Finally have wireless CarPlay in my 2014 Audi A5. Product works as described. Installation is easy, but requires some patience. I recommend testing the unit before putting everything back together. Getting the dip switches correct can be a little tricky (on position is not intuitive, but easily corrected). Downside is volume and AC temps are no longer overlayed on the screen, but that's a small price for having CarPlay. All tools and connectors are included. Amazon recommended pull tools and aux "pig tail" dummy connector. Both of these are included with the product. Instructions are sparse and challenging to interpret (in Chinese? and poorly formed English). Regardless the connections are intuitive, and with patience installation is a breeze. Mind the gear shift. It's easy to damage if one is not careful.

I’m very impressed by the quality of this product. I had been using a Bluetooth dongle for years (since Audi failed to retrofit Bluetooth Audio to the MMI for 2012, as promised at the time of purchase). The dongle was unreliable. The Carlinkit has been outstanding for the past month or so. Sound quality via wireless is excellent. All the functions work as advertised and once Waze was updated to use the split screen, its been great. Two minor issues - every now and then, maps will freeze (the display). Not sure why. Has happened 2-3 times only. The other issue is that my iPhone with iOS14 does not always connect automatically to the unit Apple’s CarPlay. As I understand it, once the car is turned on, the phone should sense the Bluetooth connection on the Carlinkit and then activate CarPlay on the unit. That works about 50 percent of the time. The rest of the time I need to go into Bluetooth settings, find the device for the CarPlay, turn it on and wait a bit for the connection to be established. Not sure why it doesn’t work all the time. If there is some firmware update for the device that could fix this, I would say the unit is perfect. The other function that I’d like to see added is the ability to stream or connect from more than one iPhone at a time, so that someone else in the car could play music to the Carlinkit. Not a biggie but would be nice to have. But for the money, it is amazing.

I got this for my 2012 Audi Q5 Premium Plus S-line with MMI. I wish I had instead spent $900-$1200 for a higher quality one installed by a pro. That would've also come with a touch-screen. This Carlinkit uses bluetooth to connect to my cellphone so that I can have Apple Carplay. It displays this on my car's original non-touch screen. Everything in Carlinkit and Carplay is controlled using the car's original buttons & dial. I wouldn't want to lose that functionality, but I have a 2019 car with factory touch-Carplay, and touch is way better. Imagine going from a modern iPhone to a 2002 Nokea, and trying to use modern apps with it. That's what Carplay with analog controls is like. It works, but it is awful. This Carlinkit also has an odd assortment of other features that any car with a modern head unit wouldn't have, such as screen mirroring. Not a complaint, just an observation. You could watch Netflix on your car's screen while driving, but that's probably not advisable. I haven't tested the Android version of Carplay, but it has that too. I almost gave it two stars because of the "Pros" list below but there are just too many cons. Also, I got the impression that the sellers may have literally custom-built this for me. Which is admirable, but also annoying. I was tempted to give them a good review to support them, but I think it's more important to save others from my mistake. That said, the Carlinkit does work (enough) and I use it daily. I plan to keep it because returning would be a nightmare. I would celebrate if it were to break though, and then go buy a good one. If you can afford higher-quality, you should. Pros: -Installation was very easy -Way cheaper than alternatives -It comes with all needed tools and instructions (too bad you need tools before it arrives...) -It does not remove or interfere with any original features of the car. Cons: -Weak bluetooth; phone has to be right next to unit. If the phone is even as far as the cupholders, the music chops and display & inputs lag. Won't work at all with phone in your pocket. -Bluetooth rarely auto-connects. Maybe once in 10 times it works. Which means every time I drive I have to pull out my phone and go into settings>bluetooth>manual connect. This takes ~20 seconds, is annoying to have to do every time, and approx every 5th time it will refuse to connect anyway and I have to reset the unit. So now I'm in the habit of holding the reset button (Navigation button) every time I get in the car. Which means I don't even bother if the trip is less than 15 minutes. -Finally, dealing with the sellers. If I waste my money, that's my problem. If you're worried about it, then put warnings in your product page, and don't allow returns. Instead, they sent me a bunch of questions which were hard to understand because they were translated. And I didn't even know they were messaging me for the first month because there's no notification from Amazon for those messages. I just happened to look through my spam email. When I eventually replied, they asked more questions. I suspect they were delaying because they didn't actually have the product to send me yet, or they were literally still building it. Every time I answered a question about my car, they asked another. Then they made me take apart my dash and SEND THEM PICTURES to make sure it would work. After two months I wanted to scream: JUST SEND ME THE DAMN THING. If it doesn't work because I failed to read directions, then I lose $300 and it's not your problem. It took three months to arrive when it was supposed to take three weeks. So, don't cheap out if you can afford better. If you go something installed professionally at a shop, it will only take a day, maybe two. It will use touchscreen and be reliable. All you’ll have to do is get in, start your car, leave your phone in your pocket, and use the touchscreen. If that costs too much, use a phone mount instead of this.

