Just get this one.
I have a $20 pinpointer (Dmyond DMY-03) and it's just ok. It lags a bit and makes finding targets a bit tedious, but still better than no pinpointer. The functionality/settings are simple and limited but hey, it's cheap and it works. Good as a backup or to lend out. If you detect often, or even if you're just starting out like me but want to take it seriously, just get the XP. It's fast, responsive, incredible battery life. The continuous tone option is way better than the intermittent beeps IMHO. I don't think any other pinpointer has that option. It's sleek and small and feels very high quality. Have used under the water with zero issues, and you can still hear the pitch if it's shallow enough. If not the vibrate works great. The French may be eccentric but they make nice stuff! (Mostly cookware). I have a couple of cons but not enough to remove a star. I think it's still good enough to deserve a perfect review. Cons: -Not USB C. This is annoying. What, the company can't update this one design element? They would literally just have to change one tiny thing, the charging port. It's not a deal breaker because it comes with a mini USB cable, but it makes me feel like I'm in 2005. That being said I have already used the pinpointer many times, for hours at a time, and the still have over 2/3 battery life. Eventually I'll have to recharge it but not that often even with heavy use. So I guess it's whatever. -The light blinks when it's off. How stupid is this? The light blinks once every 4 seconds when the device it powered off to let you know that it has a charge. It is a very dim blink but still, why program the device to have a low power drain "feature" when you want it off? This cannot be turned off. Super stupid. -Another gripe with the light is the battery level reading. Every time you turn it on, the device will give a certain number of blinks to let you know the battery level. If you have the flashlight set to off, it will not do this. So to check the battery level you have to go through the process of turning the pinpointer on and off a few times in the right sequences, and then turn the light off again. I don't use the light and want it off to conserve battery, so I have found this little quirk to be annoying. Why not just have it give the battery level every time you turn it on even if the flashlight is off? Considering the aforementioned constant intermittent blink when the light is off, this seems like they focused the power savings thinking process in the wrong way.

Best pinpointer.
I did a lot of research on which pinpoint to buy, and I do believe this one is the best. It stands out from other pinpointers with its rechargeable batteries and monotone alarm. It also has a very far detecting range (probably about 3 inches), but this can be turned down if needed, as it has multiple levels to choose from. A bonus feature is that it has a flashlight that can be turned on and off unlike other pinpionters, which can be very helpful if you want to keep searching after the sun goes down. The only downside I can think of is that sometimes after a little use, it will uncalibrate itself so it beeps at everything, but this can be fixed by simply holding it up and pressing 1 button to re calibrate it through its ground balance feature. I have recieved no interference using this pinpointer with the 2 minelab detectors I own. Highly recommend If you want a good pinpointer. Love the monotone feature its much better than beeping and vibrating. (it can be switched to that if you prefer that though).

Very good pinpointer
I really like this pin pointer. I have this and the Garrett carrot and this works better than the carrot for actually honing in on the target once the plug is dug. The carrot seems to be a little bit stronger for sensitivity distance but once you're actually trying to find your target in the hole, it's better than the carrot.

Great pinpointer!
Pro: I love this pinpointer. It's super sensitive without falsing all over the place. No other pinpointer competes with it's depth.. but it's also easy to adjust if you need less sensitivity (one button push). Also waterproof and rechargeable.. so no more blowing through expensive 9V batteries. Con: Only con I've found after nearly 2 years of using it is it's lack of volume. It's hard to hear if you're in a loud environment such as a sidewalk with road traffic driving by or a beach or park with kids running around. I wish they made an optional second end cap with holes in it for the sound to escape for when you didn't need it to be waterproof and were detecting noisy areas. Heck, I wish they'd just sell me an end cap separately and I'd drill my own holes. When you take the end cap off the volume is 3x louder. It does have vibrate, but you can tell a lot more about the location of the object with the sound than you can from the vibration. I'm a Nokta fan boy who swings a Legend, but this IMHO is the best pinpointer on the market. I've looked at the Nokta Accupoint (I love that it differentiates between ferrous/non ferrous), but the videos I've seen on it show it to be a lot less sensitive than the MI-4. If you watch You Tube videos of people who have a whole selection of pinpointers, you will see they generally use the MI-4 regardless of the brand of detector they're swinging. I wish Amazon would let me give half stars, because I'd actually rate this a 4.5 instead of a 4. Solve the volume issue for a 5 stars... But I still highly recommend it.

Good buy
Short term test and I'm happy. Easy to use, adjust, and carry. Like the response and auto off. Battery life is good. Buy with confidence.

Finds the smallest piece of metal
Does what it supposed to do. I used it to find nails and screws left behind by a horrible contractor. I also tried to use it to trace an irrigation line, but that did not do so well. It also is no good if there is a lot of blue rock. It beeps at everything. But in dirt it finds everything. You need to charge each time you use it because it will drain even when it’s off.

Finally!
Everything about this pinpointer is awesome. The feel, the settings, holster, battery life (i keep it on pitch only), i love the re-tune feature and the fact the parts are replaceable and easy to find. I find things twice as fast now compared to my $20-$30 pointers. Last but not least, the seller was great and shipped faster than it was supposed to.

Not a loud as I’d like or as good on range as I thought. Purchasing this taught me that there is no better pinpointer out there than the Garrett carrot. If you’re reading this and in need of a pinpointer. Just get the Garrett carrot. There is no way to regret that purchase at least.

Great pinpointer. Quality above the rest.
A bit of a task to work out the button presses and what they do, but got there in the end. Good pinpointer, really sensitive. It works well in the field. Even picked up a small piece of gold - like 0.25g I have used a few pinpointers over the years - Minelab, Nokta etc, but this one is the best.

Perfect upgrade!
The XP MI-4 Pinpointer is a reliable, no-nonsense tool that delivers excellent performance for both beginners and more experienced detectorists. It’s lightweight, well-built, and has a comfortable rubberised grip that makes it easy to handle during longer sessions. With both tip and 360° detection, it’s very effective at quickly locating targets in the hole, helping to speed up recovery time significantly. The adjustable sensitivity levels and simple one-button control make it easy to use, while the retune feature allows for more precise pinpointing when you’re close to your find. One of its standout features is that it’s fully waterproof up to 6 metres, making it suitable for river, beach, and shallow water detecting, and the combination of audio, vibration, and LED alerts gives flexibility depending on your environment. The rechargeable battery is also a big plus, saving money on replacements over time. That said, it’s worth noting that it doesn’t include the wireless connectivity found in the more premium MI-6 model, and like many pinpointers, it can occasionally require recalibration in highly mineralised ground for best performance. Some users also find it works best when sensitivity is adjusted correctly rather than left on maximum. Overall, the MI-4 offers fantastic value for money, combining durability, ease of use, and solid performance without the higher price tag of premium models. It’s a dependable choice for anyone looking to improve their metal detecting efficiency.
