Keane is singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, keyboardist Rice-Oxley and bassist Quin. Four years have elapsed since Keane's last album Perfect Symmetry; two since Night Train, the EP which followed its three full-length predecessors to the top of the British album charts, securing them a place in pop history. If Keane's feverishly loyal fan base wondered what the group's next album would sound like, they weren't the only ones. In the eight years following the release of 2004's 9× platinum Brit award winning Hopes & Fears, every Keane album has marked a clear progression from the previous one: the anxious emotional terrain mapped out by Under The Iron Sea to the iridescent poptimism of Perfect Symmetry. Strangeland was produced by Dan Grech (Radiohead, The Vaccines, Howling Bells), recorded at Sea Fog, Keane songwriter/pianist Tim Rice-Oxley's studio in South Downs, UK. Review: Don't you look back, I've no doubt that I will see you on the road. - It is an absolute travesty that Americans have not fully embraced Keane like they embraced U2 and Coldplay and even The Killers. For it is from those seeds that Keane's music has taken shape. Of course there's also Travis as well. But the bottom line remains: Keane are far more popular in their native England than they are here. I mean, all of their albums have gone number one there. Can any American name any song from Keane? I still have people with furrowed brows say to me, "Keane? Who is that?" I am biased, of course, every so often I find a band or artist that, to my ears, can do no wrong. Keane is one of those bands, and I'd even go so far as to give them an edge over Coldplay. With their fourth album, "Strangeland", the band continues to make great melodic piano driven music. They've always reminded me of my favorite era in music, the new wave/punk movement of the late 70's and early 80's. These guys really know how to make melodies that are memorable and that soar, always stadium friendly. The deluxe version has four extra tracks. Without them there is a five star album here. With them, there's still a five star album here. Sure, there are songs that stand out from the pack, and all of these that I'm about to name should easily shoot into the American top 10. Songs like "You Are Young", "Silenced By The Night", "Sovereign Light Cafe", "On The Road", "The Starting Line", "Neon River" and even "Sea Fog". I think the only songs that might falter are "Watch How You Go", "Black Rain", "Day Will Come", "The Boys" and "It's Not True", but really, there are no weak tracks to be heard here. Everything is given a meticulous production and melodic sheen. Now, some critics have complained that "Strangeland" finds the band spinning its wheels and not pushing forward musically like they did on their last album, 2008's "Perfect Symmetry". Well that may be true, but there is no shortage of exciting material to be had here. Perhaps the band did go back to 2004's "Hopes And Fears" for some inspiration, but that was also a great album. In fact, Keane have yet to make a misstep musically. All of their albums are great. So, "Strangeland" gets five stars from me, something I don't often give out, because there are no songs that I can readily point to that tarnish the shine found throughout the album. It's cohesive musically and thematically. Here's how "Strangeland" compares to Keane's previous works: 2004 Hopes And Fears: Four Stars 2006 Under The Iron Sea: Four and a Half Stars 2008 Perfect Symmetry: Five Stars 2010 Night Train (EP): Three Stars 2012 Strangeland: Five Stars Review: Brilliant Pop Album Even For Keane Purists - First, I should say I have loved everything they have done except 'Night Train'('My Shadow' would be the only real exception...); the natural progression from album to album has been both joyful and challenging at times, but each one seems to reflect how the band is feeling at that point; Perfect Symmetry was hard to adapt to at first, but after many listens, I finally get what they were doing: having fun after all the 'Tom Turmoil'(which made for great 'UTIS' songs...)... This CD continues in that direction, but is def a return to earlier sounding days at times; there are plenty of Keane trademarks throughout this CD, songs that reflect everything from 'She Says She Has No Time' to 'Nothing In My Way'; The first 5 songs pretty much establish the greatness of this album('You Are Young' is pop perfection...), only to be sidetracked by a more Mt Desolation sounding tune('On The Road'...)there are 2 other songs on here that I feel could have been cut, but songs like 'Black Rain' and 'Neon River' make for some very nice surprises. Tom has rarely sounded better; his range and ability are more than apparent, and while there are a few moments of somewhat contrived lyrics, he never misses a note, and his melodies always take you on a different path than you think they may be going; the production is solid and rich; Tim's keys are intricate and layered, and the presence of Jesse on bass adds a layer of drive to a lot of the songs; Richard is just a fantastic drummer, truly underrated I think. Excellent harmonies by all, and lots of note/chord progressions to supply a chill up your spine. Also, I am kind of tired of hearing people say it's not 'Hopes & Fears'; No, it's not; it's 8 years later, and the band has been thru some hard times & changes, inc the addition of a new band member; I don't think they have ever lost touch w/their roots(except Night Train...)and what made 'Hopes...' great; and while it sometimes is a challenge to hear those influences on their later work, they are there. This album marks another step forward w/a slight step in an expanded direction; but the Keane roots are there on this album just waiting to be found and enjoyed; they make the albums they feel like making at the time, and I can live w/that. I LOVE this CD!!!!

Brilliant Pop Album Even For Keane Purists

It became one of my recent favorites
Keane is not for everyone. That should be made clear. It is not the kind of music you would jam in your car to look cool or necessarily listen to in front of your friends. But if you like slightly retro, melodic, piano and synth music with a bit of emotional drama that does not sound like anybody else, then read on. If you know the song "Somewhere only we know" then you know the excellent song craft can Keane exhibit. The melodies and words work their way into your mind and later you may find yourself humming the tune when nobody is listening. This band is not afraid to try new sounds or switch up the style, but 3 things remain in just about every Keane song... excellent expressive singing, piano, and thought provoking lyrics that paint a story in my head when I listen. This latest album is often compared to their past works or even a particular song, but bands cannot remain in one place... or they become period bands that only play their greatest hits. I think this album rates as high as anything they have done in the past and in some cases, I find myself hitting the repeat button to hear every nuance of a favorite song. Highlights are: Neon River - A lover moves on... one is left behind... Sea Fog - This melancholy song is like a sad memory of a close friend's death Sovereign Light Cafe - this reminds me that you cannot always return home once you leave it... The Starting Line - An inspirational song of pushing on despite setbacks Enjoy...

This album is truly incredible from start to finish!! It's a must buy! Some songs hit you straight away like silenced by the night and disconnected, the 2 singles and other songs like on the road and day will come. But other songs creep up on you and are excellent growers such as neon river and in your own time. It's definitely worth listening to more than once if it doesn't grab you the first time as it really is a classic and I feel over time you will think it's better than all their previous work or at least equal to it. It's a great mix of all their music so far but at the same a new, fresh, positive sound! I'm in love with every song but especially watch how you go, on the road and sovereign light cafe. The latter is truly stunning and one of the best songs ever written!! Sea fog is a beautiful stripped back ending to the album which even the critics of the album still seem to love a lot. The bonus songs on this deluxe edition are also incredible and just as good as the 12 album tracks. The actual track strangeland is truly beautiful and run with me is very catchy! Overall, after a dozen times of listening, I believe this album is there best yet and is a must for everyone's music collection. It is full of passion, beautiful lyrics and gorgeous melodies that no one could possibly resist!

A découvrir.

The product was great - I already know all the songs, i love Keane, amazing band with the best lyrics, rhythm and melodies married together - I got it for the book. It was advertised as used but is in exellent condition and dvd and cd work perfectly. I am very satisfied with this transaction and would absolutely buy from this seller again.
