The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will induct Dire Straits in April, honoring the legendary bandโs incredible musical legacy Rhino will kick off the celebration early with a career spanning boxed set โThe Studio Albums 1978-1991.โ-Formed in 1977, Dire Straits, led by Mark Knopfler, were one of the iconic groups of the late 20th Century. THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1978 โ 1991 brings together all six of the bandโs studio albums. - DIRE STRAITS (1978)- COMMUNIQUE (1979)- MAKING MOVIES (1980)- LOVE OVER GOLD (1982)- BROTHERS IN ARMS (1985)- ON EVERY STREET (1991) -All albums have been re-mastered, with all original artwork restored, the six albums are packed in a handsome box set slipcase. Review: Good music, great price - If your a fan of the band then if you know you know Review: If you ever owned or currently own the vinyl, these will still be worth it. - This is a difficult review for me to write as I rarely recommend backing up your collection, but this is worth the money. I had all of the Dire Straits LPs except Communique (don't remember what happened to it). Because their music is some of the best I have ever listened to, I have played them many, many times since they were purchased. I also have Brothers in Arms and On Every Street in CD. Brothers in Arms because it has an intro to Your Latest Trick that the LP didn't and On Every Street because it came out on CD before it was made into an LP. So, now comes along some company and says they are going to release all the albums on vinyl....4 years ago. It was a pre-order so long that I actually had another merchant drop my pre-order believing it would never be done. Well, next thing I know, it shows up as a pre-order from Rhino. I went back on the list. Glory be! They said they would be shipping soon. So I waited....and it was worth the wait. When the set arrived, I carefully listened to every one of the LPs to see how close to the original they were. Spot on and better! The sound quality matched the originals and, in some spots was better...and the intro to Your Latest Trick was there. The slip case is decent in construction and the album covers are just like the originals. They are a treasure I will long enjoy. And the price cannot be a factor if you truly love Dire Straits as you will never be able to do this again after they are sold out. So, whether you don't have the albums or CDs that Dire Straits did or you have every one of them, I would still recommend this boxed set for your collection. I look at what vinyl is going for these days and you can't complain about the price of these 8 LPs at all. C'mon, you know you want 'em. Close your eyes, take a deep breath and order them now. Before it says...."Out of stock. We don't know when these will be back."

Awesome Mini-Vinyl Reproduction CD Box-Set!
I've purchased quite a few box sets recently (ZZ Top, UFO, Bad Co, Alice Cooper, The Doors, etc.) and only two of them (The Doors and this Dire Straits set) have absolute album reproductions. What I mean is, the ZZ Top set has most of their albums reproduced in mini-vinyl cd form, but its only the cover itself that's reproduced. Unlike both The Doors and the Dire Straits sets, which includes full sleeve reproduction as well cover reproduction. Now, combine that with the classic albums included in this box-set (from their self-titled debut to the Platinum selling Brothers In Arms) and you've got a pretty awesome set. There are no extras included, just the cd's. So, the fact that they're true reproductions that include lyrics and/or liner notes make this basic, stripped-down, if you will, box-set that much better. Since I purchased this set, I've found myself listening to it quite often. Mark Knoffler is a true one-of-a-kind guitar player. His playing style and lyrical delivery are uniquely his own, giving Dire Straits its own distinctive sound. An infectious sound that's been carried across FM radio airwaves for the past 45 years and into the ears of millions of fans. I am very happy with my purchase and highly recommend this box-set.

Great sounding vinyl but some of the smaller details were neglected
Somewhat disappointed in this box set. First off and most importantly, they sound great. What I am not crazy about is the sleeve opening being opposite the binder with the album label. Therefore, if you want to read the album names be careful when slipping them out of the box that houses all the records. Or else your record is going to land on the floor. Secondly, I wish there was a better protective sleeve. I used master sleeves to store mine because I donโt like storing my vinyl in a cardboard sleeve. Lastly, Iโve noticed some typos with the song lyrics on the self titled album. With the hefty price tag, I expect all the details to be considered in the complete package to be the highest of quality. I compare this to my Abbey Road half masters credence box set which is definitely five out of five stars.

Nice affordable package
Excellent and affordable package. Like many budget-priced all-in-one collections (โOriginal Album Series,โ etc.), the discs are packaged in plain cardboard sleeves, but unlike them, thankfully, each comes with an insert reproducing the inner-sleeve art and lyrics from each original album. Just one improvement they could have made there: there is still no credit for David Knopfler on Making Movies even though he played on the album, though he left the band before it was completed. One reviewer thought it was good that Warner opted to include only the original tracks and no bonus tracks which would likely be a lot of inferior early versions and alternate takes. But as all DS fans should be aware, there are four tracks that belong on a โcompleteโ set but are conspicuously omitted here: the โTwisting by the Poolโ EP (Twisting by the Pool, Two Young Lovers, If I Had You and Badges, Posters, Stickers, T-Shirts). Really, would it have killed them to append them to the Love Over Gold disc, or put them on their own disc? At least the superior live version of Two Young Lovers is still readily available. Iโm giving it five stars but really more like 4ยฝ because of that omission.
