premises cabling networks as well as the contractor or installer. For training, it is backed by a complete curriculum available from the FOA for teaching classes for the CPCT Certification. Review: Great study guide - The latest edition is well written and easy to study. I would recommend to anyone trying to obtain their FOA CPCT certification. Review: Correction from my last review - I went to FOA website and it took me back to this page. FOA should change that typo preface. Hopefully it's the updated version very important when it comes to testing.

Decently detailed.
It's certainly not a book I would pick up just to read for fun, but as a textbook it serves its purpose well. It's detailed and covers the important topics, without giving too much information. Do you really need anything else?

All B&W? Really ?
This book couldn't be published with color for the diagrams ? Seems integral to understanding cables, the rules and the pin out.

Premises Cabling
There is lot of information about copper system then fiber. There are no answer to review questions so no way to confirm if you answered the questions correctly. Most of the information is exactly same as "Foa Reference Guide to Fiber Optics" . Also most of the material repeats over and over and seem like it was to fill up the book. It would help if the pictures were in color and labeled so you can understand more clearly what the writer is explaining to the reader.
