Not sure how the manufacturers have managed it but it really is smear free, just a quick wipe now and then is all it needs. The bin liners are on the pricey side but they are very strong, no tearing when pulling out of bin. Yes, it is expensive but I think it's worth every penny. It's really well , made, capacious, fits a narrow opening, doesn't seem to emit nasty smells, the bags are easy to change, the steel surface just does not mark and, my favourite bit, the graceful slow closing lid. And there's a very long guarantee. We've just had a new kitchen and the bin really lives up to its stylish new surroundings.
