Review: A very good coffee maker - When my Keuring coffee maker died after only a couple of years of use I started looking for a replacement. I had heard that Ninja had a good reputation for making quality appliances and when I learned they made a coffee maker that gave you the choice of using ground coffee or Kcups I was intrigued. I do prefer ground coffee as it is much more affordable than the Keuring cups and ...well...I just feel ground coffee...especially the way I prefer it.....black ...tastes better. I was never quite satisfied with the Keuring coffee makers they were so ugly looking and the coffee they made....I guess I already went over that...but anyway as a single old guy who just wanted a single cup of coffee in the morning I was stuck with Keuring. I have had the Ninja Pods and Grounds coffee maker for about 6 months now and I have to say I am very pleased with the product...maybe even more than pleased. As I mentioned I am a black coffee drinker. This coffee maker does a superb job of making a good cup of coffee. I prefer using the "rich" mode as it brings out all the flavors of my coffee. Another thing. I like my coffee hot. I am scratching my head over reports from some other reviewers saying the Ninja does't come through with hot coffee. What? My coffee is always hot from my Ninja. Forgot to mention that my morning routiine also includes a cup of green tea and let me tell you this Ninja comes through with flying colors in brewing a an excellent cup of tea. All I have to do is place a tea bag in the basket put it on "rich" mode and it produces a wonderful cup of green tea. I have the Ninja Pods and Grounds coffee maker that comes in "stone" color that looks so nice on my kitchen counter. It takes up less space than the aforementioned Keuring and gets a lot of compliments. I think it really looks classy. I like the fact that you can adjust the little tray to accomodate any size cup and it will even accomodate my travel mug. Yay! One final note..regarding Kcups...I am not totally against them In fact I keep a few around when I am too lazy to measure out a ground coffee cup o' joe and also for when I have company and need faster coffee making in those situations. The Kcups work great on this machine. Don't know what to say except I hightly recommend this Ninja and think you'll really like it. I can make a K-pod cup, or I can make a cup with ground coffee. The water reservoir is large enough that I don't have to fill it with each cup. It's easy to insert a paper filter to brew ground coffee. The filter holder is easy to remove to dump the used paper filter. There is a space to stash the parts you aren't using (like the brew filter) so they don't get misplaced. The controls are located on the top and are intuitive (for me). The footprint is tiny so it doesn't take up a lot of counter space. It comes with a little tool to clean the nozzle if it gets plugged. It has easy instructions for demineralizing and doesn't require some extra solution to clean, just vinegar. Much better product than my last two brands of coffee makers. *by P***. on January 27, 2024* I've used a Keurig & a Cuisinart for years. Both were dependable, but the coffee they made (pods or grounds) was always just "ok", and never really hot enough. This Ninja makes a far richer & hotter cup, and is especially good with grounds, which is what I most often use. It comes out of the machine at around 195F, and is around 175F in your cup when finished. Just right for me. It doesn't have a selection for just 'hot water', but all you have to do is put the (empty) brew basket in and hit 'brew' (You can also make a decent cup of hot tea by placing a tea bag in the brew basket.) I use coffee and chicory, which is already stronger than 'regular' coffee. For my first 'test cup' I followed the recommended # of scoops (3), which is probably on point for regular coffee grounds like Folgers, MH, etc. My advice? Use only 1 good scoop with coffee and chicory! It's definitely all you need for a good, strong, cup - and that was using the 'classic' setting. The 'rich' setting was too strong with my coffee brand (Cafe du Monde), but that setting definitely works as advertised. With the other maker brands I had to fill the brew basket, and the coffee was never strong enough. Not so with this machine. I'll save $ by having to use about 2/3 less coffee per cup. I like having the convenience of being able to use pods, when I'm lazy or in a hurry, but I really wanted a machine that would make coffee from grounds that tasted like brewed coffee, and this Ninja does it. Not to mention the pods are so much more expensive. I have the model without the frother, so I can't comment about that feature. The appliance looks good, has a very slender footprint (long, but skinny) and it fits under my standard kitchen cabinets, even with the 'lid' fully open. I can even fill it using a pitcher without having to slide it out from under my cabinet, which is really nice. It's close, but it can easily be done. I've only had it a short time, so I can't speak to how well it'll hold up, if it'll start clogging, etc. But so far, it's the best coffee maker I've had of this type. It takes a bit longer to brew than my previous makers, but as a result the coffee tastes like real coffee.
