Love these shoes after 10 years
Love this hiking shoe! Late to review, but Ive had these shoes for 10 years and they have been a friend to my feet. Never a blister or uncomfortable spot and generally, my feet aren't sore. As a woman to who has worn heels most of my career, i am sensitive to good support and comfort. I hike mostly in rocky Pennsylvania (if you know, you know), Utah, Colorado - the soles and toe box provide alot of protection and have had great grip, very little slipping. I dont hike in much mud/rain, so I can't comment on the extremes. No rips, tears and soles have an expected amount of tread left. Fit- true to size, I generally wear a 6 or 6.5, the 6 were perfect for me. If the boot is submerged in water, your feet will get wet. I usually spray once or twice a year to help keep my feet dry as possible. I would buy definately buy again. Everything has a life and it may be time for these to be a back up/retired.

These shoes are amazing - perfectly comfortable right out of the box! The ultimate hiking shoe.
Let me preface this review by informing you that I hate shoes. If I can wear sandals of any kind instead of shoes, I will, every time. I dont' like having my feet so constrained. My hiking shoe of choice is the Chaco. I've been everywhere in those. But sometimes you need an actual hiking shoe, like when it's cold. And I am so, so, so glad I got these. I recently ordered these right before a November trip down through Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, and the Grand Canyon National Parks - so basically a 3-week trip that is all about hiking. Why would such an avid hiker order a pair of hiking shoes right before a trip without a chance to try them out or break them in first? I'm a huge procrastinator and I was on the fence about it because I have other Patagonia hiking shoes, but I hate wearing them because they are too narrow at the toes and after long hikes, this kills me. But after reading reviews, I put in my order with one-day shipping because that is level of procrastination I practice. They came just in time. The first two days of hiking were with my family right before Thanksgiving, so we did a 1 to 2 mile walk each day. No problem. Didn't even notice my feet. Which is actually a huge compliment because I notice all shoes all the time when I am wearing them. Well, except slippers I guess, but even those I'll only wear if I need the warmth. Then came the unintentional ultimate test that proved to me the true greatness of these shoes. The family had left and we were ready for a real hike. We decided on a 9-mile loop in the Needles area of Canyonlands. The hikes in this area are typically over a mixture of sandstone where the trail is marked by cairns, uneven rocky terrain, and sand. Now I can't say whether it is because my shoes were as brand new as they come and his were old, or just because mine were an overall better shoe, but for scrambling around over rocks and climbing up sometimes steep sandstone boulders/hills, these Keens had WAY better traction than my partner's Merrels - which he swears by. To make a long story short, about halfway into our hike, unpredicted snow started falling - fast. In these areas, it can be hard enough to follow a trail when you can see the ground. This was made exponentially harder by the 10 inches that fell over the next few hours and the darkness that set in. Earlier in the day as I climbed over unbelievably steep surfaces of sandstone like spiderman, I had asked "why do they call this the slickrock area?" I know why now. Since the rocks were still relatively warm from the sun earlier that day, a lot of the snow initially melted, causing a layer of runoff/slush/ice under the deep fluffy snow. These grippy rocks become slippery as could be! Then my shoes really out-shined the Merrels, my much more coordinated partner slipped several times while I remained upright. In the end, our 9-mile loop turned into a 14-mile hike of chaos, cold, wet, darkness for several hours. Since you couldn't see the ground at all, we both stepped in several freezing pools of water a foot or so deep, so the last 4 hours of the hike (it took forever to find our way!) were done in wet shoes. Luckily I had wool socks - my feet were soaked, but warm. And at the end of the longest day ever in non-broken in shoes, I had no blisters, no foot pain whatsoever, not even that typical I've been hiking way too long and my feet are tired feeling. And they dried out super quickly - I set them out near the heater and they were ready for another hike the next morning! So I can't say enough good things about these shoes. When they wear out, I'll be getting a new identical pair.

One of my best shoe purchases EVER!!!
Writing this after a second full day of wearing my new Keens. I love these shoes!!! Excellent for walking my super active shepherd. Feel so sure footed and solid on the ground. The traction is strong and really helps you grip the surface that you're walking on. They are wide but that's because your feet actually need the room. True to size. Sturdy comfortable shoes and my feet feel better at the end of the day today after the second day breaking them in than they have with any other shoes that I have. And I have good shoes. But for my feet to be happy I have to change them up frequently day to day or even within the same day. Not the case with these. Was comfortable the whole day that I wore them and was quite active. Recommended highly.

