The scent is absolutely gorgeous, had me thinking of raisins and pipe tobacco. Leaf is small, deep black. Given the infuser spoon fail yesterday, I brewed in a pot: 1 tsp./8 oz., 190F @3 minutes. Actual suggested brewing time is 212F @3-5 minutes. The result is a classic black tea, rich and it definitely kept the fruity note. I would have no trouble brewing this one stronger with a bit more leaf-to-water ratio at a longer steep. As I wanted a second cup, I did just that, adding a half teaspoon to the leaves from the previous steep to 8 oz. boiling water steeped for four minutes, just to see what it would do. It did just fine. If you like your tea with milk and sugar, go for the higher temperature and longer steep, because it can stand up to it. Boiling does bring out a little bitterness under these conditions, but only a little, and you still get the fruity scent and flavor. Each tea came in a dark green cardboard box containing a vacuum sealed aluminum lined bag of tea, a mylar zip lock bag to decant it into for freshness, a label to put on the mylar bag - with the name of the tea, since of course you bought more than one, and brewing instructions for the best results. Also included are a glossy little pamphlet about the company (again with brewing suggestions), and a 10% off next purchase card. Not to mention Inspirational Tea Quotes printed inside the box. The Vahdam Assam Exotic Summer Black Tea is a truly amazing tea that is both strong and subtle. The malty taste lingers in your mouth, and with every exhale the aroma is delightful. As I was researching strong teas, reviewers recommended CTC Assam teas. I tried them, but they lacked the layers of taste and flavor of the Assam Exotic. I think this tea actually seems stronger, and it is certainly more delicious. Perhaps it was not a sledge hammer strength tea that I was looking for but a complicated and layered tea. I have found it. Additional views: I truly appreciate the minimalist packaging in which Vahdam ships their teas, and the shrink wrap assures freshness. Another way freshness is assured involves the teas' storage bags. They are small, dark and thick; and they have the best freshness seal that I have ever seen in any packaging of any product. The seller readily sent me a second order as the first one had some minor issues , although the tea was far better Assam second flush tea considered to one I bought from two other dealers. The tea I got yesterday -8/16/19 - was of superb quality. Exceptional in flavor and freshness . It was packed air tight. Also the presentation and the care of putting the package together was more than ordinary. I had been a tea drinker all my life. Growing up in a state with tea estates I had the luxury of able to go to the factory and get top quality teas. Had been buying loose black teas from different sellers looking the tea me and my family enjoyed before I left my home town. Vahdam Assam second flush Enigma tea come close to what I had been looking for. Will definitely reorder the same.Am sure other buyers may have different tastes. I usually drink Yorkshire Gold to start my mornings, but I wanted to find a decent loose leaf assam to start my day when I’m feeling more than a tea bag, but not something as refined as hong cha or as robust as shou pu-erh. This tea is the answer to that. It’s a perfect blend of opulence and utilitarian. First go at it was gong fu style and it held up very well through multiple infusions. Has the boldness I want in a morning cup of assam, yet with the rich, maltiness that brings it to another level. Obviously great with a basket as well if just want a mug of this stuff without the ritual of gong fu. Highly recommend!

Good example of a great product that could gain a greater market with a little work. From a deeply interesting company that could do a far better job of providing a deeper story (which it certainly has) and product use (which generally it does not). Good quality loose leaf tea is selling slightly better in the Americas in the past decade but it still is a bit of mystery how to prepare correctly for most. Boiling, off-boil, near boil... rinse in cold water,cover/not cover pot...how much per cup of water would likely have a major impact on sales. And expanding the current story of organic and supporting communities to the far longer history of the company related to tea in India would create a marketing narrative that would stand out against the common "organic" noise. Prep (if curious) - heat water to 190f and place some in the cup to warm. Toss the water and add to a cup sieve (not a ball... not enough room to brew) with a scant teaspoon of tea to 8oz of water (190). Cover and wait 2 minutes, remove the leaves. Unlike most Chinese tea I find that the second infusion is far inferior (the opposite is often true of good quality China varietals ) and not worth the efforts. If you are going to add milk and such increase to a fuller teaspoon and 3 minutes.

Assam ist eindeutig meine lieblings Sorte von Tee. Als ich diesen Tee das erste mal probiert habe war ich echt skeptisch und eher nicht so erfreut über den Malzigen Geschmack im Tee, doch desto öfter ich diesen Tee trinke, desto leckerer ist er, es ist eben auch ein kleines Abenteuer mal etwas neues auszuprobieren um danach wirkilich seinen Meinung darüber äussern zu können. Der Tee ist sehr Qualitativ und sehr lecker. Die Sorten die ich von VAHDAM Tee probiert habe kann ich nur empfehlen. Wem Qualität wichtig ist, der ist bei VAHDAM an der richtigen Adresse.
