Atomic Timing Greatest Attribute
I’ve worn this GW9400 Rangeman for 4 Solid Months, felt it was appropriate to offer an honest review. My background wearing wrist watches in the modern era would have to start in the year 2013 when I purchased an Omega Man on the Moon. I can’t remember the exact model but it did not have the self winding feature. IOW you had to wind it daily. I purchased it new and at the time it was the closest new model as to what the astronauts wore at the time of the first moon landing. I wore it close to a year and decided what I really wanted to wear was a dive watch but not just any dive watch, I bought a new six digit Rolex Submariner, from a trusted seller saving $1100 off the $7500 MSRP price in 2014. If you’ve owned and wore one then you know what a beautiful time piece it is The Submariner purchase led the way to buying and wearing Seiko diver watches and to date I now own approximately a dozen Seiko diver watches. During this accumulation period I sold the Rolex as I found it was spending too much time in a drawer. I also found that when I wore the Sub, it attracted unwanted attention and I preferred how any and all of my Seiko divers flew under the proverbial radar, even the Mac Daddy of them all, the Spring Drive Tuna So after 5 years of wearing Seiko divers Imy attention strayed and I started looking at G-Shocks. I settled on this Rangeman mainly due to the Atomic timing feature but I liked the appearance of this particular model with the dark dial over the other easier to read alternative. I was also attracted to the olive drab case and band color vs. the other models black case and band On the subject of dial view ability, the detractors that have worn this model then sold it only to buy and wear black case and band with the easier to see dial, in a way, I’d have to agree with them that the dark dial is harder to read at times but with the push of the dial light illumination feature, the dial is now more easily read. It does take a certain level of commitment to wear this watch but IMO, the trade offs owning the dark dial is very much worthwhile. Anyways, I’m all in with this watch and although I’ve only been wearing it for 4 months, I have to say I rather enjoy everything about it, and trust me, this is coming from someone whose majority of diver watches are automatics and not quartz. I have purchased a few quartz dive watches, one of which is a solar powered Citizen and to be quite honest, I’m not particularly fond of quartz watches, until I purchased this G-Shock. Now, the quartz vs. antomatic dicotomy doesn’t matter to me. In fact, my favorite feature of this watch is it’s ability to sync with the Atomic clock in Colorado On that note, I find more often than not, most nights this watch will automatically sync with the Atomic clock yet there are times it won’t. That said to sync manually is easy to do and I need to state the fact tgatbI spend a lot of time awake after midnight and well into the morning. It’s just the schedule I keep so I’m up during the time the Atomic sync takes place and it’s enjoyable to watch this action take place. The fastest I’ve seen this watch sync is two minutes. Other times it’s a lengthier process This watch has a timing feature. I’ve used it but I have other means to carry out timing when needed so it’s not a feature of this watch that is used often, and I only mention it as it is there if you want it Admittedly, all of the other features this watch offers, I don’t use, like it’s ability to record temperature. If I want to know the ambient temperature and am not near an actual thermometer then I look to my phone’s weather app, which is quite accurate Another feature this watch has thatbI don’t use it the altimeter. I spend most of my time in Florida where I live (north central). We are mostly at or near sea level. I have no need nit desire to know how many feet above sea level I am, yet this watch has that ability to inform you if you want Wearability. This is an easy watch to wear IMO. The band is quite comfortable. At this time I find no need to swap the stock band for something different yet if you want to there options to change to a NATO or ZULU fabric band As you are likely to know, this watch is waterproof and has a depth rating of several hundred feet. Nice to know if I wanted to snorkel or free dive, this watch is more than capable G-Shock watches are known for their ruggedness. I’ve banged mine into a wall once or twice with no ill consequence but I am not one to abuse my watch nor subject it to rough wear. I live and work on a farm so for day to daily tasks, it’s quite up to those challenges though built to far exceed them To wrap this review up and in closing I want to say, I’m impressed with what this watch can and will do. What it does for me is to easily tell time at a glance and that is what I wear a watch for, it’s ability to let me know what time it is yet as mentioned, will do more and look good doing it