Very surprised, works better than expected. My comments are specific to the B8.5 gen S4 and CarPlay. I read a good bit in advance about similar (identical?) devices sold by other vendors so I had some tips ahead of time. The unit came with what appears to be the latest firmware installed and included the needed tools and aux adapter. -The steering wheel controls do work with CarPlay as does the main volume/forward-back knob - I dropped the glove compartment so I could run the USB cable to it, this also helped me install the new Bluetooth antenna inside the trim panel to the right of the factory head unit - I used several zip ties to tidy the wiring and wrapped the new wires and connectors in felt/cloth tape - I used double sided tape to mount the new control unit behind the HVAC panel - Getting all the wires and adapters crammed in behind the head unit was a little tricky but with some effort to spread them out it wasn't bad - There are some extra connectors that didn't apply to my car, be ready for that - All connectors were plug and play, no splicing - The installed firmware was newer than the box indicated So far, very pleased.

2014 Audi Q5 Installation went exactly as YouTube videos laid out Removing radio and climate controls simple. Use towel to prevent scratches from shifting knob. Wires intimidating but simple to connect/disconnect. If have difficulty need to learn correct method. Don’t force. AirPlay- works great with iPhone camera videos, and some apps, will not work with major streaming services. Netflix, Disney+, prime video, Hulu, iTunes video will play sound no video. :( for apps that work screen mirroring works where AirPlay fails (photos) can get around this thru HDMI feature. Phone calls - I noticed echo as well. Answering call green icon not working but red hang up icon works fine. Strange. Have to answer from phone. A bit annoying but Workable. Siri - works great Music - no issues Wireless CarPlay- no issues Wired CarPlay - no issues SXM - got hung up couple times but otherwise works great HDMI input - works PERFECT Camera video input - not used, unable to comment Audi MMI cable included however, initially, when I got everything working I tried to use DVD player (which worked fine) but the car then turned off the external audio input. (Initially worked fine.) Car no longer recognized MMI cable in glove compartment. changed cables to no avail. Eventually got into “green screen” settings in Audi, turned external audio input back on, and has worked ever since. .. This was an expensive fix as I had to purchase a device to enable “green screen” access. Apparently my car had it deactivated. Was on verge of returning but I enjoy tinkering. Overall two months in works almost perfectly. Was a bit frustrating to find out some limitations. however I am happy and was able to get everything I wanted in the end. Also, Seems appropriate to limit video while driving.

