TUG Original Retractable Dog Leash, 16 ft (Small, Blue)

This was my second purchase of the same model. The medium still works well a year later after daily use with a 40lb, 3y/o mixed breed. The retractor has begun to fail after 12 months, which is a similar pattern to the first one I bought, but it has been reliable up to this point. It is also very comfortable to hold, even on half-day outings. Actually, I still have the first one, which is solid despite weak and often ineffectual retraction efforts, just in case I needed an emergency backup. She sometimes tries to carry the end in a cute message for me to hurry up (I use the extension) in her mouth, but it shows no wear. She does not try to chew it, but her teeth are in contact at times and I was worried about fraying. She sometimes walks at the end of the leash when she is in a loose leash mode, occasionally pulling. We are working on that! When using the first one of the two, she would run it out often when still new to us (~1y/o 30#), but that has diminished to almost never with training. Still, the first one also last a year even with that abuse. I will buy a third because the first two kept her safe for two years now and so I trust them. We travel often in a travel trailer and leash laws prevail, having physical backup to oral commands has been reassuring to both me and many around me. Up until it has begin to fail (the last 2' do not retract now), it operated seamlessly and reliable in all kinds of weather for about the same amount of time. I have used a large carabiner to attack a pouch of bags to the narrowest part of the handle and that has been working for over a year. One extension (which as included) also lasted as long as the leash, as did the snap hooks on the ends, and with no failures. I am giving 5 stars because of the continuous reliability in a critical mission. Yes, I wish it lasted two years or five, but this is the only thing I have found to wish was improve and that is not worth subtracting a star. At this point, I am simply considering the leash to be an excellent and proven tool that simply needs annual replacement.

This was purchased for a 15- 20 lb puppy. It worked great. Just the right size of leash and the handle was very comfortable. It retracted well and held a position when you locked it in. I did by mistake one time grab a hold of the leash when she was running and the material did lightly slice my fingers. So you do have to be careful with that action. The only thing that others may choose to have on their leash is some way to connect a "poop bag". I would highly recommend this leash and buy it again if needed.

I have a big dog (95 lbs Chocolate Lab) and I wanted to try a retractable leash because I wanted to be able to let her go a little farther ahead or to the side to sniff. My boyfriend has one for his little dog and she loves it. Obviously though my biggest concern was that I have a big dog whose really strong and I was worried that maybe the leash wouldn’t be strong enough. So after some research I felt good about trying this one and it did not disappoint. She absolutely loves having the extra reach to sniff new spots she hasn’t been able to before and that in turn makes me very happy! Holding the leash you can feel how sturdy it was made. I feel super confident walking her with this leash. It had the option to hold the leash at a shorter length. You can pause at that length or put it in lock if you wanted to have that length for the whole walk or a longer part of it. There is not a bag holder for it but that isn’t a problem for me because I just tie them to the leash or I put it in my pocket. This will definitely be replacing her old leashes! I love it, and would definitely recommend!!!

We have a 65 lb dog. The first Tug we ordered was 10/29/2025. Loved the design and the way the leash worked. Lately the ratchet system has been catching, locking and making noises. We just ordered another one 8/4/2026 because we really like it, just a great leash. Just wish it would have lasted longer than 9 months.

Length works great for having my corgi. Retracts great, no problem. Built great and is sturdy. My dog has been safe and is controllable with this leash.

This is a well built leash. Smooth pull of the lead and is going to last a long while. Great for big dogs. Will highly recommend to friends and family with fur babies.

After 3 years of use with a 65 pund poodle, I had to come back and write a good review. This is a sturdy and durable leash. For example, before this we'd order a new retractable leash from happy and polly every year, because the leash would snap or something would break internally. This TUG brans has given us zero issues and there are no signs of bad reliability yet. It is comfortable to grab too, perhaps a bit big for smaller hands (if your kids walk the dog for example). I like that it never gets stuck or tangled. Somehow the retracting untangles the leash.

UPDATE (from 2 to 5 stars): I emailed to their support and got a replacement in 3 days. Original review: It was good. Until it broke. It lasted exactly 7 months. Before that it was convenient to use.

Depuis deux ans, j'utilise la laisse flexi et j'en suis pleinement satisfait. Cependant, étant donné que le modèle que je possédais était trop petit, il ne me permettait pas d'insérer l'ensemble de mes doigts en raison de l'épaisseur de mes gants d'hiver. De plus, la corde fine s'emmêlait parfois dans les pattes des autres chiens, risquant de les blesser. C'est pourquoi j'ai décidé de passer à un modèle plus grand avec une corde plus large. À l'ouverture du colis, mon impression a été très positive. La boîte contenant la laisse enrouleur ainsi qu'un mousqueton supplémentaire est élégante. La coque de la laisse respire la qualité, et sa couleur est véritablement noire, contrairement à celle de la flexi, qui, bien qu'annoncée noire, est en réalité marron foncé. Le mousqueton est pratique, et le cordon est solide. Le système permettant de bloquer ou dérouler le cordon est suffisamment spacieux pour être manipulé facilement avec des gros gants, ce qui constitue un véritable atout. Le grip du TUG assure une excellente prise contrairement au flexi qui m'a échappé plusieurs fois des mains. Bien que le poids du modèle plus grand soit légèrement plus élevé que l'équivalent en flexi, je suis extrêmement satisfait de mon achat, tant sur le plan esthétique que pratique. C'est un produit robuste, et en prime, son tarif est plus avantageux que celui de son homologue. Reste à voir comment le mécanisme résistera à une utilisation prolongée, mais cela ne semble pas être un problème étant donné la qualité de fabrication et la solidité apparente du produit. J'ai acheté ce produit en janvier, et depuis septembre, la laisse s'enroule difficilement jusqu'à aujourd'hui, où elle ne s'enroule plus du tout ! Déçu donc de cette marque qui manque cruellement de longévité. En effet, neuf mois me semble un peu court. Je vais donc m'orienter vers une autre marque.

Wir haben für unseren jungen Welpen eine flexible Hundeleine gesucht, die der Kleinen eine gewisse Freiheit ermöglicht. 5 Meter sind für unseren Welpen ideal. Die Leine verheddert sich - im Gegenteil zu anderen Leinen auch wirklich nicht. Können wir sehr empfehlen. Ein kleiner Punktabzug, da es die Leine nicht in einer längeren Version gibt, also z.B. mit 8 oder 10 Meter.
