For the most part, the lifetime of a single battery is decent. Better than the last brand I bought. I would buy this brand again

Can the internal cr1/3n battery be removed and replaced, or do you have to replace the entire unit?

For the pet collars that I own, this is the only battery that powers them. I do not understand your question about an internal battery. These batteries are replaced from the outside of the collar (externally). I use a the edge of a dime if I cannot find the removal tool that came with the collar. I do not bother to turn the collars or remove the battery. They seem to last about 6 weeks.
