Review: I know that it has helped tremendously! - ....though I am sorry to say that it has not cured my MinPin's cataracts (diabetes induced). I can say that these OcluVet drops have helped my dog see better because he rarely runs smack into things like he used to---and I don't mean things that are in front of him that he is used to (i.e. knows where they usually are, like chairs or laundry hampers) but things that someone has recently put in his way. (like a new bag of dog food just brought into the house or a bag of garbage that I've taken out of the can but not taken outside yet) Things that are very close to him he still doesn't see well but his distance/peripheral vision is definitely better than it was before I started the drops. (as if the drops have shrunk the diameter of the cataracts and thinned the thickness of them somewhat) Also, the OcluVet drops may have kept the cataracts from getting worse (bigger and thicker), and thereby leaving him totally blind, as I have been very regimented in applying the drops 3x per day ever since I started using them (and this is my 2nd bottle purchased). They are very expensive for the amount you receive, but they do last a good while--over 2 months for a small dog that only needs 1 drop per eye, 3x a day (any more than one drop just squeezes right out, his eyes are so small) I have had no problems with a leaky bottle, as some people have reported---I just make sure the cap is on tightly and shake the bottle side to side rather than up and down. Also, no problems with too many drops coming out when I squeeze the bottle---I first position the dog, holding his eye open, then turn the bottle upside down over his eye, then very slowly and gently squeeze out one drop. I plan to continue using these drops either as long as I can afford them (and with their price and this economy, who knows how long that will be??) or until they don't seem to be working well enough any more to be worth their price. MEDI-VET ANIMAL HEALTH please take note: Please, please, please lower the price of these drops so that more people can try to save their pet's sight?? You'll sell more bottles in the long run and help so many more animals! Cataract sury costs were out of my reach, plus there is no guarantee that the surgery itself will not bring on other eye problems that could blind a dog, such as glaucoma. After much research I felt that OcluVet drops were my only chance to try and save at least SOME of my dog's sight and I'm glad that I took a chance on them. UPDATE: Still using these drops (June 2013) but now I only do them 1-2 times a day, depending on how Tracker's cataracts are looking that particular week---and they DO seem to get worse in a cyclic fashion. When I notice that the cataract seems thicker or bigger in diameter I use the drops twice a day until they appear to be diminishing, then go back to one drop a day. As I said, I don't believe these drops can/do "cure" a well established cataract but I KNOW they do help with Tracker's cataracts. He's still running at almost full speed in the yard and unless there are very deep shadows along with bright sunshine (the cataracts keep his pupil from reacting quickly enough to the differing light) or it's full dark, he never runs into things, so I know he still has vision. The new, lower price is a welcome surprise, I must say. :o) I'm ordering another bottle now..... UPDATE: Jan. 2014 - Still using these drops for my diabetic MinPin and he still has good enough vision that unless he's in near darkness or moving from VERY bright sunlight into deep shade he never runs into anything, even in unfamiliar territory. When my dog was diagnosed with diabetes the Vet warned me that if he started to develop cataracts (and most diabetic dogs do), that he would most likely be totally blind in one or both eyes within 6 months, with no recourse after that other than very expensive (and possibly dangerous) surgery. And even after the surgery there was no guarantee that the eye(s) wouldn't have to be removed due to the onset of glaucoma, which sometimes happens after a dog's eye has had surgery done on it for any reason. I'm so glad that I found these drops! Now, if they would only get a little cheaper. ;) UPDATE: April 24, 2014 - I just ordered another bottle of these drops a week or so ago since my dog's eyesight is still about the same as it was---definitely no worse. I attribute the fact that he hasn't gone completely blind by now solely to these drops. His vet is very surprised that he still has vision after having developed cataracts over 3 yrs ago.
Review: Worked for Two Dogs... - The first indication that my 10-year-old dog had problems with his eye was a case of bloodshot that would not clear up. A visit to the vet ophthalmologist revealed that he had a detached retina in fairly advanced stages. The doctor also confirmed that the cloudiness I also suspected was developing in both eyes was the early stages of cataracts. She cautioned that my dog's eye problems could lead to the development of glaucoma which could eventually progress to a point where my dog would need to have his eye removed! Since surgery was not an option, she prescribed some prednisolone eye drops for use in the long term for prevention of glaucoma. However, after researching online revealed to me that in some cases, long-term use of such steroidal eye drops could actually cause glaucoma, I set out in search of an alternative and found OcluVet. I've been administering one drop in each eye twice a day since September 2010. I have also been giving my dog oral vitamins aimed specifically at supporting ocular health. After about a month using both products, I noticed the cloudiness in his eyes clearing up. Indeed when my dog went in for a check-up with his veterinarian this May, the doctor readily noticed the improvement in my dog's eyes and enthusiastically urged me to continue what I am using. Having this confirmation from the vet that these drops at least seemed to help clear up his cataracts, I gave a bottle to my sister for her birthday so that she could try it on her dog who had just been diagnosed with early stages of cataracts. Within a couple of months, my sister's dog's eyes cleared up just using the OcluVet drops! These drops may not work for every dog, but in both my own and my sister's dogs' cases where these drops were administered consistently and right at the onset of the developing cataracts, it seems to have worked to totally clear the cataracts! The only cons about this product is that, like others here have already noted, the bottle dispenses much too liberally--in fact the product very easily leaks out of the tip--you don't even have to squeeze the bottle to get a drop. The first bottle I got also leaked when closed so you have to constantly make sure it is kept upright when stored. The leakage can be an incredible annoyance particularly since one bottle costs so much money which is another thing some may consider a "con." However, one bottle seems to have lasted us about 4 months and I, for one, am glad to have found a more natural, much cheaper, less invasive and less stressful alternative for my dog than cataract surgery! My dog, on the other hand, abhors getting his drops and I admit to being unmotivated sometimes to do it 2 times a day--but really, the results are worth it so that my boy can keep what's left of his eyesight and continue doing what he enjoys like going hiking and chasing lizards!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I do not like the bottle - very awkward. Does anyone know what ml one drop is?**
A: We are sorry that you feel the bottle is awkward. The bottle is designed to give 1 drop at a time as our recommended usage is based on drops and not mL's. If following instructions one would put 1 drop per eye 3 times per day for the initial dosage and then go back to 1 drop/eye per day for maintenance dosing. Is there a reason why you need to know the mL for a drop?

**Q: what is the expiration date on this product if i order today?**
A: I ordered mine almost 2 years ago and it’s expiration date is 21 Dec 2021

**Q: How long does one bottle last if you do one drop per eye per day?**
A: I disagree. It did work on my pit. It didn’t reverse the damage but it seemed to arrest the damage. I also used 4 drops a day and it seemed like a bottle lasted 1 1/2 months.
  My vet recommended this product.

**Q: Can i put it into the fridge? If I do, whether it is also effective?**
A: Yes
