A visually engaging introduction to landscape architectural design Landscape architectural design seeks to create environments that accommodate users' varying lifestyles and needs, incorporate cultural heritage, promote sustainability, and integrate functional requirements for optimal enjoyment. Foundations of Landscape Architecture introduces the foundational concepts needed to effectively integrate space and form in landscape design. With over five hundred hand-rendered and digital drawings, as well as photographs, Foundations of Landscape Architecture illustrates the importance of spatial language. It introduces concepts, typologies, and rudimentary principles of form and space. Including designs for projects such as parks, campuses, and memorials, this text provides the core concepts necessary for designers to shape functional landscapes. Additionally, chapters discuss organizational and spatial design structures based on orthogonal forms, angular forms, and circular forms. Helping students, professionals, and lifelong learners alike, Foundations of Landscape Architecture delivers a concrete understanding of landscape architectural design to inspire one's imagination for countless types of projects. Review: A great foundational course, even for laymen! - I'm building a home and was looking to hire a landscape architect. But like when I'm making an investment in lots of things, I wanted the prevervial 101 level course to bring me up to speed for the venture. This book has no glossy color pictures of beautiful landscapes. It's all about landscape theory, but it did the job superbly. I'm getting along with my landscape architect wonderfully. I believe the book would have served me well if I'd decided to design the landscape myself. Review: Essential reading for LA students - Foundations of Landscape Architecture is an indispensable book. I'm still studying it but I feel very lucky to have "discovered" it. Essential for Landscaping Architecture students! (as myself). It's only regrettable it has not been translated to portuguese yet (I'm from Brazil). Fortunately I have a long familiarity with english, which doesn't happen to my classmates...

Love it!
A true masterpiece...Impressive.... Booth has produced an exceptionally important book that effectively describes design principles from the most fundamental stages of the design process. With a multitude of example drawings, one is able to truly assimilate what's being presented. Highly readable, it is distinguished by its ability to describe and evoke landscape design principles in vivid detail. I would categorize it as one of the most important books I own. Again, Impressive!

Wow!
If you like thinking about the theory and application of form design, this is a great book in my opinion. In depth consideration of how to use line, diagonal, circle, square, triangle, and so forth in landscape designing. Set forth clearly in the text and reinforced with graphic diagrams and examples of application in prominent landscape designs.

Excellent Reference
The author is the same co-author of Residential Landscape Design. It's required reading in many colleges and universities for a reason. This new book expands on the first and is, as is Residential Landscape Design, very well written. It's easy to understand with no jargon and gets to the point. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the landscape design field and any budding home enthusiast. As a matter of fact, there are many contractors in our area that build projects without any real design background. If this is you, buy this book and learn from it. You'll be doing yourself a favor.
