exceptional
This is the best cookie scoop I have used and I bake thousands of cookies a year. It is effective and is excellent in the dishwasher. It has never rusted on me, my last one broke because of scooping chilled dough but for anything at room temp it is perfect. Very comfortable and easy to use.

An essential tool for cookies!
This is my go-to utensil during cookie making season! When I first discovered this item, I could not believe I never used one before. Cookies come out so uniform that people think you bought them! The scoop is easy to use and much easier than dropping dough with a spoon and a lot less messy. I just had to replace my first scoop after many years of use. Great value and a great item if you do a lot of cookie baking.

Workhorse scoop works perfect five years later and for much more than just cookies
When I bought this scoop five years ago, I used it primarily for making cookies. It was perfect for getting just the right amount of dough and for keeping my cookies consistent for baking. The scoop has been working perfectly through these years. Prior to buying this scoop, I had tried other, more cheaply made scoops and found that they broke fairly rapidly. Knowing OXO's quality, I purchased this scoop once I found it on Amazon. I have found that I use it all the time for other purposes. One of my favorite uses is for making meatballs. I use this for my pasta dishes and especially when I make Albondigas soup. This is a wonderful Mexican soup and it is important to get the meatballs consistent in size. For anyone interested, here is the recipe I have developed over the years: Albondigas Soup Recipe Ingredients: * 1 large onion, chopped (1 cup) * 2 teaspoons granulated garlic * 2 teaspoons dehydrated onion (not onion powder) * 1 Tablespoon cooking oil * 32 ounces chicken or beef broth (or a mixture of half and half) * 4 cups water * 1/2 can (3 ounces) tomato paste * 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed (2 cups) * 2 medium carrots, sliced (1 cup) * 2 celery stalks sliced (1 cup) * 1 zucchini cubed (1 cup) * 1 beaten egg * 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro * 1 teaspoon salt * 1 teaspoon dried oregano, crushed * 1/2 teaspoon black pepper * 1 pound 80/20 ground chuck beef * 1/2 cup long grain rice (not Uncle Ben's - use the cheap type of rice as the grains soften to the right consistency) * 1 teaspoon cider or red wine vinegar Preparation: In large pot (6 qt), cook onion in hot oil till onion is tender but not brown. Stir in water, broth, and tomato paste. Bring to boiling; add potatoes, carrots, celery and zucchini. Bring to simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Add half of the cilantro, salt, oregano, and pepper (the other half is reserved for meatballs.) Meanwhile combine egg, dehydrated onion, and remaining cilantro, salt, oregano, and pepper. Add ground beef and half of uncooked rice. Mix well and return to refrigerator for 15 minutes to chill. Form mixture into around 1-inch meatballs (I use the OXO medium cookie scoop Add meatballs, a few at a time, to the simmering (not boiling!) soup. Add remaining rice. Return soup to boiling; reduce heat and simmer and cook uncovered about 30/40 minutes or till meatballs and vegetables are done. Skim fat, add vinegar, simmer 1 minute and turn off heat and serve.

Broke after 3 scoops of cookie dough.
I bought this at the recommendation of Sally's Baking Addiction after using so many of her recipes. And I was SO disappointed! I used it for 3 scoops of dough and is became misaligned and wouldn't push it out. I had to keep popping the gears back into place after every other scoop. I tried it for different cookie recipes for about 3 months, thinking maybe different doughs would work better. Nope! I finally got frustrated and just threw the thing away and went back to either using my tablespoon measuring spoon or just scooping it up and hoping for the best. My opinion: don't waste your money. Maybe I just got a dud, but I'm not going to buy another one to find out.

Great for Most Cookie Dough
This is the first cookie scoop I've ever purchased. The idea of perfectly portioned cookies was appealing, and if you've ever made hundreds upon hundreds of cookies for gifts, molding them by hand, you know that the task is a little on the tedious (and messy) side. I use this scoop primarily with a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie dough. It's a pretty sturdy cookie dough, so it works well with the scoop. I use one hand to do the scooping, the other to scrape the excess off the scoop so that my cookie dough has a flat bottom. Works great - still messy, but much less messy, and it speeds up the operation a little bit. I have used this scoop with other cookie doughs that weren't as sturdy - I had a recipe for chocolate chip cookies that produce more of a creamy dough. That doesn't work so well with this scoop. It gets messy, and also frustrating. In that situation, using this scoop wasn't much better than just rolling the dough in my hands. The moral of the story: know your dough. This is easy to clean, but make sure you "activate" the scoop to clean under the scooping blade, etc. when washing. I like to soak this for a few minutes before washing to make sure all the dough gets removed.

Take some of the gueess work out of your cookies !!
As a kid I loved making cookies with my mum, but on making them as an adult I could never quite get them the right. I decided to buy the Oxo Cookie Scoop so I could get all my cookies a uniformed size, and also so could get them in to the oven fast without the mix losing air from creaming process. I found I was spending a considerable amount of time, rolling, guessing sizes of dough etc, to get the perfect cookie. I bought the medium size scoop; I would recommend this size to someone that just wants one scoop. It's a nice size, slightly larger than average cookies, without being over generous (we as home cooks know how much butter goes into our cookies lol). The design features and build quality is A++, excellent finishing/wielding, large quality very "grippy" handle, quality steel and spring mechanism. This cookie scoop id expect to last at least 15 years, with use a couple of times a week, with occasional use a lifetime. Ok well design/build/quality is one thing but does it work??.....Yes and very well !!, for a start getting it out of the draw... The grippy handles make it easy to grip with flour/butter on hands, then simply but dough in scoop, level off with knife, squeeze the handle, and you have the perfect amount of dough every time, and there in the oven fast !!. Clean up is super easy as I just place in dishwasher and comes out perfect every time (some gadget's id rather wash by hand). Pros: Does an excellent job, good quality, dishwasher safe, reliable brand, built to last. Cons: None....Excellent buy and value. I don't expect to see any rust or quality issues, but if I do I will update review.

Works as expected (worth the money)
I was tempted to buy a cheaper scoop but then remembered I have done that a few times already and non of them have worked as I wanted them to. I am very pleased to say that the extra money spent buying this has paid off and I can now get rid of the others. After watching many different recipe videos where people have used scoops to measure out biscuit mixtures and other small treats to bake in the oven using one of these, I decided to buy this one and it works perfectly. It seems strong, robust and very easy to use too. I have not tried using it with ice cream but I am sure it would work fine for that too. I have other OXO kitchen tools and they have always been really great so I will remember that next time I go to buy something else and spend the extra money to get something that actually does what it is meant to and not waste money on other cheaper versions.

The perfect size for cookies, well constructed
I ordered one of these scoops and only used it once before my mother came over, saw it and took it home. Needing another right away, I bought three separate scoops in store and hated every one of them. They were too large, too small, or just poorly constructed. This scoop is too small for cupcake batter, but for cookies it's just perfect. The construction is high quality as well, the handle doesn't slip when it gets greasy and the scoop release is flush to the scoop itself, so all the dough comes right out. No more doughy hands! Keeping the cookies uniform helps to ensure even cooking as well. If you're a baker and you don't have a cookie scoop, you're missing out!