INSTALLATION - Installed this in my 2015 Audi Q5 tdi. The first time took about 30 minutes since I was very careful with some of the harness clips, wire location and just being diligent in reviewing YouTube videos to avoid costly mistakes. In the end it turned-out to be pretty easy and I can now uninstall this in just a few minutes, which I tend to do when taking the car to the dealer. Reinstallation is a bit more involved since the space behind the climate control is quite limited and the device isn't a perfect fit. VALUE-ADD - In terms of value, this little thing is incredible. Wireless Apple CarPlay in a 2015 Audi!? ... even newer models didn't offer CarPlay until recently and many 2022 models still don't offer it wirelessly. Add a wireless charger somewhere and you may reduce your urge to buy a new and expensive car just to get up-to-date cellphone implementation. MINOR QUIRKS - There are a few challenges with this product, which is completely expected since this is not built by the manufacturer. For example, switching phones between different drivers isn't entirely seamless and you may have to jump into some menus to activate the other phone. There isn't much of an instruction being provided on detailed menu items, so a bit of tinkering might be necessary, even if you are technically inclined. AUDIO QUALITY - Yes, wireless Bluetooth isn't the ideal way to get top quality music out of your car, but it sure is convenient. As it turned-out I am perfectly happy with the sound quality (after adding a sub with amp) and cannot hear the difference between wired (which is also provided) and wireless. I am also unable to tell the difference between the device being installed versus not, as long as I don't adjust the equalizer settings in the device. Having the additional equalizer available is an additional bonus to fine-tune the sound but it might be worth pointing-out the following caution... CAUTION (my opinion) - I would recommend not increase the gain on the different equalizer channels. While it is great that this device actually provides an equalizer, I would not over-boost the system to squeak-out more volume, especially for the Bose system. Instead I fine-tune my frequencies by lowering some. Sure this reduces the overall volume but that's not what I am after anyway. This is mostly out of abundance of caution as I don't expect this additional device to improve the signal and a bad signal, especially if boosted beyond what the system was designed for, may ruin your speakers and other audio components. OTHER FUNCTIONALITY - The device changes your menus in the dash information panel. This is probably the weakest part of the implementation since it is quite difficult to understand how to switch between the different options (AVG fuel, AVG speed, distance, tach, etc.) or between short-term (1) and long-term (2) metrics. I did find an option that I like and mostly leave it there, so not a big deal for me. One other thing to point-out is that the steering wheel "track up and down" button will change the info menu and you have to somehow navigate back to what it was before. So I am avoiding changing tracks using the steering wheel and rather do it on my phone directly (mounted in the CD slot), or the knob in the center console. Works just fine for me but may not be perfect for others. SUMMARY - This is exactly what I had hoped it would be for a fair price. Sure beats an aftermarket system installation for thousands of dollars and it's easily removable if needed. I would probably not recommend this product to someone who would be uncomfortable performing the relatively simple install themselves, or doesn't enjoy doing basic troubleshooting on electronic devices. I am also not sure about what impact installing this product has on your infotainment warranty if you still have it. Hope this helps. After watching several youtube videos, I had the courage to attempt to install this unit in my 2012 Audi S5 myself. The kit came with all the required parts and tools to remove my head unit. Everything was plug-in-play. Instructions were minimal but the youtube research I did made the whole thing go smooth (less than an hour). Hardest part was trying to fit all the cables back into the small space behind my dash. That part took the longest. Carplay now works wirelessly or plugged in via usb. Charges my iphone when plugged in. google maps, phone calls, text messages dictated w/ siri, ipod music..all works smooth. Very pleased with this purchase.

I can divide my review in 2 parts: good news and bad news. GOOD NEWS 1. It is a great product. Adding wireless Android Auto, Apple Carplay and a good quality rear camera was an amazing upgrade to my 2014 Audi Q3. 2. Even if my OEM screen resolution is not good, this product has a good resolution to run both systems. 3. Sound quality is also good. 4. Rear camera image is great even on dark places. 5. Even if my car does not have touchscreen, it works pretty fine using the car original knob and buttons. BAD NEWS 1 - It was really challenging to install. The instructions manual is really hard to understand and there is a crucial missing part that is connecting the system to the CAN system of the car behind the Air Conditioner module, I really recommend that you look for a professional to help you install it and tell him about the missing CAN connection on the instructions manual. I only knew about this when I read a review here on Amazon. 2 - Even if all my questions were answered, it was really challenging because of timezones. I am in Brazil (11 hours behind) and it is impossible to get support during the day. If you have any trouble during the installation process, you will need to wait up to the next day to receive your answer/ guidance. I hope you don't need it! 3 - There is no instructions about how to use settings menu. I had to figure it out by myself. 4 - On the Android Auto I had to learn how to use the car original buttons. You will need to figure it out how it works... Conclusion: I don't regret buying this product, but in my opinion ,it is safer to buy it from a local professional sound shop where they already know how to install it, how it works etc. I guess I would not choose to have this challenging installation process again.
