The angle of the plastic slot will grind one edge. For a knife you don’t need the middle slot obviously. That being said I wouldn’t use these on expensive chefs knives, it wouldn’t replace a wet stone, but for ordinary kitchen veg knifes it would be Ok, it’s smoother and more controllable than a standard knife sharpener I brought from Lakeland. **Q: Would you recommend this for sharpening the scissors on a Leatherman Micra?** A: Hi Gordon, Because of the design of this item I think it would sharpen any small scissors.
