Great purpose-specific radar/laser detector
I purchased this after researching all the options for installing a radar detector on my 09 Kawasaki Concours. As I'm a long-distance touring rider, the convenience and usability of the device on long rides was what mattered most. My requirements were: * Must wire into and mount onto the bike - I don't want wires going everywhere * Must have a visual alert system - I don't want to run a bunch of audio into my helmet, and I wear earplugs and can't hear much at highway speeds * Should be easy to remove & lock away, both for security and for legality in VA and DC * Should be weatherproof - I ride in all weather conditions, don't want a little rain ruining the device The Adaptiv motorcycle-specific solution is the best for my style of biking. I installed the device on a RAM mount next to my GPS - the included baseplate has a standard APMs hole-pattern that made it simple to mount. The visual alert LEDs mounted just below my gauge cluster. In my normal sitting position on the bike, this puts the LEDs at the very bottom of my peripheral vision, and when they light up, they definitely get my attention. Note that the LEDs flash along with the signal strength, so without even looking at the device you can tell if the signal is strong or weak, just keep in mind that you do need to look at the display to see what kind of radar/laser signal it's receiving. The buttons on the device are simple and easy to operate while wearing gloves, and the LCD display is readable at a glance unless it is in direct sunlight. It's simple to attach and remove from the base plate, with just one cable to connect for powere and the visual alert. While I haven't ridden with it in the rain yet, it appears to be high quality construction and I would be surprised if moisture presents an issue. I don't have the time to be a do-it-yourselfer, but my local shop installed it all for me in less than 90 minutes. So far I've ridden one weekend with it. False alarms were minimal around town and non-existent on the highway. Once I got used to the visual alert, I never had to glance away from the road to know that big brother was watching. One thing that wasn't a requirement for me is size. I have a big bike, so the fact that this device is rather large didn't bother me. If you have a smaller sport bike, you will likely want to install this somewhere near the middle of your handlebars so it doesn't stick out too far. Big buttons with glove spacing make for a larger device, nothing anyone can do about that. UPDATE - Jan 2017 - still going strong after 3-4 seasons of all weather riding, no issues at all.

Either faulty or police use new tech
I've been caught on LASER twice and this thing never went off. I've always drove by many police in speed traps and it never seems to go off. It only seems to go off randomly when there's no police around at all, even on the most strict mode (No X or K only Ka). I thought maybe the police have some sort of new tech, but it doesn't even go off at the "YOUR SPEED" signs. Either I got a faulty one or this thing blows. Disappointed because I saw so many videos showing this thing working great. But it seems there's only been once where it went off significantly and a cop car drove by.

A very solid product with amazing customer service.
After getting two tickets in 3 months on my bike, I finally decided to get a radar detector. However, most of thrones I was looking at, weren’t really made for use for life on two wheels. I finally came across the TPX radar detector, and decided to give it a shot, despite few the mediocre reviews, and I have to say that I was completely satisfied with this product. That is, until recently, where the thing finally broke on me. And now I am EXTREMELY happy I went with Adaptiv’s radar detector instead of some other one. Let me explain. Over the course of a year, my TPX took a couple falls from where it was mounted on the bike. All user error on my part. I pair this with a Ram mount, specifically, the X-Grip Ram mount, and occasionally, I didn’t secure my TPX before riding off. Once or twice, maybe three times, it fell when it wasn’t plugged in, and ended up sliding off the tank, and on to the concrete. Once while moving a slow speeds. With most electronics, this would put it out of commission. But my TPX kept on ticking, until one too many falls and it finally died. I reached out to Adaptiv, and I told them the story like it was. No lies. I told them it fell a couple times off the bike, it’s totally beaten up, and no longer turns on. Initially they said it would cost $75, which I would have been ok with paying, considering this was 100% accidental damage and user error on my part. However after a few more emails back and forth, they checked out my serial number and it they informed it was still under warranty (really? Their warranty covers user stupidity? yay!) and told me to send it in and that it would be fixed for FREE! Awesome! No complaints here! I saved $75! After a couple weeks, I got the unit back, and it was basically a brand new unit. Well, as far as the exterior looks goes. It was probably refurbished, but either way, still awesome. Well it turns out that my wiring harness got wet at some point during this time, and corroded the ends. So I yet again reached out to their customer service, expecting to pay for a replacement wiring harness due to water damage. And yet again, they completely surprised me saying it was still under warranty, and they would cover replacement free of charge. Seriously?! This level of customer service is bar none! Awesome! Thanks Adaptiv Team. You guys are freakin awesome! As for usage: this thing is quite sensitive. I get alerts from very far away and for sure it’s saved my butt at least 3 times that I know of in the last 2 years that I’ve had it. It’s survived every heavy downpour that both California and New York has thrown at me. I will say though that, this thing would be pretty useless if it weren’t for the visual alert add-on. It’s hard to hear when you’re at speed on the freeway. Not because it isn’t loud…it’s plenty loud. It just has stiff competition when you take in to consideration road noise, wind noise, and music playing through headphones. The Visual Alert LED is red, and has a long cord on it, so you can wire it anywhere on your bike. I have mine mounted right above my gauge cluster between my windscreen and the gauges. I do have to adjust the way i wear my helmet, otherwise the LED’s wouldn’t be visible, but I attribute that more to the fact that I’m on a sport bike, an leaned over forward pretty far enough as it is. Pros -Water Proof -Easily installed on any bike -Small size -Sensitive to radar/laser -Amazing Customer Service -Great warranty service -big buttons for easy use -Quick to unmount and remount -Easy to read Display -Paired with the Visual Alert, this is hands-down a great purchase Cons -Wish it had a way to remember locations and identify certain spots as false alarms.

