GREAT bug vac- effective and easy to use
This is the BEST. My daughter is using it for field work with pollinators and we are able to effectively capture a wide variety of insects for closer examination. True, the vacuum is not insanely strong, however there are a few tricks to help you be successful. First, flying insects often fly upwards, so placing the tool to so it's more vertical helps. Also, you can use the cap or another object to help encourage the bug to let go and get sucked into the vacuum. Most bug vacs are very narrow, and this one is much wider and works for stinkbugs, lantern flies, bumble bees, and some moths. Also, most bugs were very easy to release with a little patience and perhaps a small shake. It does not have a holding chamber or vial attached, but that was not an issue for me. Assembly is super fast and battery life is as expected, no problems. Bright yellow color helps you not lose it if you're outside. Highly recommended if you need to move bugs, are doing some science experiments, or have a curious child (very easy for kids to use).

Uselessly underpowered
Motor is so weak that it can't suck in anything heavier or more active than a very small, still moth resting against a flat surface. Flying or crawling bugs? Forget it. The battery compartment lid is also very poorly designed. I hate just throwing this in the trash, but they're not going to take this back since I've used it repeatedly.

Great Tool for Transferring Insects
This item was recommended to me by a friend. For those who view all beings as sentient, this is a great tool. It is strong enough to collect the insect, yet gentle enough not do any harm. I have safely transported insects from the indoors to the outdoors.

This nifty gadget sucks (but not enough)
Nifty gadget. Great concept for those of us who aren't into wholesale slaughter of spiders and whatnot. Also, for all of us who are smart enough not to squash stink bugs in your house or RV! I know it's a fine line between too much suction (which might squish the bug and/or fragment it against the filter grid) and too little suction. I think this product errs on the side of too little suction. It's always a crap-shoot whether that stink bug will get caught up in the vortex or will cling stubbornly to the wall/ceiling/drapes. I often find it necessary to move the business end back and forth to try and knock the insect off its perch. ALSO: I hope they'll update the design to have a rocker switch to suck OR BLOW. Once you've got that nasty spider outside, it'd be great to pop the cap and flip the switch in the other direction and blow that sucker out into the outdoors!

Decent device but sucking power, sucks.
I purchased this item because I can’t stand getting too close to bugs. The thought of one getting on my skin is enough to cause a slight panic. The Bug Buster keeps the insects at arms length so I don’t have to worry about a bug jumping into my hand. It’s very easy to setup (Just pop in one 9-volt battery) and it’s lightweight. The idea is great but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It works decently but I thought it would suck harder. The instruction manual states that “bug will be sucked rapidly into the tube”. They must have a different definition of the word, rapidly, because it’s far from it. The suction is very light and I had trouble sucking up a couple earwigs. After multiple attempts, I eventually got them into the tube. Once caught, the bugs were easily released outside and cleanup is very easy. A little dish soap and some hot water on the tube and a disinfectant wipe on the vent area. I wish there was an option to choose the color. The yellow isn’t my favorite. It doesn’t seem to be the most sturdy either. I don’t plan on this happening but it seems like it would break if dropped. So basically I was disappointed in the sucking power. If that could somehow be increased, it would be the perfect bug catcher.

Someone needs a Nobel Prize for this
My joke is that whoever invented this should get some kind of award. I don't like to squish insects (not only makes me feel bad for the poor bug who wandered into my house, but also is hard on the wall paint as the bugs often leave a stain) so this is now my go-to. No more trying to get some quick-moving spider to stay under a glass jar with a paper on top of it, or any of the other things I've done to put critters back outside. Works for spiders, assassin bugs, mosquito hawks, and even flies if you're quick. You'll know it's time for a battery change when the suction becomes less strong, but to me the batteries last a long time -- months.

Works but not heavy duty
With the summer, and the dogs in and out of the house all day, there's always bugs inside, hoards of gnats fit through the window screens. This bug vac is much easier and less messy than the flyswatter. Not sure how long the battery will last, but I did buy Energizer Max 9v. I use the turbo tip when there's a bunch of bugs I need to catch. The tube cap doesn't fit the turbo tip, but I cover it with my thumb moving from bug to bug. It would have been useful to have a cap to fit the turbo tip. Also a tether between the tube and the cap so I don't drop it or lose it. The black battery cap kept falling off. It just slides into place, so I had to tape it closed. The battery cap should lock into place. To empty it without bugs flying out, I stuck the tip down into a baggie, and tapped the sides until the bugs fell out. Decent, if a bit pricey, especially with the cost of batteries, but worth the ease of use and efficiency. If it lasts. Haven't tried it on larger flies. Hope the suction will be up to the challenge. August 17 update. Killed the motor. It's meant for occasional bugs. Not for summer swarms. Regular flies don't get sucked in.

Worthless
Vacuums are supposed to suck. This one doesn’t…

Update, this seller has quickly responded to my problem, within hours in fact. Excellent service.
New Update to my Update. Within hours of contacting the seller they have credited me for the one I purchased to compensate for the battery purchases and are sending me a replacement. You simply cannot ask for better than that, so purchase with confidence. So this is my update to my original review, it is draining expensive Duracel copper top batteries at an incredible rate, I have tested the batteries before install and it shows a full charge, I then catch only 6 individual stink bug captures which I logged and the battery is drained. I have tried through Amazon for an exchange, because when it works, it works but the battery situation is not sustainable. Amazon can only refund me and I would like a replacement. So I am giving the seller a chance through the system to replace this item in the hopes it is defective. If not then I will have to ask for the refund before my 90 day warranty is up. Original review: Okay, so I bought this to catch stink bugs. Stink bugs are new to our area and totally creep me out. I have no intention of releasing them, they are scheduled to die as advised by the B.C. government. I know this little gadget is for a safe release and it does work. Probably because its harm free the suction is a little weak and for me at 5 feet 1 inch and on a step stool I can just reach them on the ceiling. So initially, I was very pleased it seemed to be working, well enough. I had installed an expensive Duracell copper top battery purchased in a two pack specifically for this purpose. On that battery I have caught perhaps 15 individual stink bugs, now the power is starting to ebb and my Duracell battery shows it is in the yellow. I think for a battery of that quality that might be a little fast, I have checked the other Duracell it is right up into the green on the tester and we will see how many bugs and how long it lasts. If it drains that quickly, I may have a defective unit. I can only wait and see, having said that if you have a fear of bugs this is a good option, although it could have a little more suction and be a little easier on the batteries. I will update if the second battery dies as quickly.
