Review: The missing piece I never knew I needed! - I am SO happy I took the plunge and decided to order this when our heat light stopped working a day after bringing home chicks. They weren’t even a week old yet, so I needed something fast and this was available for same day delivery. Our chicks were warm and happy in minutes. We had a very chirpy bantam in the brooder who I didn’t hear chirp again once this joined them! Her chirping is what alerted me to the problem, and her and her brooder buddies are now out in the coop with the big chickens because we got this! I had it on non-stop from the day we got it until they were 8 weeks old and it never gave me any issues. The chicks clearly felt safe under it. We used the included feather set, which I think helped them feel hidden & safe. The only thing I don’t love is that when they’re bigger they begin flying on top of it and it adjusts the height back down. Not a super huge issue, but I wish there was some way to secure it at the chosen height setting. Can’t wait for next year!! This really took the worry & questioning out of keeping our chicks safe & cozy. This is our 6th year raising chicks, so I really wish I’d bought this sooner! We had 4 chicks in the brooder, and could’ve probably fit 2-4 more comfortably for the first ~3-4 weeks. So I would recommend more than 1 if you’re expecting ~8 chicks!

I am SO happy I took the plunge and decided to order this when our heat light stopped working a day after bringing home chicks. They weren’t even a week old yet, so I needed something fast and this was available for same day delivery. Our chicks were warm and happy in minutes. I hatched 2 eggs after a fox took their momma. I was using a heatlamp but it needed to be so high and it still kept them too warm. The red heat lamps have always felt so dangerous to me. I've had them fall on chicks, melt the edge of their tote and just have general difficulty getting the lamps situated safely. The clamp on the heat lamps are a bad design, imo. But this brooder!? Ah-mazing. It doesn't get too warm and my babies seem to love it. It's super easy to put together and the quality feels like it will last a good long time. I imagine it could hold 10 or more chicks, depending on size. It fits into the bottom of a 50 gallon sterilite tote very well. It easily wipes down and can be sanitized. My chicks seem very comfortable and happy under the brooder. It functions as it should, theres no fuss over temps being too hot or too cool. I no longer worry about burning any buildings down or killing chicks inadvertently with a hot bulb that falls.