Detects WAY much more than radar...
I certainly am confused by all the positive reviews on this unit as I just gave it a nearly 11K mile test drive (USA Four Corners tour) and it is quite literally the boy who cried wolf (or the radar detector who cried radar, as it were). My motorcycle was equipped with this unit while my buddy was carrying an Escort Max 360 connected to an iPhone running the nifty Escort Live software. I looked forward to checking the Adaptiv units sensitivity versus the Max 360. Unfortunately, the adaptiv unit has no discrimination whatsoever therefore it picks up EVERYTHING (and I mean everything) transmitting near K and Ka bands. After about the 30th time of calling him on our intercom and asking “where is that coming from?” (he has the directional arrows on the 360) to which he responded “nothing here”, I gave up. On any busy corridor, even with it selected to a mode with no X and no K, it is almost squawking constantly. As it was mixed with my Sat radio via an Sena SM10 it was nearly impossible to get through an entire song without pointless interruption unless we were cruising in remote areas with no other traffic. Pros: Neat design, buttons easy to manipulate with gloves (and you will be pushing one in particular ALOT to suppress all the bogus warnings). Remote LED nice touch. All inclusive package, aside from the add on handlebar mount (which was fine except the mounting screws are junk instantly rusting once we hit any humidity). Trick clip on mount and cable setup – easy to remove at the end of the day. Has the ability to turn off X AND K warnings in areas where one is mostly certain the LEO’s are only carrying Ka (or Laser) – BUT – this is only cool because the spurious K alerts are almost non stop. This thing IS as waterproof as I would need. Florida repeatedly tried to drown us and it kept clicking along with no damage. Cons: While it DOES detect radar (some Ka anyway and one verified Minnesota boy in blue with K) it also detects everything else. One can assume all the fancy new proximity sensors on the newer vehicles are setting it off (though not the Max 360) as well as the frequency oscillators on other dirty radar detectors. Because of this it is all but useless in any environment where there are ANY other cars, buildings, sun spots, snow owls with tracking collars, etc. I got so I only really paid attention to steady building Ka warnings. The other 16,723 alerts were nothing and therefore ignored. A couple of times it failed to detect K band speed signs (that my buddies 360 did) which are normally quite strong. I would see my speed flashing on the sign but the Adaptiv would be silent (yes, K band mode was on) – I would call back to my friend and say “that sign throwing anything?” to which the answer was always “oh yeah” usually followed by the exact frequency courtesy of the Live app (very cool). And NO, the “City” modes only performed marginally better. It did throw a few false laser alerts (which get your attention for sure) but so did the 360 (once they were in sync but we didn’t see the source, if there was one). I have not had a laser detector yet that didn’t throw a few false laser alerts so no biggie here. As they say, if you get a real laser alert, it will be shortly followed by flashing lights (if you were speeding). Long story short, maybe I got a bad unit but I give this thing 2 stars, because it is slightly better than nothing. Works okay in VERY remote areas. Neat design but too many false alarms to make it usable to avoid any speeding entanglements. Might be worth $100 – if that. You are probably better off adapting an automotive unit to the bike, hack as it may be. The 360 is a nice unit and while it occasionally detected non LEO K band warnings (and a few false lasers) it is a pretty darn nice product.

