Launch Your Construction Management Career&;Quickly and Effectively Written by an experienced construction management specialist, Construction Management JumpStart provides all the core information you need, whether you're considering a new career or expanding your responsibilities: Understanding the functions of construction management Understanding the design and construction process Working with contracts documents Estimating project costs Administering contracts Managing the job site Creating and maintaining a project schedule Measuring project performance Controlling quality Ensuring project safety Review: good intro to construction - I like this book! It's a good introduction to the world of construction management. I would suggest this read for prospective students interested in a building construction, architecture, facility design, mechanical or civil engineering degree at the undergraduate or graduate degree level. A lot of the terminology in the book is what is really used in the construction industry. A scope of the industry is provided and the author covers important subjects such as estimating and scheduling - as well as project management and contract administration. She's very thorough and she doesn't pull any punches. She let's you know up front that construction management is a challenging and often difficult career to master. But the author also reminds the reader that it's a rewarding career since the buildings and stuctures created will usually be around long after people involved in it's construction live. Review: Good - It is a good general overview about the whole process. I hoped for more details in some areas such as estimating, scheduling.

This is a great little book, its packed with information but not in a textbook like format. It is essentially everything you need to know to get started with CM and it is peppered with real world stories based on the authors experiences. I would say it is great for people considering a CM degree to get an understanding of what the field entails, but it is also equally valuable for tradespeople considering moving to a superintendent position or starting their own company. I use mine both as a personally reference, and to give to my up and coming tradesmen when they move to a lead position. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the trades.

I found this book very helpful in giving you insight and direction when trying to start out as a construction manager. It gives you ideas on how to precede from the beginning without having had much instruction. For more in depth detail you will need to go to other sources. But Like I said this book gives you pretty good direction in which way to turn.

Perfect!
This book is exactly what I have been searching for. I am a newly employed estimator/project manager and was searching for some sort of reference book to help me along. Dr. Jackson does a fabulous job of explaining things from all angles. Her book is easy to read and understand even for a novice such as myself. There are review questions at the end of each chapter as well as a list of terms to know. I find this book extremely valuable.
