Unbelievable Quality/Durability
I have using this leash daily for four years. My hound is a 95 pound, extremely strong, male German Shepherd. When he sees a rabbit or other critter he takes off and sometimes nearly dislocates my shoulder, if I am not paying attention. We took him on a 6 week adventure from San Diego to Alaska, during which the leash was put to an extreme test. No issues. I’ve owned big GSDs for 30 years and have gone through countless leashes, some lasting only weeks. I attached a steel cable to prevent him from biting through the leash. A few days ago he took off in a flash. The cable’s metal clip broke. The leash was undamaged - that’s say a lot! Bottom line is that even if you have an enormously strong dog, this leash is up to the task. It still works as brand new. I RARELY leave reviews, but am doing so because this leash is indestructible. If it ever breaks I would buy another one instantly, even if it was far more expensive. Love that German quality!!

Affordability, quality and some extra safety for good measure
I purchased the small leash two years ago and it has held up exceedingly well during normal usage, being tossed around the house, and during several moves. It has also stayed pretty clean and remained bright (important to note as the neon is technically an added safety feature) under this normal usage (I haven't dropped it in any muddy puddles though). In addition to being an all around solidly built leash, as mentioned above there are several safety features with this leash. It is not just neon and thus higher visibility at nighttime, but it is also a ribbon (or belt) style retractible leash as compared to a cord-style leash. This might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but a cord style retractible leash can cause painful rope burns and even cuts to your legs should your pet suddenly decide to take off and the quickly extending leash makes contact with your skin. This actually happened to my mother with her large dog several years ago and it took quite a while for the cut/burns to the back of your calves to fully heal. In reality, a rope-style burn could happen with any retractible leash, including this style, but it's a lot harder to cut through or dig into skin with a larger surface than it is with a thinner cord. As I mentioned, this might not be at the top of your list of concerns, but it's something to consider. All in all, after two years, I feel very comfortable highly recommending this product.

Its Rugged... AND its Yellow! .... .. It's perfect. lol
I've had this leash for about 3 1/2 months now... and it's great! My dog is a Saint Bernard, and at the time she was almost 5 months, and now about 8. She's basically an 80lb puppy... and she forgets that sometimes, so let me tell you this thing has DEFINITELY been able to withstand some tugging. She can be a bulldozer sometimes. lol. Now I'm not gonna lie, I was originally drawn to it because I REALLY wanted a Yellow leash (yes, I actually searched for that). I ended up coming across this one and I liked the fact that it had the reflector. Although it wasn't something that I really felt I "needed" ... it really is a great feature. Honestly wasn't sure how I'd like the flat strap, as opposed to a rope.. but it does really well. I mean, I don't let my dog chew on it, so I'm not sure how a dog that loves to chew on their leash would do... but for me... its perfect. I've also had no issue with it getting bunched up while retracting (no matter what angle i'm holding it at), which WAS actually one of my concerns when I was pondering purchasing it. I love the way it looks, I love how rugged it is, and it's comfortable to hold. It's a Great Leash and we are Very Satisfied with this purchase!

Good/great leash but NOT as described!
Purchased the listed leash at PetCo in Feb 2014 for $32.99. It was about $10 more than the other similar leashes, but had a reflective casing. I wanted that feature and was willing to pay the additional cost. Version I bought at the brick-and-mortar store is sturdy, appears well constructed, and operates as expected. Saw the "same thing" on Amazon for $18.57 and purchased two in Feb 2014. One leash to keep in my car, and one to keep with my mom. The cardboard packaging looks just like the one purchased at PetCo. The model number and the UPC are the SAME on the one I bought at PetCo and the version I bought on Amazon. HOWEVER, the reflective outer casings on the two are very different. The "reflective" casing of the Amazon leash is not nearly of the same "highway grade" (stated as on the package) as the casing on the PetCo one. If you are buying this leash for the "Highway Grade Reflective Sheeting" this was NOT on the leash I bought from Amazon. The "belt" part is also looks different, but it appears that this is just cosmetic and doesn't matter to me. Summary: Both leashes appear well made and the retraction so far is similar. However, the one bought on Amazon does NOT have the same level of Reflective Sheeting on the casing as the SAME model and UPC one I bought at PetCo. If you are looking for a decent retractable leash, the Amazon one is good, but the casing is NOT REFLECTIVE the same way that my other leash with the SAME model number and UPC from a store is. I know there is a significant difference in price and I expect to pay for what I get. I am used to Amazon having really good prices so I wasn't as surprised at the price differential as I might be if I saw it on another website - AND the model numbers and UPC is the SAME but the product is DIFFERENT. The leashes I bought on Amazon themselves are okay for the cost, but NOT as advertised and I feel I received less than described. UPDATE: UPGRADING to 4 Stars. Would be 5 but I still feel a bit deceived. These 2 bought on Amazon are holding up just as well as the one I purchased at PetCo and I literally toss them (lightly - but still) when I come in the house. They all have been dropped and abused. I use all three leashes OFTEN and interchangeably. I think if I had to walk on a dark road I would favor the PetCo one though.

