Review: Far Cry in Big Sky Country - Far Cry 5 takes the series to the states in the big sky country of Montana. Where a cult has taken over the fictional Hope County and establish their own theocratic state with a cult leader, the man bun cult of personality Joseph Seed and his siblings. You play as a sheriff's deputy who in a series first is completely customizable. Task with arresting Joseph and shutting down the cult. In typical Far Cry fashion everything went wrong and now you are stuck in the county and must lead a local resistance to free the county and take out Joseph Seed. Far Cry 5 manages to be better than the recent entries in the series and is close to rivaling Far Cry 3. How? Let find out. Pros: The Graphics: I’ve said many times before in this generation but it keeps being true. Far Cry 5’s graphics are one of the best looking games in the market especially running this on 4K with a Pro. Rural Montana is the last place I expect the series to take place but Ubisoft really hit it out of the park with the graphics of the game looking down right photorealistic at times. All while having a locked 30 frames with hardly any drops even in the most hectic of scenes where explosions are going off everywhere and it’s none stop chaos. We come a Far Cry from the third game with unstable frames in the past generation of consoles. Ubisoft should be commend for pushing the envelope. Gameplay: Simply fun and enjoyable to blast around Montana taking down cultists called peggies. Gunplay is tight and responsive. The myriad of choice returns how to play guns blazing, stealth, and even with air support now. Just cathartic fun. A somewhat new addition is the ability to recruit npcs and bring them with you along the fight. I would I appreciate it more if most of them didn’t suck. AI is piss poor and pretty much one or two are only useful to you like Jess the huntress. Alternatively you can play Co-Op and take down missions. It works the same as Far Cry 4 and that you only progress on the host’s world. The open world has been refinited where you don’t open up and see a bunch of icons and you have to actually explore the world to find stuff. Gone are the towers you have to climb to defog the map now actual exploring is required. It’s still the same Ubisoft Open World style but it has been refined to better and these changes show I had more fun in this open world than other ubisoft games. Music: The ost is one of the best in the franchise with country and religious themes all mixed in to make a fitting soundtrack. Also sound is great and voice acting is serviceable. Not Political: What might a disappointment to some or a relief to others is the lack of political commentary in Far Cry 5 plot. At first glance the plot might be some commentary about Middle America as the story is about some religious zealots who uses a well armed militia to enslave a town. At the end it doesn’t make any commentary or critiques about middle america or even religion for that matter. It can be a disappointment to some who want to see some over all message. But for me and others who don’t want games to be politicalization it was nice to see that Far Cry 5 wasn’t some modern day political commentary about rural America. At the end of the day Far Cry 5 is anticult and that’s about it. So for those who are Pro Cult Far Cry 5 is not your game. Far Cry Arcade: A content creator that has massive potential for those who master it and put content regularly. At the time of this review it’s still barebones as the game has been out for a week only but in a couple months I can see great things coming from the content creator. If Far Cry 5 plays its cards right they can have an unless stream of content released for free by the community. Arcade a nice edition that adds more value to the game. Cons: Far Cry does so much right however it does stumble along the way with some bizzare choices. Silent Protagonist: The silent protagonist returns something that has not been done since Far Cry 2 and it's just bad. In the game you have these face to face cutscenes and your character is just an annoying mute. Silent Protagonist can be a good thing if implement right and Far Cry 5 doesn’t implement it right. You have all these characters talking to you and about you. No lines of dialogue to respond with either to justify the choice of a silent protagonist. I know the deputy can be male or female but your telling me a billion dollar company like ubisoft couldn’t hire two voice actors one male and one female to do the voice for the protagonist. A step back from the past three Far Cry games which had a talking protagonist. Story: Another weak point in Far Cry 5 is the story side missions can be fun and goofy. But the main story is mediocre at best. The cult are your clear cut bad guys. The Seeds try to seem sympathetic to you with the stories of their past having tragedy but it doesn’t really work with giving them character. The basic gist of the cult is their doomsday preppers and the end is near and they want to build the society after the fall of civilization. They also kill or kidnap people against them and at the end it just a generic evil organization with no real depth. Joseph Seed is no Vaas, no Pagan Min. He a step back from the evil but likeable villains of past Far Cry games and that’s a shame you see some potential but it poorly written. A majority of the characters are also forgettable which is disappointing as Far Cry is known for its colorful characters. Microtransactions: Useless and glorified cheat codes that you pay money for. Tolerable? Yes. No Battlefront 2 here but still should not be in the game it already has a $30 Season Pass how much more monetization does the game need? Still completely ignorable but should not be in the game as stated before there justed cheat codes and cosmetics that you pay for. That you can unlock by playing the game. So please don’t buy the microtransactions. Melee Combat: The thing that made me hate Far Cry Primal returns in all it’s floating glory. While shooting is nice melee is not. It feels floaty and unresponsive. Lucky you can ignore it mostly unlike Primal’s limiting weapons. Conclusion: Far Cry 5 is not a reinvention of the series it’s still the same formula but refined to make it better than it was before. The return back to gunplay from the spears, clubs, and axes from Far Cry Primal is just what the franchise needed. The setting of Montana although unexpected was a welcoming surprise and end up stealing the show along with it soundtrack. 2018 is shaping up to be a great year in gaming compared to the disappointment that was last year. Between Dragon Ball Z Fighters and the sleeper hit Kingdom Come Deliverance. Now Far Cry 5 easily one of my top 5 games of the year so far. I absolutely recommend Far Cry 5 it’s glorious cathartic fun.
Review: I Didn't like Far Cry 2, 3, 4 or Primal. Far Cry 5? AWESOME. Gameplay is flat out fun and doesn't get old. - To start off, I'm not writing a review to sell the game. Just giving my thoughts on what I really love about Far Cry 5. I'm a 41 year old dad of 2 boys that's been playing since I was 6 (original mario, duck hunt, atari, amiga, texas instruments, etc) Feel like I've seen alot of games and played alot of games. Although, I'm a casual gamer. I've had to become one mainly because I have a family, job and just don't have the time to invest in games anymore I don't get into stories in games. I purely play games for gameplay. ONLY gameplay. I could careless if 'Brenda' marries 'Steve' and has 'little Timmy' sacrificed to the sun Gods in order to save humanity. I could careless and think games have tipped WAY to far to that side of the fence that gameplay in the past 15 years has been watered down. I just want games that I can jump into and have a blast playing. Saying that, I've never been a big fan of Far Cry 2, 3, 4 or Primal. To me the Far Cry series kept getting further and further away from what made Far Cry so great from the original 'Far Cry 1'. Far Cry 1 was all about gameplay. I've played Far Cry 2, 3 & 4 and skipped Primal. I maxed out 2, quit 3 half way through and quit 4 half way through. SO I was hesitate to get Far Cry 5. Figured it's more of the same or worse. BUT something about Far Cry 5 really tugged at me. Maybe it's because it's based in the good ol' USA, feels like home and feels real. MAN, am I glad I pulled the trigger and bought this game. I've been gaming for 35 years and have played alot of open world shooters. It's been awhile since I've had this much fun playing a game for a few hours on end. My son watched me play last night and we laughed so hard at some of the things you can conjure up in this game. Just flat out fun gameplay. I'm just flat out excited to have a game that feels so much fun to play and it wants you to play it that way. Just have fun and go at your own pace. There is something about this game that absolutely reminds me of Far Cry 1 the original. It honestly feels like it went back to it's roots in alot of ways. I don't hear alot of people comparing it to Far Cry 1 but I'm pretty sure it's because they never played it OR the majority of the people reviewing this game are to young to even know a Far Cry 1 exists. Anyone that complains about this game is probably purely focused on story or anything other than the actual gameplay itself. Which just boggles my mind over the past 15 years... It's about gameplay right? Why story? Frickin watch a movie or tv show. I want a game for gameplay and Far Cry 5 gave me that. Havin' a blast and hope you do to! See you in the Arcade... That's where the real crazy good times are going to blow up!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I've never played a far cry game, so i wouldn't know. are the far cry games worth getting into?**
A: I'd say try Far Cry 4 first which is i believe $25 on Amazon right now. Far Cry 4 was my first FC game and i absolutely loved it. The story, the game play, the graphics. Everything. I will be buying FC5 very soon.

