Is this game appropriate for a 10-year-old? Why is it rated "teen"?

My 10 year old plays it. If your 10 year old has seen Star Wars they can play this game. No more violent then the movie which isn't that violent since no blood and guts get spilled. There are battle scenes and you will use a Light Saber to fight in those. Since it is Kinect what we do is we the plastic light sabers so you actually have something in your hand. Cool and fun game. I think your little one will be fine. My Daughter isn't a violent person but enjoys playing this game.

Is this okay for an advanced 5 year old who likes the movies?

He may need a little guidance learning to play the game, but as long as he understands the basic movements he should be okay, the game is not very fast paced or difficult. The game is rated T for Teen, but it doesn't exceed any level of violence or emotional content seen in the movies. It also features co-operative play, so if he needs help you can jump on and play it with him
