Saved Hundreds of Dollars
This kit saved me over $400 versus having a locksmith come over to do the same thing. I re-keyed 4 Kwickset locks in 2 hours and now all use the same key. Previously I had 2 keys for the 4 doors. I imagine it's dificult for the instructions to keep up with changes that are made by the manufacturer of the door knobs so it is necessary that you have a good understanding of the differences in the re-keying of the various models by reading through the entire set of instructions before starting the process. My knobs required the use of steps from 2 different models at various points of the process. After taking my time to figure out the steps for the first one, the three others were very easy to do and only took an additional 45 minutes. The included spring lock removal tool didn't seem to have the correct diameter so instead I just used a couple small screwdrivers to pry it off. I am very happy with this kit and recommend it to anyone with patience and at least an average mechanical skill set.

Works on Brinks blue-box locks
I bought some brinks door knobs and deadbolts - all inexpensive from walmart and each on different keys. I noticed the keys had KW1 marked on them, so I had a hunch the kwikset rekeying sets might work for them to get all our deadbolts and knobs to work on one same key. This E 2400 primeline Kwikset 5-pin set worked perfect on those Brinks as well as some from a kwikset basic multipack lock cylinders. I got 6 each of 5 different color pins that go with the 3 keys in the provided package. The keys are kinda rough and cheaply - I'm going to see if having a copy made will yield any better quality. Anyway this beats the heck out of buying a $150 locksmith set and I still can rekey two more locks to match this same key. Decent value.

Excellent guide and tools but no short pins
This is a good set of parts but was missing a few I needed. However, I was using it for a slightly different purpose. This kit comes with keys and a guide to rekey a lock to use the included keys. But what I needed was to re-key a lock to match an existing key, The directions were clear and the disassembly tools worked well. However, although the kit includes many sizes of pins, did not include the shortest pin I needed to match the existing key. Fortunately there were 2 short pins in the old lock so I could re-use those and match the lock to my key but would not have been able to do it using just the parts in this kit. The alternative would have been to re-key all 3 of my locks to match the new keys and not sure there are enough parts in this kit to do 3 locks, plus it is a time-consuming process.

Great kit
Not a bad kit at all. The plastic twizzers are not very useful, but that's not what you buy the kit for. I was able to re-pin a Kwikset lock cylinder with the provided keys.

Re-keyed 6 locks!
Had to re-key a lock for my aunt, and this set did the trick. Re-keyed 2 deadbolts and 6 locks with it, and to this day they work great! The only thing missing was a special key for 2 of the locks in the house, that required a special "tumbler" unlock key, but that can easily be made. Each lock is different, and I have seen some reviews that were bad on this kit. I think that comes from a bad understanding of how to use a re-key kit. It is a simple process, and although the instructions aren't perfect, you can watch a few Youtube videos, and be a pro in no time, if you have any mechanical skills at all. This type of lock is the only thing I had an issue with. After watching this video, I figured it out. [...]

Yes I was successful in rekeying the locks but as with any DIY project it was not as easy as I had expected
I just completed rekeying two door locks and two deadbolts with this kit and I felt compelled to write review. Overall the kit does what it says it will do. I rekeyed a total of four locks and still had enough parts to do two more. Yes I was successful in rekeying the locks but as with any DIY project it was not as easy as I had expected. The most major problem I ran into was the cylinder removal tool was too wide to go into the lock and pop out the cylinder like it was supposed to. A few other people have mentioned this in reviews but most have not which leads me to believe that its some quality control issue and not every kit has this problem. If your tool does not slide in smoothly and you have to force it, go grind it down a little rather than forcing it in there and getting it stuck like I did. The other issue was the instructions. Do yourself a favor and skip the cryptic diagrams and basic instructions written in 5 different languages and go youtube "how to rekey a kwikset lock" you will find a video from the manufacture of this product (prime line) that walks you through it and is much clearer than the printed version. this product was not great but I did what I set out to do for way less money than I would have spent replacing the locks. With a little patience you can too!

Can't do 6 locks
Edit: I contacted the manufacturer, explained my situation and they sent me more pins for free. I can now update my review from a 2 to 5 stars. The set is good but I have a couple issues. First, it did not come with a tool to help remove Defiant round handles (Defiant and kwickset are interchangeable) These need a small round point and it only came with slot type tool. Second, and the worst part for me at least, the new keys it came with requires two of the same color pin for each key. This means I only have enough pins to rekey 3 locks instead of up to 6 it claims on the package. Now I need to make a purchase of a pin set that I shouldn't need. I will contact the manufacturer to see if they will ship them for free.

Does the job no issues encountered.

Good product, but I had to sand down the push rod so it fit the lock. Easy enough to do. I put it in a drill and used sandpaper while it was spinning. Finished with fine grit to make it smooth.

First off, I consider myself pretty handy and more than familiar with lock mechanics. When I needed to key 2 locks to match I figure this would be a good kit for the price and a few minutes of easy work vs paying a locksmith to rekey and get a key cut. The item arrived and the plastic bag it ships in was open so the contents had spilled into the larger shipping box with the other items. no biggie, just collect everything and move on. The kit contains everything to rekey up to 6* (more on this later) locks plus 3 keys. In my case I had the Kwikset kit but assume the others are roughly the same. There's a plastic follower tool (which is essential and almost worth the price of the kit - most people won't have one of these and its a tough job without), there's some other long metal tool I didn't need (maybe for releasing lock cylinders in door knobs?_ For reference I was working on 2 5-pin Kwikset mortice locks. Remove the existing lock from it's body, insert the existing key and rotate, remove the tail piece, push the core out with the follower tool (keeping the existing pins from falling out. Knock out all the existing pins, remove key, insert the new key, and drop in the new pins (they're provided in colour coded order) This is where I ran into some trouble: I noticed immediately that the pins were sitting slightly proud of the cylinder - they should be flush. This occurred on 3 of the 5 pins, and consequently the cylinder wouldn't fit back into the body. I ended up filing them down (they're brass so not a hard job), at which time they fit. I see other people have mentioned the same issue with pins being too tall so I suspect it's a widespread problem. However even after filing and reassembling the lock I couldn't remove the key. After disassembly, examination, reassembly, still no luck. Then I noticed that the very tip of the key was interfering with the tail piece. I filed about .75mm off the end of the bottom of the key and everything went back together and finally worked (30 minutes later) The second lock had the exact same problem with the same pins and keys but I was wiser for it. So, ultimately they did work but it was a lot more DIY than I was expecting in a kit like this. Finally - they shortchanged me 1 pin so really only got enough to do 5 locks. Quality control seems to be lacking here and I don't recommend this kit unless you're fairly comfortable/familiar with how locks work and don't mind doing some finishing work if required.

The pins I received are not colour coded, and as has been mentioned by others the pins are all only to re-key a lock for the keys included in the kit. That said I believe the price is worthwhile if not as a "beginner's first re-key kit" then for the tools alone, given they are somewhat pricey elsewhere.

These are hard to find locally. My local home depot and Canadian tire only sell the schlage kits. This kit contained 3 keys and all the pins you'd need to rekey your lock. The e-clip wrench was bad quality, luckily I already had a sparrows wrench. Pin tweezers were also horrible quality as expected with these kits