**Q: Do I need to play the other games to understand the story?**
A: you do not need to because they are all their own stories, but they are some awesome games that you can get for cheap right now!!

**Q: Does this include preorder bonuses?**
A: Buyer beware- Amazon advertised the preoder bonuses for Destiny 2 on the page and then didn't send out the codes stating it wasn't part of the purchase, despite screenshots showing they advertised it. They eventually released it a week later after it was all obsolete. I realize this is a different developer, but Amazon does have that snafu on another major game release. Honestly, I'd buy the game here for the 20% prime discount. If useless skins are valuable to you...let's just say I'd hate for them to bait and switch again.

**Q: Can I give the digital code to a friend in Texas to use**
A: You can buy the digital version of the game and do that. You can buy the physical game and have it shipped to your friend.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent game
*by E***E on July 14, 2018*

This is refreshing to have such a good game that doesn't require online access. So far we find no fault with it, technically or artistically. Certainly one of the best gaming experiences ever. It builds further mechanics that were very good in Far Cry 4, and leaves behind some that were irritating. The story is excellent, and many games lose it there. This one delivers. I always like earlier Far Cry games, prior to 4, but they've upped their game significantly in these two with 5 being the pinnacle. I have to say that one thing that makes this standout so much in the console gaming world, is that it's not tied to an internet connection and a continuous feel of trying to sell you something, which I think destroys immersion (along with having to game with strangers on the net). In this game, it's you and the story, and you are part of it. Weapons are excellent along with the variety of vehicle types. I'm not much on flying games, but the flying portion is straightforward. It also shares something I liked about CoD, none of the bosses are magical, it's realistic in that. It can be played like Fallout or Just Cause. Update: Replay is probably better than Fallout. We have kept this game going over and over, figuring out new ways to defeat the bosses while still playing all the content. The hardest difficulty is pretty easy if you play through a few times and build your money and weapons. Experienced gamers probably can handle the hard mode first play through. Warning, all those folks out there who don't get the story, drive sometimes and listen to the radio station. The story is clear and well done, but you do have to listen to the news broadcasts to understand what is going on in the bigger picture world the story takes place in. That is a very realistic aspect since in the real world, if you don't listen to what goes on in your little part of the world, big events will take you by surprise.
