Review: 12 Years of Successful Cordcutting with Mohu Leaf 50 - UPDATED 1/27/2026 - I've been using an amplified Mohu Leaf flat antenna for 12 years. I just bought another one this last week as the previous one (same brand and model) stopped working after all those years. I definitely got my money's worth! I had previously written a long review about this product, but that information should be enough for you to give this OTA antenna a try. I get 30 channels of free TV with the Mohu Leaf 50. I have it connected to a smart TV so that I'm able to access free live TV via the antenna and streaming services via my paid internet connection. (Apps like PlutoTV, Crackle, and YouTube.) This antenna is simple to setup - unbox it, connect to ANT IN on the back of your TV, connect the USB to a port on your TV to power it up whenever your TV comes on, or use the AC-USB adapter that comes with it. The amplified signal will be captured when the cable from the ANT IN is connected to the flat antenna and the antenna is hung up high (on a window or wall) and you scan for channels with your TV's autoscan feature, found in your Menu or settings. You may need to try out several placement options, but higher is best. I find that about 1-3" from where the ceiling meets the wall is the sweet spot. I also find that doing a channel scan when the weather is nice will yeild the best results. You may find channels pixelate or get glitchy in stormy weather, but a rescan usually takes care of the issue. If you live within 30-50 miles of your local TV station towers, this thin, flat, indoor antenna will work with your HDTV (which has a digital tuner inside of it) to collect all the channels available to you that are being broadcast for free over-the-air. It is multidirectional, so it will get channels coming from different angles, but tall buildings, trees, valleys, and mountains can affect the signal. Ideally, we'd all live in a flat place, without any obstructions to get all the channels perfectly, but few of us do. Be aware that weather, geography, and combinations of equipment will vary, but this antenna can work very well if you set it up properly, are patient with your placement to dial in available channels, and keep your expectations reasonable. Remember, you're getting FREE TV in high definition and only paying the reasonable price for the Mohu Leaf 50 antenna. It's a great deal for a durable (12 years worth for me...) and useful indoor antenna that just works. Just buy it. Review: Quite surprised by this little guy - This thing is paper thin. I'm truly amazed how far antenna technology has progressed in the last few years. I'll be comparing this to my old set of amplified rabbit ears/uhf loop combination antenna. With that one, I was able to pick up two digital stations (5 channels total). Occasionally, I could pick up 1-2 other stations (4 more channels). Being digital, the performance was good. Even a weak digital signal give a clear picture, even if it does drop out once in a while) I un-boxed the leaf, and set it up. Connected it to the TV, turned it on, and no channels. Moved it around a bit, and got everything my old antenna picked up. On two stations, the signal was dramatically increased, the other two only a little. Played with the location a bit, and didn't get a major difference, so I picked a good spot where it would be mostly out of sight and on an exterior wall. Surprisingly, when I had it in the window, I got no signal at all. I don't know if I have lead lined windows, but I thought that was weird. Now the true test -- scan for channels. There is one station I'm really hoping to pick up, but alas it is not meant to be. However, I'm in this weird location that's between two broadcast systems. Basically, there is the local OTA, and the repeater signals from Portland. Normally, to get the repeater signals, I'd have to have a pretty big outdoor antenna. I was surprised, the Leaf picked up not one, but three of these repeater signals. So, although I didn't get the local station I was hoping for, I did get the same network out of Portland. In total, I went form 5 reliable and 4 occasional channels to 12 (this includes all 9 of my original channels) reliable channels and 3 new almost occasional channels. I'm hoping that it's not a trick of the weather or time of night. Sometimes, I've noticed all that has an affect on reception. I'll update if that turns out to be the case. I will note: I try to keep my cords neat and tidy. So when I got everything set up, I tried to wind up the slack in the cable, and bundle it with twist ties. Doing so, I noticed a significant decline in signal across the board. The strong signals dipped, and weak signals dropped out. After unbundling the wire, everything was back to the way it was. So leave the cable loose.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 50 mile range Mohu Leaf

This little antenna is amazing. I am in the process of cutting the cord with Dish Network and a good OTA antenna was my first step before investing in a DVR or streaming services. I began the search with a 40 mile range 1Byone antenna with stand for $30. When it arrived it was pretty obvious by its construction and cheap thin cable that it was not a quality product and it definitely didn't work for me. I spent over an hour positioning and repositioning this antenna but the best I ever achieved was four channels. I knew that I could get 19 because with my amplified rabbit ears I did get that many. I then returned the 1Byone and ordered the 50 mile range Mohu Leaf, yes it was $70 but if it worked it would save so much money over time. As soon as I removed it from the box I could see the quality difference between the two antennas. The leaf has a thick cable similar to the HDMI cables. I was hopeful. I plugged this antenna in and as it laid on the back of my sofa I got crystal clear reception on one channel, a good sign. I decided to run a channel scan with the antenna lying on my couch and low and behold I was able to find 14 channels. I placed the antenna above the window on an outside wall and then brought in 24 channels. Antenna Web said I should get 18 from my location so I was beyond pleased. I live in a rural mountainous area in Northern Arizona mid way between Kingman and Bullhead City. All of the channels I received were in English so for others looking for Spanish language channels this might not deliver your preferred result but for me it was just what I wanted. I got the four major network channels and each of their sub channels plus PBS and it's sub channels. I also got an old movie channel, MeTV, My45 and the CW. I was hoping for ION but that was not available. The stations I did receive were in stunningly beautiful HD. These stations are what I was getting in my Basic package from Dish minus the sub channels with a bunch of shopping and religious channels thrown in which I never watched anyway. The $$ to cut the cord is high initially but in the long run will save thousands. I bought a Fire Tv box which I love because I am so tied to Prime content and shopping on Amazon. I added Hulu Plus so I can watch current TV shows I will miss because I don't currently have a DVR and I have Netflix. I think in the future once I have DVR (probably the Channel Master no subscription required) I will discontinue both Hulu Plus and Netflix. Prime Instant Video offers a huge selection of both movie and TV shows for free as a Prime member. Anyway, this antenna is awesome and I highly recommend it. UPDATE: 04/01/2015 I purchased a 2nd leaf for another TV (I didn't want to mess with a splitter). I was able to get all the same channels as with the first Mohu Leaf with the exception of CBS which was a bummer and I had to buy another longer cable because 16ft was not long enough this time for positioning the antenna for optimal signal strength. I still highly recommend this antenna but I can honestly say that the second antenna was by far more challenging than the first. I had to try over 50 position/channel scans before I could locate a satisfactory spot. Don't give up because 2 inches can make the difference between no channels and all available channels. I also added a Channel Master DVR and a Seagate 2TB Hard drive to my primary TV and it is awesome. I can now pause live TV and I can record two shows simultaneously while streaming Netflix or Amazon Prime. I can't tell any difference at all between this set up or paying for Dish every month. I love that I don't have to worry about price hikes, errors in billing or calling them ad nauseam trying to negotiate a lower monthly rate. I never have to ever again, yeah. I am a cord cutter and it is wonderful.
