Review: Like Buttah! - This is possibly the best finishing product I've ever used. I had to get four unfinished chairs that were mis-matched woods to match a dark walnut table. After several coats of Minwax (both spray and hand applied) I still could not get them dark enough. This product not only darkened them and evened out the tone, it helped them all match each other with various shades of wood underneath. Lots of open working time and easy to remove if you've gone too dark. After 24 hours, totally cured and ready for wax. A dream product to use, couldn't be happier.

I did a TON of research because I wanted just the right tone and I stumbled upon the Spanish Oak gel stain. The color is great and amazingly transforms the wood to look like it came with the stain (shows the grain) instead of just looking painted which I REALLY didn’t want. It’s great because it’s only taking one coat for the perfect tone I was looking for. I would highly recommend if you want the natural wood look and not just a cover up. It truly takes away the orange tone of the oak cabinets that I didn’t want.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this gel go directly over existing stain? Or does it need to be sanded and primed?**
A: I did a quick coat over existing, and it came out ok.  I was just trying to touch up edges.  The can suggest roughing up the surface.  Don’t necessarily have to completely sand and prime.  The gel is super easy to work with.

**Q: Can you thin this stain?**
A: Don’t know why you would want to thin this. It wipes on beautifully and if you want to lighten the color rub it with mineral spirits. Darkness of stain is different on different wood.  It’s a very dark stain, test on wood first to check darkness.

**Q: How much square footage does a pint cover? I have a table that is 110" x 42". Is a pint enough to cover it top and bottom?**
A: Yes. You'll have some left over. Use a cheap wall washing sponge cut up to about 2" x 3" to apply. Dip sponge lightly into gel and spread. Apply 2nd coat after first dries if you want it darker. Thin thin coats.

**Q: If I have a table that has minwax dark walnut stain, will this dark walnut gel match (minwax does not have dark walnut gel)?**
A: Matching stains is an art. Best bet is to find a good paint store (not big box store) Take the whole table if you can or something that will come off of it

My painter recommended Old Masters Stain as having the best depth of color (pigment) for a small project that have to stain new oak corbels, and the results exceeded my expectations. The walnut color was beautiful even after one coat. This is the first time that I used a gel product, and it was so easy to work with. No splashing when stirring or applying the stain. A great find.
