Review: Excellent purchase, highly recommended for cutting perspex and similar plastics - I recently bought some perspex sheeting for various projects around the house. I have not worked with perspex before so I searched online for the recommended ways to cut it. I had been thinking of using a jig-saw, but uncertain how clean or straight a line I could achieve. I saw this and ordered one. I have used it to cut sheets of thicknesses from 2mm to 5mm, and had no trouble at all. I scribe a deep groove and "snap" off the waste over the edge of a table or worktop. So far I have 100% success. It is easy to scribe repeatedly over the same line to achive the depth of groove that you want. I suppose I might have been able to achieve similar results with a stanley knife or similar modelling knife and a brand-new blade, but I am not sure. This scriber is easy to hold firmly - not too big or too small, and I find it sits comfortably in the hand. The blade slides out and back in again, and is locked in place with a simple screw mechanism, so no chance of it moving while it is being used (unlike some Stanley knives and modelling knives). The blade is thin, but rigid, and nice and sharp. The size and shape of the blade mean that it is a very effective cutter and does not flex as you use it - this is very important for scribing lines and repeating the same line. There are two spare blades safely stored in the handle, and held in place so that they do noit rattle around and dull their edge.
Review: Excellent tool - This tool is great for scribing plastic sheet and for doing panel lines on any model. I've used it loads and you get spare blades. It us very well made and well worth having.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does anyone know how this scriber compares to the bare metal foil scriber? i just want to go over the existing panel lines on plastic model cars.**
A: the bare metal scriber has a much smaller and finer tip, ideal for scribing body lines or modifying doors/trunks, the plastic scriber is more for precise, smooth cutting out the parts from the plastic.

**Q: What is this used for in rgds to gunpla?**
A: I use it to re-scribe existing panel lines for emphasis or to add panel lines when customizing.

**Q: How good is this scriber for cutting up styrene sheets?**
A: What is the thickness of the sheet? It’s not made to cut but it will after enough pulls/strokes/swipes in the same direction.

**Q: are the blades 2mm or bigger or smaller? (how big are the blades?)**
A: Total blade thickness is 0.56mm but the blade cuts a V-shape trench, so the lines you cut will be smaller. Depends on how hard you press and how many passes you make. For reference, the standard mr line chisel blade is .3mm and is about the width of bandai's panel lines.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not a great panel line maker
*by C***G on 13 February 2024*

The knife is of good quality. Its well made, quite tough and robust. The blade is a good width, not prone to bending and should last. The retracting mechanism is manual and the lock is manual also, but all works perfectly and smoothly. There is nifty storage in the handle for spare blades and this knife comes with one spare blade in the handle. I guess it depends on what you want it for as to whether it is any good. For me, I got this on recommendation that it would score (and remove) a thin groove of plastic from plastic model kits and thereby inscribe panel lines in my models. What this does can be replicated by a simple box knife or Stanley knife. It effectively just cuts a line in the styrene leaving a raised ridge - not what I wanted. If you are after something to make these marks or cut break lines in plastic sheets then a Stanley knife is just as good and probably easier to wield with force. That said, this is great for gouging out any filler that I leave in existing panel lines. The shape of the blade cleans out the existing line perfectly. As such, it is still a useful tool for me and is making light work of the hundreds of lines to clean up.
