Well easy setup, that is if you have any drives ...
Well easy setup, that is if you have any drives installed, ordered an 8GB system and it was diskless, should of had 4 -2TB drives. However Amazon as good as they are shipped another ASAP, it was configured with 2-4TB drives which is OK except it limits me to RAID0,1. I was expecting 4-2TB drives in an 8TB configuration to support RAID5,10 which is much more reliable than JBOD, RAID0,1. What does that mean? I will have to spend the extra almost $300 for WD Red 4TB drives for RAID5,10 but well worth the expenditure if you value your data. Very nice interface with dual supply inputs, aggregated 1G ports and USB3.0 x3. For the home User DLNA and Cloud support is nice also multiple user account for remote synch or local synch via USB of mobile phone pics, movies and docs into their own private directories. Migrating from a Seagate GOFlex 2TB setup which served its purpose but is also super limited to backup/restore and DLNA ops. If your on the fence on what to get I would move up into the EX4100 series as it is expandable to 32TB if I remember correct, recommendation spend the extra cash and get something usable in todays home computing and mobile/tablet market. BUY!!!

BE FOREWARNED ABOUT WD NAS BOXES -
VERY disgusted with WD whom I always liked as a manufacturer. I have a couple of EX4100 boxes that are stuffed with exclusively WD drives, so as I said, I was a WD advocate. Suddenly oneof the boxes said the fan is not working and in about an hour it shuts down due to overheating. So I decide that I'll just call WD and order a replacement since the fan itself is made under agreement that it cannot be sold other than to WD. I open a WD ticket asking how to order this, and I am informed by them that WD has no interest in repair outside of warranty. either by themselves or assisting the customer fix their own! WHAT?!?! They said "WD drives are manufactured using non-serviceable parts inside. Hence the drives are not serviced." Just to be clear, the translation of this is "Our products are not worth repairing - so we won't waste time on them." WHY in the world would I want to buy hardware that the manufacturer makes efforts to stop me from repairing outside of warranty? THIS IS CRAZY TALK. I thought all the complaining people on the forums were just whackos but this event showed me that they are correct...WD makes great drives....but absolutely TERRIBLE NAS boxes. So bad in fact that they themselves not only refuse to repair (irritating but understandable) but they actually make contractual efforts to stop their own customers from protecting WD products. Completely unacceptable. Everyone knows WD is the bottom of the industry in customer support but this indicates the NAS boxes are also the bottom of the world in product quality.

Only comes with 2 hard drives in the 4 bay 8TB model
Just got this on Friday, so I haven't given it much use yet, however the 4-bay 8TB version comes with 2x4TB WD Red drives, not 4x2TB drives that would allow RAID 5. It comes configured as RAID 1 and after adding the two new drives took quite a while to build the empty RAID 5 array (hours). If you're buying this for RAID 5, know that you'll automatically have to buy two extra drives right away. I am getting some errors while trying to copy some folders over from both an external drive and over the network, however that could be a problem with what I'm trying to copy and not the NAS unit.

Great centralized file storage and backup for our small office
This is the first network attached storage device in our small office environment. It is taking me a while to learn how best to use it. The most important trick is to download SmartWare from the Western Digital website and install that software on all the attached computers. I'm now using this to automatically back up three different Windows-10 based desktop machines and to create a central shared file storage area for files everyone needs access to. I'm struggled a bit with the learning curve, but that is because this is all new to me. I installed this right next to the office router and we are getting great performance.

Make sure you’ve planned correctly
Why 4 stars? Software sometimes has problems with storage view. Not enough problem to think about as only intermittent. My bigger issue was not being 100% on RAID I wanted. Only took a week before I bought 2 more drives. Now I have to RAIDs in the box. I should have started with all 4 drives and configured. That’s on me.

Bought a 4-bay RAID 5 8 TB NAS and got 2 4TB drives and mirroring only with 2 empty drive bays! WHY?!?
BEWARE!! Ordered the 8 TB 4-bay NAS expecting it to be populated with 4 2TB HDD for a RAID 5 configuration. (After all - 4 bays with 2 TB HDD would be 8 TB with 6TB usable in a RAID 5 configuration.) What did I get? 4-bay NAS with 2 4TB HDD in 2 drive bays!!! That gives me mirroring of 4 TB as the only protected option! If I wanted a 2-bay mirror configuration, I'd have bout the 2-bay NAS array and not the 4-bay!!! This is COMMON SENSE!!! So - I was forced to buy 2 more 4 TB HDD to round the NAS out to the RAID 5 config I originally wanted! The drive layout is never stated in the product description. There should be plainly stated info on the drive configuration when ordering!

