Honeywell 5853 Wireless Glass Break Detector

I know these work because every now and then I accidentally drop something or band something and it causes the alarm to go off. I wouldn't say they are more sensitive than they should be (that would get annoying), but I am confident that these things which normally go unnoticed do their job as they should.Also, they blend in to my light gray walls well enough, so they are not an eyesore.

It’s easy to install and detects the brake very quickly

Being it is a wireless device it makes it easy to install but those who do install will need the test box device so as to assure that it is working properly. For the do-it-yourself individual take into consideration for this added cost as well as the ability to program the panel. The device works in conjunction with most Honeywell panels that has wireless access ability (5800 series devices) and must be programmed to receive a transmission from the device. Upon being faulted the device sends a response to the panel. The devices has no alarm to let the user know that the fault happen, it is the responsibility of the programmed panel to respond.Must have a Honeywell GBS-7 or FG-700 or FG-701 Glass Break Tester along with a Honeywell security panel that has wireless communications. Installation not recommended for the do-it-yourself individual since the panel programming requires an alpha numeric keypad as well as complications of the actual panel programming.

Pretty solid wireless glass break detector. It's a sleek design. Sensitivity adjustments are easy and has very good battery life. Can be used with 2Gig or Honeywell systems natively. Using a Honeywell FG-701 glass break tester to install and test this detector is highly recommended. This is a "dual-tech" acoustic sensor listening for the "thunk" and "shatter" of glass breaking due to impact. By using this glass break tester, it allows you to determine proper placement and sensitivity settings for your application. I've very rarely had an issue with these glass break detectors and will always choose this over the 2Gig glass break. In fact, the 2Gig glass break always has issues and should never be used.

We added this glass break product to the house and learned that it truly works. Our cats knocked over the plastic food container and set off the detection device. What a ruckus! Will definitely wake you from a sound sleep!

Could not figure it out.Junk.Too late to return

We installed these units by ourselves to save money. The glass break unit is easy to install using double sided tape. It uses a lithium battery which will last 3-5 years. The glass break sensitivity can be adjusted (low, med, high) - for instances such as yappy dogs that may bark in the high frequency. To test if your dog will set it off, simply modify the control unit to "chime" whenever the system is armed (Armed Stay/Armed Away). We have three small dogs and it hasn't set them off yet.We installed these units instead of window/door (5816) units since our windows are sliders (left - right) and can open from either side. The alarm company said that 99% of the time, a burglar will break the glass to open the window. It is very infrequent that they would use a glass cutter. We also have motion detectors installed.

I ordered 8 of these and 5 of the 8 had a problem with the rear tamper switch. The detector has two tamper switches. one is on the front cover and the other on is on the back of the circuit board and presses against the housing. Apparently the part of the housing that holds the board in place did not hold the board tight enough to activate the tamper switch. Rather than return them I placed a small piece of 3M automotive tape at the point where the switch touches the housing which gave the switch enough movement to close the tamper circuit. I'm not happy about the products quality control but I have a Honeywell security system and felt that I needed glass break detectors.