"endgame" watch for bushcraft
Ever since I was a kid in the Scouts, I have pined for a G-Shock watch. My parents never got me one and now I kinda know why: they're not cheap. I think I expected any Casio watch to be within the range of a good budget watch, because they make a ton of affordable, yet functional, wrist watches. I have owned a few CA-500 calculator watches, which I adore and wear as my daily casual watches. When I decided to get a G-Shock for myself, I had sticker shock. And I did not want to spend $70 on one that had the basic G-Shock features... what makes Casio watches fun is their tech (even if it's not cutting edge anymore, it's still fun). I wanted environmental sensors and multiple alarms and a timer and this is probably the most full-featured "adventure" watch you can get. I will probably never need to buy another G-Shock or diving watch or anything else similar. Like any Casio product, though, there are a couple frustrating limitations: While there is a snoozeable alarm, getting it to stop until the next day is a little convoluted and requires you entering the time adjustment mode; and the timer's smallest increments are 1 minute -- you cannot set a timer for less than one minute, though it will count seconds. But that's not a big of a deal and doesn't really detract, because there is so much packed into this watch that surely compromises will be made. You will probably need to calibrate the sensors. The temperature was off about 10 degrees high. I have yet to check it against a calibrated barometer, but I don't particularly trust it until I do. That said, it has accurately warned me of incoming rain, multiple times, when the barometric pressure dropped suddenly and triggered the watches alarm. The altimeter is relative, not absolute and not based on sea level. You are intended to set your base altitude before ascending a mountain or ridge or whatever, then the change is in reference to that. One could go to the beach and set the base to sea level that way, though, if so inclined. The face is harder to read than a positive display, but that is a byproduct of the watch being solar powered: it needs a black panel. The light works perfectly to illuminate it though, even in moderately bright light. It is difficult to see in any amount of light less than a bright indoor room. The Mudmaster series is probably the next up from the Rangeman, but this is a slightly better value as most Mudmasters are two-sensor unless you go above $400, but they do offer some better armor, even though this is more than sufficiently protected. This listing was also a very good deal as the watch retails for $360. The description being fully in Chinese made me worried it might be a same-factory knock-off, but I think I need to drop antiquated expectations of Chinese manufacturing. Even if it is a knock, it's impossible to tell. It's rock solid. Not exactly a diving watch, but it is rated for some depth. The glass is clear and strong and it has a nice lip to protect it. Everything is sturdy and firm. The strap feels like it will hold up well (can't say the same for the CA-500s). It is also very comfortable. Even though it's heavier than I am used to, I barely notice it beyond an appreciated and comfortable weight to remind me it is there. It feels good both snug tight and a little loose. I change it depending on my activity level. It's also very handsome. I was worried that olive drab would clash with anything that's not outdoorsy-looking, but it blends in and matches almost any casual outfit I've put together. I would even wear this with some more formal outfits. It is a very handsome watch. I also think women could comfortably wear this watch. I have small wrists and it's not too big on me at all and it has a strong sense of purpose that transcends gender.

Best watch I have ever owned. (And that includes a Tag, a Rolex, and a Citizen!)
I agonized over which model G-Shock to get. I was replacing a Citizen Promaster Dive watch that I love, but that chews up batteries. Long story short, I decided that is going on ebay, and I am getting a G-Shock. I had one G-Shock solar back in 2010-12 that I had a lot of problems with (holding charge) but I think I did something to cause that, and given the reviews, I knew this would be a watch I could trust. The issue was, there are about 50 models of this thing between standard and limited edition models, and it is hard to know which is which and why what seems to be the same exact thing is $200 more from another seller. I can tell you: These watches have become collectable, and some of the limited edition and Japan only models fetch a lot of money here in the USA. If you are not going to collect it or are not locked into one of the special colors, you can get the one you want much cheaper sticking with the regular USA only release. I'm mostly an avid cyclist and camper, so I wanted features that would be beneficial to me, and I tend to shoot and hunt a lot, so naturally I wound up settling on the Rangeman Master of G series. The only question became, black with positive display or green with negative. I read scores of reviews, watched every video. I was concerned with the reviews that slammed the readibility of the watch, but then I read a few where the reviewer said he could not be happier that he went with the negative display. So that sold me. The price I paid, to me, was very fair. This watch is worth all of the $200 you will pay for it in my estimation. Pros: - Very, very comfortable to wear. Unlike my last watch that always rattled around on my wrist, this one stays put and I forget I have it on. This to me is one of my favorite things about the watch, I forget I am wearing it so I am never thinking "my watch is bugging me, I need to take it off for a bit." - Cool looking. Yeah, I know, but that is one of the things people look for when they are watch shopping. Does it make them happy to look at? - Functionality: Excellent so far. I have not gotten deep into the calibrating of the altimeter or anything like that, but the buttons are easy to push, the automatic time reception is so strong that most nights it picks it up while I am asleep with it on my wrist, and I am nowhere near a window. - Negative Display: Yes, at times it can be hard to read, and I might need to tilt my arm a little more than with a normal watch to get the right angle, but in the daytime, I find it very readable, and at night, I have gotten used to the arm movement you need to use to turn on the light automatically, so no problem there, either. - Band: Love the dual fasteners, the metal band retainer looks good and works great, no sliding around for me and no annoying scratching as I type that makes me want to take off my watch like my previous one. I took that one off all the time at work, the GS? Never. - Color: The green is just about right. whoever said it looks like a WWII tank nailed it. But in no way do I feel like it screams "I am a mall ninja" or "I am a seal team 6 wanna-be!" I don't feel like a poser wearing military gear. Cons: - I wish I could make the light stay on longer, it would make it easier when cycling functions or trying to read the seconds display at night In summary, I am VERY glad I got the one with the negative display, and this is from a guy who needs (but does not own) glasses. I think the negative display is really neat. I think there is a Japan only one that is black with the negative display if the green does not do it for you.