Great Performance and Quiet
I love this server. The WD App lets me access any file or picture on my phone. Super quiet I do not even hear it unless the 5 second fan burst on start up. Got it to replace my HP Windows Home Media Server and so happy with it. Run RAID 5 and added a WD My Book as a safety back up.

It freezes
After updating to OS 5, it has become useless. It freezes and gets back to work only with unplugging the power cable and plugging it back and it works only for a few hours then goes frozen again. I have talked to tech support and they pretended like they have never had such issue and sent me some instruction which did not work at all. Then I searched internet and found out that this is an old issue going for years even for older OS and it depends how lucky you are to face this issue or not! So do not waste your money on this!

Feb.14.17 - Update I've been using this NAS for 10 months now and it has been a solid performer. Transfer speeds are very fast if you use a good router and cat 6 or 7 cables. I bought a few cat7 cables from a vendor here on Amazon and noticed an improvement in speed from my cat5 cables. Spending the few extra dollars was worth it to me. The only weak point I have about this NAS is that you cannot expand the memory, so if you plan on buying a NAS to use as a media-server, you might want to consider a device with more memory and/or one that allows you to add additional memory. I have Plex installed on this NAS and have used it and, for the most part, it works fine. I have noticed that it has difficulty (at times) maintaining picture quality - as in you get a spinning wheel and have to wait a moment. There is a possibility the problem is/was associated with my Chrome Cast device and the NAS wasn't to blame. However, because I have Plex installed on another PC (also used as a media server) and haven't experienced the same problem casting from it, I suspect the problem is associated with the NAS being a little under-powered for some intense jobs. I am still very happy with this NAS and would not have a problem recommending it to friends. End review update ---------------------------- I did a lot of research before finally deciding to purchase this device and, after having used it for a few days, I am very satisfied with my purchase. This is an 8 TB unit with 2*4TB drives, which means two drive bays are empty. That might be a sore point for some people, but it was the exact configuration I wanted because it allowed me to install 2 additional drives to increase the storage capacity. The primary purpose of this NAS is to provide a backup location for the Apple & Window computers I have. I therefore did not use a RAID configuration - JBOD only. Installation and setup was very easy and straight forward; simple enough for a novice to accomplish without too much trouble and/or spending a lot of time trying to do it and getting frustrated. Now, having said that, I was not initially pleased with the read/write speed during initial testing. It was so slow that transferring a large file would have taken hours, not minutes as would be expected on a Gigabit network. I knew it wasn't a (NAS) hardware problem and, after reviewing the configuration, I knew if must be something to do with my network - how I connected the NAS to the network. The problem was resolved by changing the network cable(s) and the switch/router. Now the transfer rate is fast, very fast! Software: I've read some reviews where people complain about the interface and/or functionality. Is it the best? Probably not! Is it easy to set up and use, and does it do the job? Definitely! One important criteria for me was the ability to use Apple's TimeMachine without having to jump through hoops. All I can say it that it works right out of the box - period! There is also software to do real-time backup of specified folders, for example your Documents, and you can define the number of versions to retain. I have not implemented this yet, but may in the future. If you are familiar with a product called Genie Timeline, then you should be happy with this functionality. I would definitely recommend the WD My Cloud to anyone looking for a NAS that provides a reliable storage solution with room for growth at a reasonable price.

Llego antes de lo estimado y bien empaquetado. El equipo funciona sin problemas y es muy sencillo de configurar y administrar, aunque requiere accesos a internet para poderlo configurar de manera local.

The item was not shipped as displayed. Only 2 of the 4 ports have a NAS Hard Drive. Port 1 start out with blue underneath but once it appears to be fully loaded it becomes red underneath. Port 2 sets up fine and stays blue underneath. Ports 3 and 4 are empty and did not come with WD Red Hard Drive. A message appears to say that port 1 is degraded. Capacity is identified as 3.90 TB Free. The message says the Drive Status for port 2 is healthy. I have been able to set up a WD MY CLOUD account on the internet.

I order this unit and received it quickly. However, the item description on the Amazon site is misleading - it shows as "NAS server - 8 TB - HDD 2 TB x 4 - RAID 0, 1, 5, 10, JBOD, 5 hot spare - Gigabit Ethernet - iSCSI" but the unit does not contain 2TBx4 drives, it has 2x4TB drives. There are 8TB in total but across only two drives not four. As shipped the unit can only support basic RAID. You need to buy 2 additional drives in order to support RAID 10. The image is also a bit misleading - is shows four illuminated drive bays but the unit only ships with two bays populated. that being said, the unit started, configured and upgraded the firmware very quickly and minimal fuss. It seems to operate perfectly and looks feature-laden. I have ordered the additional two hot-swap WD RED drives to fill the other two bays.
