Little pricey but worth it!
Turned out perfectly for my DIY project! I secured them with fishing line to wooden hoops I bought from Amazon and sprayed black. They glow well when exposed to bright direct light (mine are hanging above a lamp). We transitioned from a nursery and my 3 year old loves his planets!

Awesome!
Awesome, had these as a kid growing up and bought the exact same ones 14 years later. Love them. They glow super brightly and looks cool.

Ignore the negative vibes, this set is great...
I'm glad I ignored the negative reviews; they almost prevented me from purchasing this set. This set is great. Yes, they are plastic. Yes, the paint job is simple. Yes, hanging system amounts to thumb tacks and fishing line. But fifteen dollars doesn't get you far in life these days, and for the price its great. Looks like Space Mountain in my kid's room. Lets address the complaints. These glow fantastic. The complaints about poor glowing amount to user error and requires having basic knowledge of lighting and a little common sense. If you simply have a standard light on in the room for an infinite amount of time, the planets will likely not glow very good. Why? Answer: Because the light is not DIRECTED at the planets. A standard bulb spreads out the light in all directions, thus limiting the potential light the planets could absorb. The same goes for natural daylight, not to mention that you are hanging the planets from the CEILING. It's like putting a solar landscape light under a large oak tree and asking what gives. And I'm not really sure why you would use a black or UV light?? Do what I do, get a 1000 lumen work light and shine on planets for 20 minutes, you will be more than satisfied with the results. As for the hanging system, for someone who has difficulties tying their own shoes, this was a non-issue. Fairly easy to work with, does take a little time and patience. Took about 45 minutes of actual hanging time to do four planets, if I tried harder could have shaved some time. I can't imagine the hanging system being much better with customizable heights. And the claim that the planet color schemes are not identified in the instructions is completely false. It is on the very first page, under the pictures of all the planets. It even says "The colors indicated below will help you find the corresponding glow in the dark planet". But really, even if the color schemes weren't listed, it takes about 30 seconds to figure out which is which with a little deductive reasoning, no "research" required. Earth is green and blue, Saturn has rings, Jupiter is the biggest without rings, Mars is the red one, Pluto is the smallest, Mercury the second smallest, Venus is the smallest of planets left, Uranus is solid color without variation, and Neptune is last. What's hard about that? Ugh. And all the fuss about the sun seems ridiculous. Why would the sun be in a glow in the dark set? Do you see the sun at night? Where is the moon? Where are all of the moons? Using the ceiling light as the sun makes sense, for those of whom it makes any difference to. Now, if you want a durable toy, which this should not be considered, or a strong educational tool, then this set might not be for you. But if you want an awesome room accessory and a happy kid, this will work.

Good Product, But Falls Short
~BACKGROUND~ I purchased this as a gift for my 8 year-old son. ~OVERVIEW~ 9 planets NO SUN ~25 feet of clear string (fishing line) 200 glow in the dark adhesive stars planetary guide book ~PROS~ - It's educational which was most important to me. - It glows - not too bright which was perfect for us. - The tacks used to pin the planets to the ceiling are clear so they don't stand out. - The planets are well detailed and nicely colored. ~CONS~ - NO SUN! - The fishing line used to hang the planets is challenging to tie to the planets. - The fishing line used to hang the planets is not of equal length, so you have to try to tie them to the planets equal. - The sticker stars are somewhat dim and can be challenging to peel and stick. - Not really a "fun" type of toy - hang it, look at it. ~TIPS~ - Since there is no sun, use your ceiling light as the sun. - Set aside about an hour to set this up in it's entirety. - Sit at a table and assemble the planets and string first. ~CONCLUSION~ We have had these up for several months and none have fallen. They glow fairly bright after being exposed to light and slowly fade to a dim glow. Overall we are pleased with this set.

My son (4) has a Star Wars themed room and I wanted to do something cool on the wall/ceiling in a blank corner
These are fabulous. My son (4) has a Star Wars themed room and I wanted to do something cool on the wall/ceiling in a blank corner. He was so excited to have them hung. Because I read a few reviews stating they don't glow very bright, I hung them in a half-circle formation by the only window in the room. He can easily see and point out each plant at bedtime now. He doesn't need his nightlight or closet light on anymore, either. That was never problematic to begin with, but he loves seeing them glow so much he insists that the lights are all off and blinds drawn close. Even my girls, who have a more grown-up girly room, love to join him at night before bed to see them. A few reviews said they didn't glow well and needed extra TLC to see them in the dark. I haven't needed to "charge" them with a flashlight directly or indirectly. Being about a full foot from the window, a full day of natural light through the blinds is all we need for them to glow all night. The colors don't reflect very well (ie: blue planet doesn't necessarily glow blue) but for $15 -- the whole set is much better than I expected! I also saw a lot of reviews saying the stars/stickers were too hard to pull off. This is true and not true in my experience. Some were tricky, but I was able to get most of them off with no problems at all. Because they are smaller stickers, I added them to the edges of floating black shelves on the wall. He loves this. I'll be buying a pack of bigger space-themed glow in the dark stuff to apply to the ceiling and walls around the corner where they hang to give that space a little more depth and glow impact. The set includes everything you need to hang, too, which is great because I realized I didn't have any push pins and was happy to see everything I needed in the package. I'd definitely recommend these for any teacher's classroom, study/homework/game room, kids room.... they're fun and really easy to put up. Not a huge investment for a cool decoration to have around -- especially one you can enjoy at night. Five stars all around! I'll be back to add pictures ASAP. = )

