Battle cry of spiritual survival
“Like it or not, you are at war”.From then on, like it or not, I was captured by its battle cry.Picture yourself as a soldier dropped behind enemy lines. The enemy is all around and out to locate and destroy you. Far from your true Fatherland, you have only your weapons to fall back on. You have now something of the atmosphere that pervades Manual of Spiritual Warfare. Parachuted into a land rightly yours, you have come to stoke the fires of resistance, to organise the revolt, to start a rebellion. Such is the lot of all baptised Christians called to a warfare that only ceases when at last the trumpets sound at Armageddon. You have now the reason why this book has been published, and why it is so necessary today.Like any manual to be carried behind enemy lines, it is succinct and to the point, as well as being packed full of ‘weaponry’ for the war now to be propagated. It breaks down into two parts.Part One: ‘Preparing for the Battle’. This is the portion you should have read before you boarded the plane that under cover of darkness dropped you into this occupied territory. It tells of the Enemy and the battle lines. Then it reminds you of the rightful King for whom you fight, and who is there to help you in this expedition, as well as the aid from your Commanders and comrades in the coming skirmishes. In regard to this eventuality, there is more assistance to be had than at first you might think. It then proceeds to go through your ‘kit’: your ‘soul’ armour and your weapons. Never forget this is an offensive: you are expected to take the fight to the Enemy. As you march forward, however, it warns of the prevailing enemy propaganda that you will meet – at all costs you must keep this and its source outside ‘the camp’, and, along the way, beware also of collaborators in whatever guise.Part Two: ‘Aids in Battle’. This is what you should already know but are here helpfully reminded of – Church teaching on the type of warfare to be expected: Catechisms, Church Councils, and Papal Documents, are all quoted. Then the all-important Scripture verses – some of your best weaponry – as well as the crucial Scriptural ‘intelligence’ on the Enemy and his fellow travellers. In addition, there are words of wisdom and help from Our Glorious Dead – those who have gone before us and now assist with ‘aerial combat’. Finally, there is a compendium of prayers, devotions and hymns to lead you into and out of battle. All of these will confuse and irritate the Enemy, as now with ‘air support’ you are ready to advance ever deeper into the dark core of his counterfeit kingdom in this war of liberation. The Manual of Spiritual Warfare has a number of aims. First of all, it nails the lie that evil has no name. To fight one must know with whom it is we do combat. That leads to the second aim: why we fight. Now for those living in the Western World a walk around any major city testifies to the evils in our midst. This text teaches how to discern what is what and who is who in this often invisible if all too real conflict. Reading this manual helps us recognise, resist, and overcome, never losing sight of what is at stake. And it is not just for ourselves that we are prepared to take up arms but for our family, our friends, and for all those we are joined to in the equally invisible if unbreakable tie of Baptism.

Must have for Catholics
I recently purchased the Manual for Spiritual Warfare by Paul Thigpen and I have been blown away by the depth of wisdom and insight that it contains. This book is an absolute must-have for anyone who is serious about their spiritual journey and wants to learn how to effectively engage in the battle against the forces of darkness. One of the things that I love about this book is how it seamlessly weaves together Scripture, Church teaching, and real-life examples to provide a comprehensive guide to spiritual warfare. Thigpen's writing is clear, concise, and easy to understand, which makes it accessible to readers of all backgrounds and levels of spiritual maturity. What I appreciate most about this book, however, is its focus on prayer and the importance of developing a deep relationship with God. Thigpen understands that true spiritual warfare is not just about battling against external forces, but about cultivating a deep and abiding faith that enables us to stand strong in the face of adversity.Overall, I cannot recommend this book enough. If you are looking for a powerful resource that will help you deepen your spiritual life, grow in faith, and equip you to engage in the battle against the forces of darkness, then the Manual for Spiritual Warfare is an absolute must-read.