Last watch you will ever buy
Had this watch for 7 years and put it through the ringer of hard blue collar work. It has never died on me and always stays around 2/3 charged from solar. Its been through many lakes and hottubs. The strap finally broke so I reordered a new one. The old one still works and will now be my back up. Thanks for the amazing great watch! Definitely worth the money! I love that it tells you when it will rain and what direction you are always headed. The exterior of the watch is heavy-duty and can handle being scratched. The lens gets scratched up but it still works and does the job over the years. Definitely recommend this watch to any outdoor or off grid enthusiasts!

Great watch built tough
Bottomline: This watch is as accurate as you can get for a watch based three sensor system. It's G-Shock tough, solar powered, and the controls are easy to understand. I just took this watch on a week-long trip to Berchtesgaden in the German Alps. On Day 1 we did a hike out to the Koenigsee. I calibrated the altimeter while I was at the known altitude of the lake. On day 2, it was pouring rain. So, no hiking. On day 3, we were hiking up in the mountains around Gruenstein. Even with the changes in weather, this watch was accurate within 1 meter of our altitude two days after calibration. I chose this watch over Casio's other three sensor choices due to the proven durability of their G-Shock line. With this watch, you do not get a dedicated button for each sensor. Instead, you have just one button to cycle through the sensors. I had no issues with understanding how to navigate with the buttons. I did knock off a star because the blackout screen is dark and harder to read. If you look at the display photo, just reduce the contrast by about 2 steps. Yep, that's what it looks like in real life. I also wish they would make a true blackout edition without the shiny metal parts. I am in the military, and it would be nice to have it completely OD green and black. January 2016 Edit: So, it's been six months or so. One thing to watch out for with this watch is the battery. I usually spend my days in an office working in Germany. So, the watch was under a sleeve a lot and not able to charge in the sun due to indoor environment, limited daylight, and overcast skys. I have to take it off in the office and point it towards the window during some days to keep it charged at the medium level. Hopefully, the return of summer conditions and lighter clothing will help charge this thing a bit better...

I really like this watch
I really like this watch. It has a nice weight to it but not too heavy. Feels solid. The negative display looks really high tech and high Quality. I really love the look of it! And unlike some people I have no problem reading it even in low light situations. However, I DO have a hard time with the smaller display items and the round "Eye" display when it's showing things like compass headings or barometer up or down readings. But this is just my poor eyesight. ( The "Eye" is a secondary display, so you still get the same information in a different way from the main display). The altimeter will be off daily. This is because it goes by air pressure, And it's not the watches fault, any altimeter based on air pressure will do the same. The good news is that you can manually adjust it at any time to reset to your real altitude. The thermometer will be off too, again not the watches fault. It's on your wrist, it will get warm from your body heat. Duh. For an accurate temperature reading, remove it from your wrist, place in the shade for about 20 minutes. Solar power seems to work great. When I first got the watch the battery level was at Medium (because the watch was stored for months without any light). After the second day (just wearing it normally) it started fluctuating between medium and high. The next day it stayed at high and it's always there now. Atomic clock: I love this feature! The watch will pick up the National Institute of standards atomic clock radio signal. This is broadcast from Fort Collins Colorado. I live in Orlando FL, which is very far away from there. It will try to get the signal every night. So far (two weeks in) it only missed it twice. Not a big deal, the watch is accurate enough that it doesn't need a reset every night. But it still gets it most nights. And it will tell you the last time it synced up! Cool! Just put the watch near a window at night for best reception of the signal. You can get a G-Shock with a lot of the same features that this one has for about half the price. But I have no regrets. For me the extra features are worth it. I mean, G- Shocks last forever, so why not spend a little more and go for the best? This is a COOL Watch!