Great for obedient or fairly good dogs, provides some freedom on walsk
One of the best things I have bought for my Labrador in a long time. He is an obsessive sniffer so usually he’ll stay behind to sniff things which makes walking him an exercise in accordion compression. It’s frustrating with a six foot leash so I decided to couple this with the recommended bungee/shock absorber attachment (sold separately). I can let my lab Sniff at his own pace as I keep walking or let him go to places off the road without following him into thick brush and mud. I should note if your dog likes to take off after things, you should really buy the $20 bungee that’s available here. It’ll lessen the shock on you and your dog especially if you tie this leash to your dog’s neck collar. She could choke out if there’s enough of a running start sprinting towards something. The tape inside the leash is fairly sturdy. I’ve seen some broken ones in the reviews here but after a few months of using this with lots of tying the rope around trees and getting it wound up around fairly abrasive objects, the tape still looks great, albeit slightly dirtier. The locking button and click-lock are very easy to use, but does make a considerable amount of clicking noise. I find that the lock button even if not click locked in place can take a second to unlock even after you’ve released the push down button itself because of the way the cogs or gears inside this leash works. I strongly recommend this if you have a good controllable dog who doesn’t dart off all the time. And for convenience, I also got the earthbags poop bag attachment that holds 15 or so bags. It’s great cos it has a little clip for holding onto poop bags so you don’t have to carry it in your hand!

Flexi is the only brand of these to buy
We have multiple Flexi "brand" dog leashes. AND we have multiple other brands...that I have taken to Goodwill. Most of ours are the 16 foot models. This is the 25 foot model. Flexi is a German brand and extremely well made and easy and reliable to operate. None of the others are like that. They all suck or break or both... I got the others mostly in an emergency where I forgot the Flexi's. Then you leave it like in a car and think, OH good, I have a leash in the car. Then comes the time to use it and you cuss as it either hangs up in the internal mechanism or starts to come apart. Flexi's cost more but if you have to buy two or three to last as long then what have you saved particularly since they are going to give you fits even when they sort of work. WE literally have a couple that are 15 years old. We try to have a couple in each vehicle. They have "improved" them in the last couple years, but still sell the "classic" ones like this. I prefer the old "classic" version but the new ones are OK, just a bit different in how they work and seem a bit less robust on the outer part but then again, less subject to getting banged and breaking. I think internally they are the same and that's the important part. So, it's personal preference. But I do find the older ones cost a bit less, in general. I found this 25 footer and it was a great deal cost wise so I bought TWO for our crazy woman 50 lb wolf looking pup rescue. That's how good a deal it was. She needs the length although she can build up speed fast and jerk your arm chasing most anything that moves. At least with these, they don't break when she gets to the end. You just have a hurt shoulder. It's better than breaking and her just keeping going. Ours is a runner so this is great. So, go Flexi is my recommendation always, look for some deals like this one was around half or more LESS than the stores... But even if you gotta spend full price Flexi is worth it.

As good as it gets.
Easily the best leash I’ve ever purchased. Five years, two Pitbulls and one mastiff later and it’s still going strong.