Budding Space Adventurer
We bought this set as a Christmas present for our 4yr old son. We like the size of the planets & the fact it came with everything needed to set it all up. My husband put it up (including the sheet of tiny stickers) in a reasonable amount of time. Our son loves it. When it’s all glowing (with a really cool moon light he received in addition to this set), to our son, it looks like a planetarium. The tiny star stickers are great because it looks more accurate than the tacky large star stickers most kids have had that fall off after a period of time & are still being discovered 10yrs later. LoL So why only 3 stars? These planets do not easily glow - the reason one buys glow-in-the-dark anything. My poor husband has to walk around charging it all before bed, every night. We are looking into a better light source to charge the planets, either during the day or, before bed. From reading other reviews, we may have gotten a dud set but, I cannot imagine removing all the tiny stars from our 12’ ceilings to return the set. If you choose to purchase, I would take everything out of the box & “test” how they glow before you put everything up.

We love these glowing planets!!
I decided to try these for my 4 yr old's room, despite the somewhat negative reviews. He loves learning about the planets, and also loves the glow in dark stars on his ceiling so I thought these would make a great addition. And they are wonderful!! We are so in love with them every night when the lights go out. The plastic is lightweight so they can easily hang from fishline, not necessarily cheap. Assembling the planets and stringing them to fishline is fairly easy. Tying a little loop on the other end to hang from the pin took a little patience, but not too bad. The star-shaped pins hold them securely to ceiling with no problem. The different colors and patterns make each planet glow brighter or dimmer, for a realistic touch. I will agree a downfall is the sheet of glow stars they include....they are TINY, could fit on my thumbnail. But they are great filler stars IF you buy some larger glow stars to fill the ceiling, and I highly recommend you do! The star sets made by Great Explorations & University Games are great, OR the jar of stars made by The Toysmith are great too - all available on Amazon. The key is to get sets with different size stars, it really makes your ceiling universe pop. I was so impressed by how amazing his room looked at night....that I bought another set of planets and large set of stars for OUR room (keep watch on these, as Amazon often puts them on sale - I got mine for $9.99 w/ free s/h!) And now I'm so in love with my nighttime universe, as much as my little boy! I look forward to gazing at it every night before my eyes quickly close on another exhausting wonderful day.

Toddlerhood to Childhood Decoration of 'Whoa, not bad'
I am all about early childhood introduction for those upcoming educational lessons. In school there was a huge divide on who knew something vs who didn't know anything in elementary. Likely those young ones who knew something had someone who introduced them. I also came from a house hold of young attractive single mother who barely (jokingly) survived being a mom to a teenage girl. My solution as the teenage mom grown into motherhood with my own female daughters was to find what they like before turning into a teenager in hopes of less 'boy' distraction; those years are challenging and need to be prepared for in advance. In movies growing up the girls who were more intune with their education and less intune with nature transition distraction into adulthood were girls who were interested in stargazing, but I didn't proceed with the purchase as that realm is full of studious requirements. One like minded mother in the comments had provided the round about measurements for a home display of enjoying a little nature, a little introduction in education, a little interest, and some style. I was able to measure out the distances and came up short for one of my three displays. Poor Pluto, someone wanted their name in a book so they proclaimed that Pluto was no longer apart of the solar system, but he maintained his rightful place in box, display, in my heart, and mind especially as a favored planet despite being too cold, a little small, and taking too long to navigate around the sun (definition of planet.) I had also purchased glow in the dark stars that reminded me of my own childhood. Grandma purchased a glow in the dark story book with my name on it where I took a quarter ride on a rocket ship to visit the stars but returned home promptly after the quarter ride stopped moving if and when I was ready to. I did the same for my own children, but not everyone has that drive, interest, desire to pick up the falling stars from the ceiling, or pluck them from their great heights when they are ready to move on to the next sky. Later on I found an amazing night light that lit up the planets and stars with gentle soothing colorful lights of an aura. This has been a huge win for the rooms of my mini me spawns with a nice way to relax after a book at bedtime, or admiring the stars into slumber with wee ones for a good view.