5 years later and still busting cops on the streets
Just for the heck of it I started reading some of the reviews and I was surprised. I bought this model 4 years ago and today and many many miles behind me, this radar detector is solid. Still working and I have upgraded to a new bike and I made sure the radar detector came with me. This little puppy will pick up a cop miles, yes miles before ithe cop detects you. Early warning early detection save your butt from getting tickets. You will experience a few false alarms but not many in my case. I also have a red line radar detector in my car which cost substantially more than this unit. There is not much difference. You get to know where the false alarms are especially if you drive to and from work everyday. At the same place on the motorcycle or in my car or false alarm will go off so you pretty much know what's a false alarm and what's not. The big buttons makes it easy to navigate with your gloves the fluorescent blue screen makes it easy to see at night and during the day. The red LED alert light is fantastic! It works in the daylight and on the sunniest day and also it's perfect for night. With the LED light It is also an indicator to alert you of a radar in the area. I've been on many many motorcycle trips and this unit has saved me a lot of money from getting tickets. It's not that I'm a wild man on my two wheels it's just sometimes when you pass through these little towns they can go from 55 to 30 mph in a heartbeat and that's where they get you. I keep a ziplock bag in my gear just in case it should rain I know this unit is waterproof but I always like to put it in a ziplock bag just to keep it safe and dry. Upon installation I had questions I called the company they would qwick to respond and fast to answer my questions. I would not consider going on a road trip on my motorcycle without this little unit. It's been with me for over four years and thousands and thousands of miles later it's still with me and I plan to keep it as long as it will keep me safe. I am pretty tough when it comes to recommending products or any rating system. after I read some of the negative comments on this unit I was compell to share my story. This is one of those purchases that I have never regretted and I look forward to it being a companion with me When I'm on the road taking trips. You're in a car or truck You may not speed but it's a sense of security In the sense of knowledge we know where a talk would be shooting radar behind a billboard or on a side street or wherever they like to hide it's good to know that you know where they are before they know where you are. Knowledge and information you can never get too much of it. This is a great product I wholeheartedly recommended and you two will be talking about the many miles traveled with your radar detector.

Powering unit up sounds like 80’s Video game.
Have been using for 9 months and unit works pretty well. The Good: Unit appears to be water tight and has stood up to a number of rain rides. Buttons work well and have a nice feel. You can turn off X and K and just have Ka and laser. Has good sensitivity but not the best. The Bad: No indication of radar direction. Unit goes thru loud annoying startup cycle. You can hold the mode button while applying power and It won’t go thru this obnoxious noise cycle, however you have to do this every time you turn the key on. This is a 2 hand operation every time. It’s embarrassing every time I forget to hold the mode button down.

Not very useful
Pros: Mounts nicely on motorcycle, flashing light to warn of cops Cons: Range is very poor with obstructions, I would expect something like this from spending $30 on woot for a Radar detector, the only times that I have seen it go off the cop is already clearly a cop within eyesight. On a note I live in a very curvy part of the country where the speed limits are set high enough to have some fun. This being said the range is absolute garbage here and the only time that I can see any use for this is on a straight highway through the midwest assuming that the cops don't flip their Radar on and off. After seeing the performance of this I am not comfortable using it for it's intended purpose (I own a beltronics radar detector for my car and would take 4x range in that over this anyday).

Perfect for my bike
I was a little hesitant to buy this as people had said that this unit was very sensitive but I called it fat the other day and it didn’t make a sound. I use mine specifically for Ka band which is the local speed gun frequency. Works perfect. I have to say though that if you ride with K, X and Ka on in town then you’re bike is going to flash and squeak like a demented b@stard. Turn it on city no x/k then you’re golden. Same for the highway.
