Sushi Chef in no time...
Pros: Made out of sturdy material, very easy to use and clean, clear instructions, fun Cons: Hard to grasp sushi to cut if sushi is thicker I love sushi, but I was sick and tired of paying $11-$13 per special roll at restaurants. I love to cook and prepare meals, so I thought purchasing a sushi making kit would be right up my alley. This kit is so easy to use, and it comes with very straight forward, step-by-step instructions. I'm not a fan of the seaweed wrapper, so I purchased the soy wrapper instead, and it works well with this sushi kit. The instructions included within this product tells you exactly how to make "sushi" rice, and it also gives you suggestions and the ingredients to put within your sushi roll. My first two rolls included cucumber, avocado, and sushi grade raw tuna. I thought it was quite fun making the sushi by myself, so I'm sure if you make it a family affair with your kids, it'll be a great time! I was a little confused with how to use the plastic sushi mat to roll the sushi. I'm not sure if I was reading the instructions incorrectly, but it didn't make sense to me in regards to rolling up the sushi. I just decided to get my hands dirty, and use my hands to roll it in combination with the mat. Some of my rolls were a tad bit bigger than I expected (probably because I didn't roll is tight), but this caused the green sushi cutter to not fit over the sushi. I had to open it out a little more, and then cut the sushi. Other than these two minor things, the sushi turned out well. This product is very easy to clean, as well, which was a major plus for me. All in all, I'd say this was an excellent buy. I love sushi, and I now enjoy making sushi for myself and others. With the step-by-step instructions, and the ease of using the product, I thoroughly recommend it. If you're anything like me in regards to your love of sushi and preparing food, then this product is for you. I'm personally elated with my purchase. This is an honest review. I purchased this item with my own money at full price, and wanted to give honest feedback. I hope this helps!

Really easy!
I got my Sushiquik the day before yesterday and made my first rolls last night. I have to say, it was easier than I thought it would be and the rolls came out looking great! The Sushiquik worked as advertised, I loved that it went right in the dishwasher when I was done, and the construction is thoughtful and clever. Due to the large amount of prep work to make various kinds of rolls, if your planning on doing just one kind, I could see making this more often, but as it is, I think it would be a lot of fun for a make-your-own-roll party or as an ocassional treat with kids. A few thoughts on sushi making in general: 1) You need more rice than you think you will. I used a cup per roll when using the frame. 2) You need less ingredients for each roll- no need to cut up more than one carrot or one cucumber when making veggie rolls. 3) Prepping your ingredients ahead of time is key to making the actual roll-making quick. If you try to cut and prep ingredients as you need them, it could easily take you an hour to make a few rolls. As it was, it probably took me 15 minutes to stuff and roll three with the ingredients already cut up. 4) Sharpen your knife before you begin. A dull knife will mash you rolls as you cut them more than slice. I'm thinking about investing in a better chef's knife just so I can get a finer cut. Overall, I thought it was a great product and a wonderful way to make sushi at home. I'm planning on having friends over for a sushi party in the near future.

Fun and easy to use
This arrived quickly and has easy to follow instructions. There is definitely a learning curve to making sushi. There is a technique to make these tight enough and pretty like they do in restaurants. The money we save using this is fantastic. We have a lot of fun getting to customize what we put in our rolls and it is fun to get to do it ourselves. The first try was pretty funny. I spread the rice as instructed, I wasn't quite sure if I was overfilling the veggies and shrimp or not but I just went with it. When I rolled it up I didn't apply much pressure so the rolls came out HUGE. They were still rolls, but bite size was not exactly how I would describe them. Still worked, still tasted good so nothing wasted. The second time I tried adding a tiny bit less rice and then I used MUCH more pressure to really get them tighter. This was much closer to the nice bite sized pieces I'm used to. SO I am getting the hang of it. I love the cutting guide. It holds everything together so you can make nice even cuts. The sauce pieces are worthless to me because I don't use sauce. As end caps, they are also worthless because this item fits nicer laying flat in our drawer. If you were putting it someplace else it may be helpful...and of course if you actually use them that is helpful. Over all this is fun, easy to use and saves a ton of money on buying expensive takeout sushi weekly.

