Slim Combination Lock

I guess I would give 5 stars for the product itself. There are a few different size lock holes, so make sure you get one that fits your computer. The cable is well made and stronger than needed. The cord length is more than ample. My minus one star would not be for the product itself but because the "weak link in the chain" is not the cable. The locking hole in the device itself is the weakest part of the system. One sharp tug results in the device coming free from the cable lock (I have tested this on old devices). So yes, it acts as a deterrent, but a thief in the know can grab your device with hardly any ruckus.

I was using a cable lock with keys until I lost one of the keys. The combo is safer and easier to use. The locking mechanism is strong and the cable is thicker than other brands. It won't stop a thief, but will be great for deterring them.

Update - The laptop lock finally failed after four years . . . locked to my computer! Had to cut it off with an angle grinder. Buying the Keyed version this time. Full faith in this product. : ) #1 Take Away - Buy a Kensington lock! I love this product. But I probably chose the wrong kind of Kensington. The combination wheels are just a liiiiiiiittle too small for my fingers. I'm 6'3" so I should have seen this coming. If you have medium-sized hands, buy this product. If you larger hands, thicker fingers, or problems with arthritis, Kensington offers the same product with a key instead of combination wheels. Trying to decide between a key lock and combination lock? Keyed locks have the drawback of adding one more key to your ring and also the possibility of losing the key. Combination locks have the drawback that after you lock the cable to the computer, you have to scramble the wheels or else it isn't really "locked." And after you unlock it and remove the computer, you have to scramble the wheels or else you've left your combination visible for all to see. Choose wisely!

I purchased a "universal" laptop cable lock that turned out to not be "universal" at all. Returned it and got this for the exact model of newer Dell Laptop my client had and it works and fits like a charm. If you are looking for a cable lock for your laptop always check the size and type of security slot on your exact model. outside of fit this had a good length, was easy to set the combination, and had a comfortable mechanism to open and close the teeth that fit in the security slot. If your laptop takes this connector, this is a great lock to have to stymie basic pick-up-and-walk-away type theft.

I was clearly sent a used lock in a "Ready to Ship" bag, instructions floating around and combination set by previous owner. Due to an already set combination, I was unable to unlock or reset the combination. Highly disappointed as I needed this immediately for upcoming company travel. I will not do business with Kensington again.

As mentioned in the title, I use this for my work laptop and it does the job well easy to set up easy to remember taking home and to work to carry my laptop is easy

Not a lot to say about this - it fits, I was able to set my own code, and install it on my laptop.. The IKEA-like directions are adequate - you have to do the 6 step "reset combination" to set your initial 4-digit secret code combination. I had to use a small screwdriver instead of a paper clip. You use the 4-step instructions to install it on your laptop. How to remove it should be obvious - set your secret code, slide the lever on the side of the lock and pull it out of the laptop. I still haven't got over Dell changing to this wedge-shaped type of security device.

Good quality. Keeps my mind calm to think there is some security.

The lock gets often stuck with the correct code and is impossible to unlock. You have to wiggle it and move around the combinations back and forth and pray that it will unlock at some point. Missed a couple of meetings because of this. Don't recommend.

Mildly infuriating. Dell laptops that somehow had to use a different shape than the standard security lock shape.