Finally found a CATHOLIC spiritual warfare resource!
At the moment so much of Catholic Christendom in the West is stuck with The Church of Rainbows and Sunshine... the Politically Correct approach that I have dubbed, "Careful Catholicism" ~ riding on the fence so as not to offend anyone or make any kind of strong straight-forward statements. With the result that while we Catholics in the West are well versed in "social justice" most of us basically know squat about spiritual warfare and the battles we are fighting without even realizing it. So books like these are proving to be invaluable ~ if you can, spread the word and get more Catholics involved. And there is something important that I must share from personal mistakes made in this spiritual warfare:No offense, but please avoid non-Catholic spiritual warfare methods. This is because, as per a good Priest-friend of ours, we do not have the personal authority to "decree and declare" against Satan and his demons. Father tried to explain it in easy terms for my thick head and what I can repeat is that demons are very legalistic and if you start personally ordering them around you can get yourself and your family into serious danger. I myself was doing exactly that with several different books by Cindy Trimm and Beth Moore and the like. While these books are VERY informative, with Cindy Trimm's books being the best I've ever found information-wise (so detailed and practical and they really teach you what spiritual warfare is all about and what happens when we pray etc), the actual methods of how we "fight back" have subtle flaws that end up being very dangerous for us as individuals. I have no idea if my sudden onset of body-wide crippling arthritis was a result of demonic attack from me fiddling around with spiritual warfare like an untrained child or if it is just a coincidence... but it happened shortly after me spending many months "decreeing and declaring" against Satan and his demons. Either way it is enough of a warning for me to not want to bring things like this on me and my family via demonic attack because I am being an idiot. So it is absolutely vital that we Christians, Catholic or not!, are *properly* trained in how to push back against Satan. The most reliable and safe resources are anything Catholic and Orthodox. You can imagine my delight when I stumbled across this Manual For Spiritual Warfare after spending a few months licking my wounds and asking God for the proper guides for resisting Satan so that he will flee from me. I highly recommend this little weapon to be added to any Christian's arsenal! And also three other FANTASTIC resources:Church Militant Field Manual: Special Forces Training for the Life in ChristFortes in Fide: Church Militant Prayer BookStrength and Alliance: Church Militant Field JournalInformation-wise, Cindy Trimm's books are nearly peerless:The Rules of Engagement (but do not dive into the prayers until you know without a doubt about the flaws!)The Art Of War For Spiritual BattleThe Prayer Warrior's Way'Til Heaven Invades Earth(The other books, stay away from them. Although they present a strong allure they are modern nonsense that treats God and the spiritual realm more like a gumball machine that you can control, haul on the crank and what you want will pop out of the chute kinda thing, etc. Very dangerous too.)

A quality reference
This isn’t a book on the history or theology of demonic attacks or anything like that. It touches on theological issues and theory a little bit, particularly in the first chapters, but fundamentally this book assumes you’re already academically or theologically on the same page as the author and provides you with techniques to apply in your own spiritual life.To he honest I was personally hoping those earlier theoretical chapters would have been a bit longer and more substantial. I was really hoping for a much deeper dive. However, I can’t fault the book too much for that because it’s not marketed as an academic work; it’s sold as a manual for personal application and that’s primarily what it is. In that pursuit, it’s filled with quotations and prayers from scriptures, the saints, and more intended for the reader’s use in a variety of circumstances. Most of the information will be familiar to readers well versed in this topic. Indeed, these are primarily famous prayers and well-known quotations rather than original works of the author. If you’re looking to *learn* a lot, therefore, this may not be the best book for you. However, where it excels is that it has compiled all of this information from disparate sources and put it all in the same book for easy reference. That makes it invaluable to someone who’s looking for prayers of spiritual combat or relevant quotations from the saints or church fathers. And even for those looking at the subject more academically, it’s quite useful in that it paints a relatively complete picture of what spiritual warfare looks like in Catholic teaching specifically for the laity (whereas many other works have focused almost exclusively on the rite of exorcism which is reserved for the clergy). We may quibble over certain omissions and we can certainly criticize it for repetitiveness if one tries to read it straight through rather than reading small bits at a time as a sort of reference, but it does undoubtedly have a place in the library of either the Catholic faithful or the scholar of spiritual warfare.

Manual for Spiritual Warfare A Must Read To Understand Sin!
Every book that I have read by Paul Thigpen was a every great read. I particular like the him explaining the battleground, the enemy, the influence of the evil one blinding people with the secular world, and the methods of gaining your graces against mortal sin (repent and be saved), and especially the insight of the saints and their struggles with SIN (battle with demons). This is a must read if you want to understand the evil that is around you and the evil in people. There is no repentance for the angels after their fall, just as there is no repentance for men after deathSaint John DamasceneRemember what Dante wrote in Paradise Lost - Relinquish all hope, ye who enter here"'

EVERY HUMAN BEING SHOULD READ THIS BOOK - IT MAY SAVE YOUR SOUL
Every human being should read this book and every Roman Catholic (dare I say) should have this book in their library. Why? Because, due in large to a complete lack of proper catechesis, we need to be reminded that a fierce war rages for our souls. Whether or not we wish to face the facts, we are at war. And we face a powerful, deadly enemy who is out to destroy us. It s a spiritual war with crucial consequences in our everyday life and its outcome will determine our eternal destiny. If we are to engage the enemy with confidence, then we need this Manual for Spiritual Warfare; this guide for spiritual warriors to help us recognize, resist, and overcome the Devil's attacks.Part One, Preparing for Battle, answers these critical questions:- Who is Satan, and what powers does he have?- What are his typical strategies?- Who fights him alongside us in battle?- What spiritual weapons and armor do we possess?- How do we keep the Enemy out of our camp?Part Two, Aids in Battle, provides us these essential resources:- Teaching about spiritual warfare from Scripture and Church documents;- Scripture verses for battle;- Wisdom and inspiration from saints who fought Satan;- Prayers for protection, deliverance, and victory;- Rosary meditations, hymns, and other devotions for spiritual combat,St. Paul urges us to fight the good fight of the faith (1 Tim 6:12) so take this Manual for Spiritual Warfare with you into battle. The leather-bound volume comes in charcoal grey, has rounded corners, an embossed cover, silver foil, black ribbons, silver edges and red accented interior. I cannot recommend this book highly enough and would encourage all to read it. It could save you soul. If you found this short review helpful do please tick the YES box below. Thanks.