I'm making sushi!
I used my Sushiquick Kit for the first time today and I love it! I've never attempted to make sushi before and I must say that the finished product looked very professional thanks to his kit! First of all, the folding mat easily attaches to a base and the sheet of nori (seaweed) lays on the mat. I also purchased Kazu 100% Organic Sushi Nori from Amazon. With a measurement of approximately 8.5 x 8.5, the sheets perfectly fit on the folding mat. As an added bonus, a free lightweight bamboo mat was included in the package of 50 sheets! Back to the sushi kit -- there is a plastic frame that is placed on top of the sheet of nori and this frame allows you to perfectly spread your rice and serves as a guide for the thickness of the rice layer. The included rice paddle makes this effortless. I found it even easier to moisten the paddle with some water while spreading the rice. There is an area at the top of the nori which will not be covered by the rice that will be dampened with water for sealing the sushi roll. After removing the frame, I added thin strips of carrots, cucumber and avocado on top of my brown rice and I was ready to roll! The mat easily and neatly folds and seals the sushi roll and then there is a cutting guide that you place over the roll and expertly slice perfect portions! It's also helpful to dip your sharp knife in water while cutting each piece. There is a helpful instructional sheet enclosed with photos showing each step of using the Sushiquik Kit. If you're interested in making your own healthy sushi at home and saving money as well, then I highly recommend that you purchase this kit!

It's okay.
We used this for our very first time to make sushi at home. We made 5 or six rolls the first night, and 5 or 6 rolls the following afternoon. Overall the product was okay. The slats on mat that is used to roll the sushi are about 1/2" wide so it made compressing the rolls a little difficult and clumsy. The stand that is used to roll the sushi on is somewhat flimsy so again, it is a little difficult to get a tight roll on the sushi. That being said, the above issues we able to be overcome, it just took a little longer that it could have. We did not try to roll half sheets but after using the product I wouldn't suggest it.

Loved it!
My very first time making sushi, and this kit worked flawlessly! As you can read here on Amazon, most of the reviews are positive, with a few bad ones. I really can't comment on the bad ones, except to say that I don't want the hassle of having to saran wrap a bamboo mat every time I want to make sushi. The Sushiquik really made the whole process easy. Sure, you can layer on rice without the frame, but why? The frame made it so easy to get the edges straight and the rice evenly packed along the roll. I actually made 6 different rolls last night, and I just got better and better at this, even though my first roll was pretty perfect, they just got better and better as I played with the amount of rice and filling, and varied the pressure I used when rolling. The rice spoon was amazing! Everything in my house was sticking to the rice EXCEPT this spoon! FYI: Sushiquik sent me an e book with some recipes in it. Nice touch! Anywhooo, I highly recommend this set if you want a nice clean way to make sushi rolls. If you are a traditionalist who doesn't like improvements in your world, get on your horse and ride to the store to go get a bamboo mat...and hey, why are you on the Internet?

Fun Product to Help you Learn a New Trick!
I just purchased the SushiQuik because I was doing a study on Japan with my granddaughter's second grade class I thought the children would enjoy trying sushi. I did a practice run last week and found the SushiQuik easy to use. My rolls looked good and tasted good. I do have room for improvement though as I could have rolled the sushi tighter and should have used less water in cooking the rice. But that's not the fault of SushiQuik - just my lack of experience - this was my first attempt at sushi. I'm making more today for the school and it's doing better. The company was EXTREMELY helpful with ??'s about how far in advance you could make the susui. Also I thought I had not received the paddle that comes with it. They were very helpful in trying to get me another paddle. Fortunately I found the paddle and saved everybody trouble. But they are very a responsive company! Just wanted to add that I used the sushi maker for a second time and my technique was much improved. The sushi quik makes it very easy to put out good looking sushi, I was doing this for my granddaughters class as they are studying Japan. The kids loved watching me make the sushi and eating it. Of course, since it was just kids, I only used veggies - no fish! Great success.

Good first time kit
After reading some reviews (even on youtube) I was a little bit afraid but turns out this is an AWESOME tool, I was able to easily make my first salmon roll without any problem, and even my wife (after showing her my plate of 8 sushis) thought I bought them from my local publix. The only two main issues (reason for 4 stars) is that the cutting guide thing closes up at the ends so it's slightly of annoying to remove the cutted pieces and second issue is that the pieces of the plastic mat brake up and fall even after the slightest pressure but are easily clipped back on. I think people having problems with the end result could be a wrong way to roll the mat or adding too much stuff on the rice. To me it was very simple on first try after watching 1 youtube video . After that I made like 12 more rolls and it was a great experience.. Also for fun I tried with a non-sushi rice and omg what a total disaster, this is truly intended to be used with ONLY sushi rice or whatever other rice that sticks ;-) To me the rolling mat is not the main selling point (not loving the much too narrow and flimsy platform either), it's the frame and the special rice spatula that make this kit very enjoyable.

Makes sushi easy!
This is such a good little set, I've never made sushi before and this made is so simple and easy to make. The first roll looked so-so, but by the 3rd one it looked as if it was brought from a shop!

Funktioniert einwandfrei! Damit kann es jeder!
