Its A must have if you have lots of fish . Way easier to try and make them DIY .

The #250 unit takes TWO.the package is one. Replace the lowest ilarge nternal filter with carbon .
this entire filter unit keeps the turtle poop and fish poop virtually gone. The water is still tinted green. I'm hoping that the charcoal bottom filter bag replacement (not what comes with the original unti) might solve that. the bio process hopefully will work or somewhat frequent cleaning or changing of the sponges is needed. I disconnect and empty the hoses (intake one first to avoid the siphoning problem) and put towels around the filter bottom outside before going further. the instructions are only fair, but the phone support is wonderful. I have my unit too far below the tank and will raise it. The first time was difficult. The times after that were MUCH easier and I am overall very pleased. I love the aeration part of what it does. I'd buy it again. also tracking down replacement sponges is not so easy. the finer the sponges, the more often they need attention.