Great walking shoe but...
I looked high and low for the perfect walking and occasional hiking shoe. I took a chance on this model based on good reviews. I'm very picky when it comes to shoes as I have "box toes" that needs a roomy front and weak feet that need good arch and side support. When I received this pair, I was delighted by its fit, comfort, style and durability. The long search was over! It's been four months since I've been wearing the Keens 4-5 days a week around the house and for 1/2 hour morning and brief evening walks with my dog. I've been loving it . . . until now. This morning it started raining lightly as I walked my dog in my Keens. I live in Los Angeles, where we call a light sprinkle rain. In less than 5 minutes, my left toes started feeling damp. By the time I got home less than 10 minutes later, the top of my left sock and foot was wet as though it went through a marsh, which it didn't as I walked on concrete. Funny thing is, my right foot was dry. I noticed the same situation last month in Philadelphia while walking on a sidewalk covered with a light amount of snow. While the description for these Keens don't mention anything about them being waterproof, I assumed at least the toe part would be waterproof because of the heavy duty rubber layer over it. In the case of my left shoe, at least, that's not the case. Either the toe part of the shoe is indeed waterproof and my left shoe was improperly sealed or it is not waterproof and the right shoe remaining dry was a fluke. In any case, these shoes are wonderful for comfort and support, but if you need a pair that will keep your toes dry during the occasional mildly wet condition, look elsewhere. I'll have to reserve these Keens for only dry conditions and find another all-weather pair as I hate wet toes! Not that it rains much in L.A. . . .

No break-in needed, no complaints on wear- size issue
I know of Keen's respected reputation and all of my co-workers wear these for work and personal use (we do field work). I had waited a long time to buy a pair and a recent two week trip to Vietnam finally spurred my purchase. I literally ordered these online without try-on less than a week before departure. I poured through reviews here and other places. This was definitely the best price. Color was true to appearance. They are a light weight shoe which was critical for packing and wearing. I usually wear a 9.5... in running shoes I wear a 10 because one foot is larger than the other and my feet expand/swell with exertion. So on these, I chose the 9.5. I wore basic white athletic socks and they were just too big. I didn't care for the fit or look on my foot - BUT - after 12 miles of hiking/walking in the Sapa mountains - I didn't have any rubbing or discomfort. So my only recommendation would have been to order a half size down possibly. If I had been more responsible in ordering in a timely manner, I would've exchanged them. I didn't find them as versatile in use to go from hiking in the mountains to city-walking and not look clunky. I may have been looking for a for a more fashionable shoe that would transition and not make me feel like I was ready to hike because I was striving to pack versatile, day to night shoes and as minimal pairs as possible (I put this in here for other women trying to pack light but still feel as though they look presentable - nothing to dock the rating!). So I'm giving it 5 stars because they were comfortable despite my mis-sizing choice, they were true to appearance, lightweight and didn't cause me any problems with immediate wear and usage. If you have a wide foot or bunions, I'd imagine these to be an excellent choice. I think my expectations in appearance were not realistic since I hadn't even tried these on in the store. Looking forward to future wears with work and personal. Great quality as expected!

great shoe
I had a pair of these shoes (brown and orange) and have worn them every day for the last two years and I'm still wearing them. I go for my 1 1/2 mile walks in the park in them. They are very comfortable right out of the box. I got another pair while I still could because I thought Keen had discontinued the style, but thankfully they haven't. And I hope they never do! I would recommend these to anyone who wants a shoe that is long lasting and well made and has GREAT arch support. I especially like them because visually they make the foot seem shorter. I don't like shoes that make my feet look like clodhoppers! The color of the charcoal/sterling shoes here in the picture is accurate to the colors of the actual shoe. If you get some and they seem to fit a bit loose, just try some thicker socks. These are hiking shoes and hikers usually wear a thicker sock to not get blisters and I think that is probably why they are made to accommodate thicker socks. Otherwise I wear an 8 1/2 normally and 8 1/2 is a good fit in these for me in the Voyageur shoe. New review...I ordered the same size in these shoes that I had worn for the last three pairs I had had and this pair was too short and my toes hit the end. I wondered if they were mis-sized? I had to return them. I still want to get a new pair, but I will try to find some place where I can try them on first. I still recommend this shoe highly. They are very comfortable and long wearing.

Great hiking shoe
Once I received the correct size I found the shoes to be a good fit, good traction and good on steep slippery trails. I especially like the shoe strings. Don't have to double knot them they stay tied.

Amazing Hikers!
Amazing hikers! Lots of room in the toe box. I had a problem with my toes going numb with my other hikers, but haven’t had an issue with these ones. Very happy with my purchase.

Keens are the BEST for my feet. I love the wide toe box. They come up just high enough around my ankle. The soul is solid and great for all the road walking I do. Definitely buy again. Wait! I just did buy again!
