It supports healthy root development without the need for laterite or chemical treatments, maintaining stable pH levels. Its natural dark tone enhances aquascape aesthetics and can be used alone or mixed with other gravels. Pre-washed but requires rinsing to remove dust, it provides a stable, nutrient-rich foundation for thriving aquatic plants. ## Description Product Description Flourite dark is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any aquarium environment. Flourite dark is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as Laterite are not necessary. Flourite dark is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water. Although it is pre-washed, because Flourite® Dark is a natural product, it will become dusty in transit and require thorough rinsing before use to remove any residual dust ( rinse until water runs clear through substrate). When adding water to aquarium, fill slowly to avoid disturbing Flourite® Dark substrate bed. Place a bowl in the aquarium and add water directly to the bowl, allowing water to overflow softly on to the gravel bed. Initial cloudiness is normal. To remove cloudiness, use mechanical filtration (such as filter floss). Use Clarity™ to accelerate clearing. Directions 1. Rinse the Flourite Dark in a bag if you have the 3.5 kg size. For other sizes, rinse it separately before use. 2. Mix Flourite Dark with other gravels if desired, or use it alone as an integral substrate bed. 3. No gravel modifiers such as laterite are needed. ## Features - No laterite needed - Perfect for planted aquariums - May be mixed with other gravels - The Premium Substrate For the Planted Aquarium ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Allergen Information | Gluten Free | | Asin | B001NTFXHW | | Best Sellers Rank | 213,089 in Pet Supplies (See Top 100 in Pet Supplies) 367 in Aquarium Gravel | | Brand Name | Seachem | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars (1,904) 4.4 out of 5 stars | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00000116373500 | | Item Form | Granules | | Item Type Name | Aquarium Substrate | | Item Weight | 7 Kilograms | | Liquid Volume | 15.4 Litres | | Manufacturer | Seachem Laboratories, Inc. | | Manufacturer Part Number | 3735 | | Model Number | 3735 | | Number Of Items | 1 | | Number Of Packs | 1 | | Pet Type | Fish | | Target Species | Fish | | Unit Count | 7000.0 gram | | Upc | 000116373500 | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Seachem - **Item form:** Granules - **Item weight:** 7 Kilograms - **Liquid volume:** 15.4 Litres - **Number of Packs:** 1 ## Images ![Seachem Flourite Dark, 7 kg / 15.4 lbs - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81DMVHNk3LL.jpg) ![Seachem Flourite Dark, 7 kg / 15.4 lbs - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/919HN3VH1PL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Size Name** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: How does it taste?** A: I haven't tasted it myself but my plants seem to really like it. **Q: How do you clean this stuff on a regular basis? I read some where not to use the handheld tube vacuum. ??** A: Tube vacuum should work fine. I’d imagine whom ever wrote that hadn’t rinsed it very well and kicked up a ton of sediment. It’s really just chips of clay, nothing that should interfere with a vac any more than a gravel would! **Q: Will my plants live with only this substrate?** A: I have only this substrate in my 29 gallon and it is sufficient to grow plants. I recommend periodically supplementing with Flourish in order to maximize plant growth, but a decent group of fish will provide enough nutrients for decent plant growth. **Q: the description for this item reads 7k / 15.4 lbs but the item pictured reads half that 3.5k / 7.7 lbs; which is correct for the item?** A: The container I received had 15.4 lbs., someone made an error. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wish I bought this in the first place. *by on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 26 April 2019* I started out with sand - terrible mistake: it was so light that every bit of poo stood out; my ADF ingested grains as he tried to eat; and my plants weren’t thriving. I rinsed the Flourite for about 10 minutes and added them to my tank - it's 60l and this bag was sufficient. Everything immediately looked so much better. It’s a great chocolate color. Frog eating happily. Hopefully plants will thrive. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ funzionano *by on Reviewed in Italy 21 June 2019* ottimo, bella granulometria ed un bel colore ,purtroppo molto polveroso anche dopo un buon prelavaggio ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ . *by on Reviewed in Spain 2 September 2025* Gran calidad sin enturbiar agua ## Frequently Bought Together - Flourite Dark, 7 kg / 15.4 lbs - Fluval 12695 Plant and Shrimp Stratum for Freshwater Fish Tanks, 17.6 lbs. – Aquarium Substrate for Strong Plant Growth, Supports Neutral to Slightly Acidic pH - Seachem Flourish Tabs Growth Supplement - Aquatic Plant Stimulant 40 ct --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.br/products/54090743-seachem-flourite-dark-7-kg-15-4-lbs](https://www.desertcart.com.br/products/54090743-seachem-flourite-dark-7-kg-15-4-lbs) --- *Product available on Desertcart Brazil* *Store origin: BR* *Last updated: 2026-10-06*
