The instructions have you attach the base pairs with sticky foam pieces, they can't be taken apart again but you can remove and reattach the backbone. It was a very different activity, more like a puzzle, but my niece (10) liked seeing her DNA in the other activity, so I thought this would show her more about what DNA was. Its like a puzzle, you have to fit all the pieces together and it only goes together the "biologically correct" way, so she was learning as she went and it ends up being this big colorful squishy double helix just like she'd learned about at school.
