Is my math wrong? at 5:1, it makes 80 12-oz serving and each is more than $1.00... making it more expensive than buying them in aluminum cans?

Sorry, I think your math is wrong. The ratio is correct but that doesn't give you final drink volume. At 5:1 water to syrup, that results in a final beverage volume of 6x the original syrup volume. So 2.5 gal of syrup would make 15 gal of drinkable beverage. Converting and dividing you get twice as many - 160 cans. For the current price, it seems like a good deal - much less than $1.00 per 12-oz serving.

What would happen if I just straight drink this?

Diabetes. Diabetes would happen.

what connector do i need?

A coca cola adapter they are on Amazon too for like 15. For future reference get the adapter for the brand because different brands use different adapters

Can you take the bags out of the box to save on storage ?
