Leading Little Ones to God: A Child's Book of Bible Teachings Review: Excellent book for teaching small children basic doctrine - I don't remember exactly why I purchased this book, but I'm glad I did! It can be very difficult to explain difficult doctrine to adults, much less small children, but it is no less important. All believers need to know what they believe and why. Once you realize that, it can be hard to know where to begin. I use Starr Meade's book, 'Teaching Hearts, Training Minds' which is a catechism devotional book. Leading Little Ones to God is a very nice addition to my children's daily teaching because while it is geared towards smaller children, older ones can also benefit from an alternate look at the same concepts. This book is not a catechism book, but it still follows the Westminster Shorter Catechism's explanation of Christian doctrine. So, instead of asking a question and giving an answer, the concepts are presented in a conversational fashion. While I do agree with one reviewer who balked at certain word choices like 'happy', if the adult will read the material first, those words can be substituted with more appropriate ones. In other words, it shouldn't be a deal breaker. I've also found that some of the Scripture readings at the end of the section aren't the best ones. Again, with a little prep work, the adult, using their own Bible concordance, can find Scriptures that relate to the section a little better and use the same verbiage. This is a good thing because you are studying right along with your children. Moving along. The questions after each reading are great and while not always terribly thought-provoking, ensure the child/children were listening and grasp the main concepts. The hymns are strange to me because I only know the tune of a few of them. We usually skip them or sing the ones we know that speak of the same things. If I were really on top of my game, I would use iTunes or something to play the song. So honestly, the only thing I don't like is that I think that in certain sections, there are better memory verses and Scriptures that could be used to drive home the point. We also use the Hide'em in Your Heart music CDs and some of those verses are in this book too, so that makes it easier. In short, there are so many options out there to systematically and logically teach young children key Biblical doctrines. I've found this to be one of the best for young children because you don't have to spend time stopping and explaining things or substituting difficult vocabulary. This sometimes happens when the children are of different ages. My five year old really enjoys this book because she understands the way the material is presented and she is able to answer the questions. Ultimately, we as parents are commanded to train our children and bring them up in the ways of the Lord. To do this in a haphazard or inconsistent manner can be disastrous. This book is a wonderful tool to lay a solid Biblical foundation for your children. Review: Excellent - I love this book! I read it to my kids when they were little. Now I give it to young moms so they can read to their kids. It’s easy to understand and the readings are short enough for little attention spans. Start early hiding God’s word in their hearts!

The most thorough book for leading littles ones through the plan of salvation
Some have commented that this book doesn't speak to our sinful nature and they don't want to have to sit with their children and clarify things they read. This is not supposed to be a book kids pick up on their own. You are more than welcome to add commentary as you teach, I often do. If possible, I relate it to something that my children know/understand/have been through-to make it even more personal. This is by far one of the best books out there for describing our just and perfect God, sinful man, and Jesus our Savior, "everything" you need to bring the Gospel to your littles. As another commented, it stinks that you have to buy her song book as well, which I didn't even know existed. I'd be happy with a CD of the songs. However, I go on Youtube, and when I can't find her songs, I get one with the same/similar message. If you want to go straight to God's word anther option is The Child Training Bible. Or the Virtue Training Bible. Both are a list of verses based on topics. You add colored coded tabs to whatever Bible you desire, marking specific Bible verses to use for certain topics. Awesome resources, though the actual Gospel presentation is much shorter.[...] Someone mentioned that A Child's Book of Character Building is better, BUT it does NOT go through the plan of salvation as Leading Little Ones to God does, but rather helps teach and train in proper actions/responses for living a Christian life. Another mentioned that the lessons were too long. They may be long for some kindergartners. Mine have done pretty well. Maybe that's because we always do a youtube video afterward. I don't know. BUT if you want a book for REALLY little ones, Everything A Child Should Know About God has EXTREMELY short lessons that should satisfy your preschooler/kindergartner. They are seriously REALLY short, 2-4 sentences tops for each lesson/page.

Mostly helpful devotional and uses the King James Bible!
Many devotionals today tend to be shallow and overly simplified, often using modern Bible versions that are based on faulty manuscripts. One strength of this devotional is its commitment to the King James Bible and its effort to present doctrinal truths in a way that children can understand. That said, no devotional is without its shortcomings. In this case, some lessons could do more to clearly point children to Christ, and there are missed opportunities to present the gospel more fully. The author’s Calvinist perspective is also troublesome and evident in several entries, and there are theological points—such as a body/soul only view of man, that may not align with all readers’ convictions. Additionally, some word choices, like using “punished” instead of terms like “disciplined” or “trained up”. Overall, this is a helpful resource but I would encourage parents to read each lesson ahead of time to clarify doctrinal issues and consider adding in more questions and KJV Scripture verses that highlight Christ and the message of salvation.

Mi hijo realmente se interesó con este libro, y aunque cada sección o capítulo es largo, me sorprendió que mi esposa se lo lee cada noche y mi hijo si pone atención y no se aburre o desespera.

I read this book to all my young children, and my copy had fallen apart. I gave this new copy to my grandchildren, hoping they will enjoy it as much as I did.

Good book to do daily devotions with my 6yr old. Written in plain English, so easy to understand. The questions at the end of each reading is good to create an atmosphere of thought around the Word. The hymn at the end of each reading is old English and we have a giggle reading them out loud.

I use this book in our home school curriculum. It is so wonderfully written for children and has the bible story from creation, through the gospel to end times clearly explained in an easy to understand way that children can really grasp. Has a daily reading with bible verses to learn, lovely pictures, hymns to sing and a little prayer for each day. A really lovely way to share the truth of God’s word with children.