The watch is rugged, good looking, reasonably priced and a good value for the money. Recommended.
Nice watch. Originally, I was going to select the black case/strap version, but decided to go with the green one, instead, to save a few bucks. I needed the watch right away as my existing timepiece went belly up and I was having trouble locating a replacement battery, locally. I didn't want to hassle with that, so I chose next day shipping and boom! The watch arrived right on time. I t was packed with overkill, which is a good thing. My only gripe, and it's minor, really is that with a lot of these modern watches it seems like you need a BS degree in electrical engineering & electronics to figure out the operating instructions. But, I've got the basic time/date functions up and running and will sit down soon and work out the rest. The watch is rugged in spades. I've already accidentally dropped it once on my tiled bathroom floor. Results: not a scratch. Didn't miss a beat. Water's no problem, either. I don't wear my watch in the shower, but it's been through a dip in the local public pool as a test. Passed with flying colors. I'm not a diver, so I'll leave information about that to someone who is. All in all, I really like my new watch. A bit more contrast with the numbers and such on the face would be nice, but the back light is there if you need it. The watch charges reasonably fast with just a short few minutes exposure to the sun. Or, you can leave it under your desk lamp etc. and it will charge up quite nicely. I recommend this G-Shock for anybody who spends a lot of time outdoors. Hey, the sun is there and it's free. Use it to run your Rangeman and forget about battery replacement for a long, long time.

One of the best G Shocks out there.
Fantastic looking old school g shock. All the functions you could ever want. Easy to set up by completely ignoring the manual and by watching a YouTube video instead. My only criticism is the negative display can be difficult to read at a glance but the back light is fantastic. Managed to get this for around £200 with a few extra pounds for delivery. The watch came to the UK from America and was delivered within 8 days - great service so thanks to the seller.

buen reloj
Es justo lo que esperaba, un reloj robusto y con muchas utilidades para el deporte al aire libre, se hace algo grande al principio pero cómodo.

Perfect for the field, outdoor activities, sports, and feeling like an action man from the future.
This watch is everything that I want it to be. I like other ABC watches but the batteries don't last long enough to NOT annoy me. I like receiving the time signal from the USA because accuracy is important for me at work in the military. This fixes all of those things by combing ABC features, adding sunset and sunrise, a member/recall feature, tough solar so that the battery dying every year or less isn't an issue, and it receives the signal from the USA so it's always accurate. I even have DST set to auto so it's the right time even when the time changes. I love that. It receives the signal without difficulty in most places on the main floor of my house near Barrie in Ontario. It's also mud resistant with special buttons designed to keep junk out of the workings. It being mud resistant is a big plus because it means the sensor is protected from things getting into it. The woods that I wear this in is usually a very sandy environment and it gets under the buttons of other watches...but not this one. I love the strap and the size. I love the negative display. Casio knows that the negative displays are not as "at a glance" visible as the positive ones. I have no trouble reading the time, or any other information. When there isn't enough light I use the backlight (solar powered batter! Use that backlight all you want!). If you don't like the negative display, Casio makes models without it. I prefer it as I like the styling of the green and black. It also has an auto backlight feature that I use when my right hand is holding something and I can't let go to press the button at night. I like the wider strap and larger buckle, as well as the metal keeper. Some people don't like that the brushed steel on the keeper can get scratched...but...it's a G shock....soo...I'm good. The buttons and screwed are also brushed so they aren't all that shiny, but the buckle is polished. None of this is really a problem for people who say it makes it less tactical because you would wear you sleeve over it if that were your goal. I do, although I don't find it necessary under most conditions with this watch. Another problem people have mentioned is that it's so big that doing something like pushups can put back on it enough with the back of your hand that it may damage it or just be very uncomfortable. When I'm working out, or riding my bicycle, wearing this watch I just loosen the strap by one notch and there is plenty of room for it to move around while I do my pushups or whatever. The buttons are also nice to push. So. Satisfying. Oh, yeah. It didn't take long to get the watch to a full charge and it has never dipped down below that, even though I do not wear it all the time and am also often indoors. On my days off I wear one of my favourite mechanical watches that don't get to come to work with me and this one sits in a drawer. Doesn't seem to make a difference. I find the readings from the sensor features to be very accurate. I especially use the compass (Accurate enough when you're lost in the woods or even just orientating yourself to follow directions or instructions in the woods), and the barometer. I find the Baro alarm (to inform you of sudden changes in pressure) to work very well. I especially like to know if a storm may be coming and this has helped a lot. It is also very light, not even just light for its size...just light. it's slightly heavier than other g shocks but that is likely due to the extra equipment inside and the metal buttons. Still light enough to wear all day in the head, swim with, run with, etc. I love it. It may be the best G shock ever made.
