Update: A few weeks after this review I caught a 1 lb largemouth on this combo using a Ned rig and had zero issue landing it. See photo above. Kastking does it again! What a great rod/reel combo. This is my 2nd combo I've purchased from Kastking, the other was the cadet bait caster combo. For this one, I bought the 5'6" light spinning combo with the 2000 reel because I needed a lighter rod for pan fishing and trout fishing. The first thing I noticed was how light the rod was. It uses IM6 blanks which give it great strength while being super light. The moderate fast action bends about half way down. The reel is a nicely painted white, what I assume is aluminum body. The bail has a nice snap to it and the reeling action is very smooth. There's no reverse play whatsoever. It does have a reverse lever which is nice and the handle can be swapped to either side. I spooled it up with some 4 lb mono I had lying around and took it out. I was casting an inline spinner and the rod bombs it waaay out there! The drag has a nice ping to it and adjusts in a fairly consistent increasing resistance. The one thing I noticed is the drag knob does have some tilt/play/looseness when it is set on lower drag but I don't think it'll be an issue. I caught the world's tiniest largemouth bass on my 3rd cast but I guess I can't be mad since I bought this rod/reel to catch small fish. So, as far as I'm concerned it is doing exactly what I bought it for. I think Kastking has earned my business for good. I'll continue to buy their rods and reels as well as fishing line. I'm also interested in whatever other stuff they will be releasing!

I have multiple different “brand” names on my fresh water rod collection. Luv2fish since 1984… 48 and father of two young boys. First time out fishing with my youngest. Rod snapped? I couldn’t believe it. I’ve got three other rods and my 5’3 I gave to my boy. Caught a my fair share of bass with it. Sad to throw it away. So I honestly have to give a 1/4 type score, %75 chance you get a rod that don’t snap?? Great feel, nice action, really nice overall Just my bad luck Son still caught his first fish!

Don't buy, broke on the first cast. I would not recommend.

Great rod and reel combo. Everything is great, the only thing I would say it's the 2000 size reel that comes combo with the 5'6" is just a little too big but still works great. Hard to beat for the money.

I ordered the lightweight rod for a trout setup. The rod has a great action and the reel is very smooth and is perfect for the fishing I do with it. I also have the KastKing Centron 500 reel that I can interchange for an ultra light setup. I’ve always been very pleased with all of my KastKing products and this combo is no different. It is a great combo at a great price and I definitely recommend. It comes packaged very well in a heavy duty tube that I will save and use to store rods for travel.

My son is super excited to use this pole in fresh water. He was able to set it up at home quickly with his dad. It came delivered in nice sturdy plastic tube/case.

The reel is great! But the rod broke on the 2nd fish caught. I bought an Ugly stick rod to put the KastKing Reel on.

This was my second kast king. I got the 5’6”spinning combo and it is a sweet spinning rod an reel combo, definently a great deal for a set up under $100. It is a very comfortable rod, and I have had no issues with the reel at all. Packaging was nice sturdy tube and box so there wasn't any damage at all when it came in. Great value!
